This restaurant was very strange. We tried this out as a group celebrating a birthday last week,…read morevery excited to try it. The decor is fairly upscale, and they had live music, which was nice but made it hard to talk or hear the waitress. I really, really wanted to give this 5 stars, because it has the potential to be so damn good. The prices were very reasonable. The portions were mid-sized, reasonable for the price. Every bit of seafood was cooked to perfection - I had calamari and the seafood paella, and each bite of meat was succulent and tender. But the first thing that was lacking, and weirdly so, was appropriate seasoning. Like I said, the calamari meat was cooked to perfection - but in a heavy, bready, North American style coating with sauce that was very much like ranch. More appropriate for mozzarella or zucchini sticks. The seafood in the paella was succulent, and the rice was amazing - but the overwhelming flavour was *salt*. So much so that the taste of the seafood was overpowered. In addition, the service was much less than stellar. The place was almost empty, yet it took us almost an hour to get water. The one waitress greeted a friend who came in with a hug and loud banter, but ignored us for a long time and even was annoyed to have to serve us. Some people got their mains while others hadn't even gotten their starters yet, so some people were still eating far after others had finished and even had to leave. Every star was for the seafood. This restaurant has potential but doesn't live up to what it could be.

I was in Kanata and after searching for restaurants nearby, found out that there was a PiRho Grill…read moreon Hazeldean Road. I've been wanting to try PiRho Grill for the longest time. I am a sucker for create your own bowls filled with veggies and sauces. I looked over the menu beforehand and had an idea of what I wanted. My husband was not too familiar with this place, so he just followed my lead. We were both greeted right away when we walked into the very clean restaurant. Service was friendly, and the staff was super patient and walked us through everything. We both settled on the grain bowl. I topped mine with tzaziki, spicy harissa, shredded lettuce, red cabbage, red beet quinoa, pickled peppers, pickled onion and tomato and cucumbers. I got the vegan option for protein which is the zucchini fritters, and topped it all off with lemon tahini thyme dressing. I also got a side pita and a vegan granola ball for the kid. I found the bowl OK. It was very pretty, but I am not sure if I did my best creating it. It was missing some acidity and nothing really stood out. I would skip the spicy harissa next time as I was not a fan of it. I also did not like the zucchini fritters, which I was so looking forward to trying. On a positive note, the red beet quinoa was amazing. My hubby had the same thoughts about his bowl and was not wow'd. The star of the show was that pita. It was fresh and chewy. I think next time I go, I will try out a wrap.

I still remember when I discovered the original PiRho Grill down in Barrhaven 4 years ago. I…read moreabsolutely loved it. The whole "salad/grain bowl movement" was new to Ottawa and the Mediterranean flair of PiRho Grill reeled me in. I spoke with Tom, one of the owners, and even back then he was thinking of opening up multiple locations. I urged him to open one in Westboro, but it hasn't happened yet (Tom, if you're reading this, please think about it, the only salad place I have in my 'hood is Freshii, of which I am not a fan. I don't like tasteless and spongy chicken, please help me out! Lol). Anyway, they opened up the location downtown on Elgin next, then this one on Hazeldean in Kanata. Maybe it's because the Barrhaven location was where I had my first taste of PiRho Grill and thus has a special place in my heart, but I found the food not as flavourful at this Kanata location. It's still really good, and in my opinion so much better than the national chains of salad places, just not as good as the Barrhaven location ;) I had the salad bowl ($12.25) and chose a mix of all the greens. For my dips I got the eggplant one and the red pepper hummus. For my protein I got half chicken and half baked zucchini cakes (so I got 1 cake). For toppings I got cucumber and tomato salad, roasted beet quinoa, red cabbage and crumbled feta. I was really tempted to get the pita crisps because they are really good, but I'm trying to limit my carbs and reduce my gluten intake, albeit to the chagrin of my taste buds. For the dressing, I got it on the side and I got the yogurt dill, which tastes a little like tzatziki. Service was friendly and efficient. During this Covid-19 Pandemic staff were wearing masks. We were in Stage 3 of re-openings so indoor dining was allowed and their indoor dining space was open. They also have patio seating. I took my food to go and did my favourite thing: ate in my car! Yep, the secret's out, I love eating alone in my car parked in a parking lot or on the street. I did this long before the Pandemic, I just appear less weird doing it now! If I really like ya, I'll invite you to eat in my car with me, but this invitation has been extended to very few people (and now with the Pandemic even less people, lol). Alright, enough about me and my idiosyncrasies, back to the restaurant... So the restaurant is in a plaza with lots of free parking. It's in the same plaza as Chocolats Favoris, Starbucks, and Farm Boy. Definitely worth checking out if you're in Kanata and like salad or grain bowls. They have wraps as well!

Greek on Wheels is a chain that sells takeout Greek food. This location is so fast. I definitely…read morerecommend it if you are hungry and want food NOW! Lol. It literally took them like 3 minutes to make my food, haha. I ordered on UberEats and got a notification that Greek on Wheels is preparing my order and then immediately after got a notification that my order was complete. What?!? I usually get a notification that my food is ready for pickup. What happened to that step? Anyway, I was literally 2 minutes away parked in another strip mall as I just finished running errands there, so I drove over. And my food was ready waiting for me. I couldn't believe it. These guys are lightening fast! Although I still think it's weird that they "completed" my UberEats order. Usually the customer "completes" the order after pick up. Anyway, I got my food and it was tasty, so I was happy, haha. I got 2 Gyro Sandwiches. UberEats was having BOGO on them, so it only cost me $10.99 for both. They were stuffed with gyro meat and also had tomatoes, onions and tzatziki. The pita was soft and fresh, the meat was tasty and plentiful. Vegetables were fresh. A very solid gyro sandwich for fast food. Service was friendly and very efficient. Free parking in the strip mall where the restaurant is.

The salad was fresh and green. The Tziziki and pitas were also fresh and delicious. Delivery was quick. We were all thrilled with the outcome of our first time ordering from GREEK ON WHEELS. Unfortunately, we ordered from THE HAPPY GREEK earlier on Christmas Eve and went to pick it up only to see they were closed. We had placed our order, received a confirmation, debited my credit card, and went to pick it up at the confirmed time, only to see a CLOSED sign on the door. They had stolen our money. What a scam. So we quickly had to find an alternative. AND WE ARE FORTUNATE ENOUGH THAT WE CHOSE THE RIGHT PLACE. THANK YOU FOR SAVING OUR CHRISTMAS EVE DINNER. You made it perfect.

TLDR: Tasty shawarma. