AMAZING!! The atmosphere is so calming and relaxing. Beautiful artwork on the walls and instrumental music. The food was delicious and the staff were super helpful in my decision of what to get. They gave great feedback on the dishes I was interested in and the choices we went with did NOT disappoint.

The vegan "lox" bagel was fantastic, and I'm not even vegan. Cute spot with a few tables inside and a few more outside. A large variety of pastries, tea and coffee drinks makes this a good spot for breakfast or lunch if you're in the area.

Looking for a quick stop for a light lunch, my husband and I stopped in and tried the Croissant Sandwich, which features a JUST Egg patty, smoky seitan sausage, tomatoes, and Chao cheese ($12). They had some delicious GF Muffins for sale as well, so we also ordered an Ube Muffin. Our light lunch ended up being heavier than expected, but everything was tasty! We chose to sit inside where there are a half dozen or so tables, but it can feel a little tight when people are standing in line to order. Love that the menu is all vegan - would definitely return.

Staying with some friends who happen to be vegan, I asked them to take me to some of their go-to restaurants around Chicago. Fancy Plants Café was not at the top of their list and after our experience, I can understand. On a Sunday, around 10:00am, three of us walked into the Fancy Plants Café. We ended up parking on the street a few blocks over and walking here. There were a few tables set up outside and there were some tables inside, but the inside this café is pretty small, intimate. We grabbed a table inside but I felt like we were sitting in the way of the counter where we ordered. There were only two women working behind the counter, who seemed friendly, but were fairly quiet, shy. We placed our order and sat down and waited a bit for our drinks to come out. The food took quite a bit of time, I would estimate about 20 minutes or so, and it did not all come out at the same time, so two of us were eating while the third was waiting on both their drink and food. Eventually their food was ready, but they completely forgot their drink because they did not take our order correctly. Our third ended up having to pay for their mistake, literally. That put me off a bit, I understand this is a small business, but they made the mistake and should not have charged us for that, but it is what it is. For breakfast, I ordered a breakfast sandwich, with a slice of banana walnut bread, and a cup of their drip coffee with oat milk. The breakfast sandwich is JUST egg, vegan cheese, smoky seitan "bacon" on an English muffin. The sandwich was good but nothing to really rave about, a bit on the small side, but that is reflected in the price. The banana walnut bread slice was a nice, slightly sweet complement. The drip coffee was fine as well, nothing extraordinary. The prices overall seemed fair for what I ordered. Overall, Fancy Plants Café is an okay vegan breakfast/lunch spot. The customer service left a bit to be desired, but the drink and food were pretty good. Personally, I would not choose to come back but if this were the only option available, I would be fine with it.

Fancy Plants Cafe has all that plus an outdoor patio and free wifi. Great spot to wfh ‍ Their menu is 100% vegan with lots of pastry options to choose from. I tried the breakfast burrito and it's massive, stuffed with roasted potatoes, tofu scramble, tomatoes, and black beans. Kinda salty but overall a great choice. Loved the lavender vanilla latte, but they do charge extra for oat milk!

Really cute vegan cafe in Lakeview! They have a nice, small patio space that is surrounded by flowers in the summertime. I got a latte with turmeric which was really good. I also got a croissant sandwich which I personally wasn't a big fan of. Given that it was all plant-based, I did not like the dryness and texture of everything. I will definitely stop by for coffee again though!

Fancy Plants is a little cafe tucked away off of Broadway. Since it's not on the main street, you might miss it as you walk by, but they often put a sign out to point you in the right direction. They have a small outdoor patio, which is cute and fairly quiet since it's not on a main road. This cafe is 100% vegan! Everything is vegan! They have lots of pastries and breakfast sandwiches. They also had a good selection of tea which I appreciated and some fun sounding lattes. I had the lemon and blackberry cookies but I will definitely be coming back to try their carrot lox or the quiche. The cafe is small and quiet, the perfect place to take a lunch break or work remotely.

Don't normally love cherry flavor anything... but this was good. Wasn't overpowering and very foamy despite using oat milk. Was in the neighborhood intending to go to another coffee shop but saw a side walk sign and decided to check it out. Good marketing on their part.

Breakfast is a hard time to get anything vegan, so a place like this is a life saver for those looking to get away from meat. Fancy Plants is a place to get the day started. It's also good at lunch too. Hours are kind of limited, which is the only bad thing about it. The place is kind of small but has quite a lot. After waking up early, I stopped in at breakfast. It's rare to find a place with so many vegan breakfast choices. This location is a lot smaller than the full service bar and restaurant. It's better to go here in the morning. The breakfast options are better and there's lots of these. A few are good prices. Had the simply named Breakfast Sandwich. It's $5, which is a good value. Basically it's like a Sausage McMuffin. This is an English muffin with Just Egg, vegan cheese, and seitan. Cool place to go at breakfast. It's also open at lunch. The whole menu is friendly for vegans and vegetarians.

I've been a regular at Fancy Plants basically ever since they've opened their doors. If you live in Chicago and you're looking for a cozy spot with consistently good vegan food, good wi-fi and friendly staff - look no further than this gem on Briar St. I sincerely miss their kitchen where they served dinners, but they still do occasional pop-ups run by their brilliant head chef. I have patronized this business for a long time and will continue to do so!

I decided to go here with some friends for brunch on a Saturday. It wasn't too busy as we could move two empty tables together for more room to sit. The inside was smaller than I thought, though. They can sit 12-15 people indoors, and there are a few patio tables as well. The atmosphere was very cozy, with plants (presumably real) scattered about and hanging artwork (presumably for sale) decorating the walls. I loved the small vases of fresh flowers that decorated each table. The menu online doesn't quite match the menu available in person, as they do not serve soup despite there being a soup of the day online. The service was very friendly, and we picked up our food up at the counter after waiting a short while! I got the breakfast sandwich with added veggies (for an extra dollar) and highly highly recommend those veggies. There are bottles of condiments (ketchup, mustard, hot sauce, etc.) available in one corner for customers to use, and I did feel the need to add some hot sauce to my breakfast sandwich. It came out very warm and overall tasty but lacked its own sauce for richness. As far as size goes, it was smaller than your average sandwich but also quite tall. To wash things down, I opted for a sweetened iced matcha. There is a little station with mason jars and a pitcher to fill water. The matcha was good!

What a cute little gem! There is limited seating, but such relaxing vibes in the shop itself. As a vegan café it had plenty of great options that will appeal to everyone. Coffee drinks come with choice of soy or oat. Highly recommend the maple citrus crème brûlée drink! The service was prompt, polite and kind.

Went for a coffee with a gf and tried the Maple Citrus Crème Brûlée latte (with soy milk); she got the London Fog (with oat milk). I tried and enjoyed both. Love that they were served in cute mugs like you'd use at home. Small inside but cozy feel. Staff was very friendly. Will go back for food another time.

The broccoli was fabulous- super crispy with a flavourful peanut sauce. It was definitely the highlight of our meal. The volcano roll was a mountain of salty mayonaisse heaped on top of relatively good sushi. The overall effect was not altogether pleasant. The avocado beetroot tartare was quite good but nothing exceptional. The steamed boy choy was done very well, with a lovely soy ginger sesame sauce that paired beautifully with it. The chilli crab noodles were near inedible: very little flavour and basically floating in oil. The brownie and ice cream were good. Service was decent, and the food came out super fast. We sat outside, and enjoyed people-watching more than the meal itself. In sum, we will not return. I am vegetarian, and was super excited about going to an all-vegan sushi place, but was left quite disappointed. My pescatarian dining partner was also similarly unimpressed.

My main grudge on this night was the pour of sparkling wine (brut). Champagne flutes are typically six ounces. A standard pour of wine is five ounces. That means a pour of sparkling wine should stop about 1 inch from the rim of the glass*. Not so this time. I thought the bartender had emptied the bottle and was going to continue his pour with a new bottle, but no - that was not the case (I was seated at the bar.) I had gotten only about 3 out of 5 ounces of a $16 glass of wine. Not cool since every patron is charged an automatic 20% hospitality surcharge per check. (It looked more like a pour for a toast at a wedding!) Other than this major lapse in bartending etiquette - and yes, I considered saying something at the time but did not, hence, this review - my meal was fine (with the exception of the onion tart - not what I expected an onion tart to be: go with the crab cake!). *Note: I have worked part-time in F&B from 1994 to 2024 in all manner of restaurants/catering/country clubs, etc., including as a BASSET certified bartender, so I know what a pour of wine should be (and look like) in a standard champagne flute!
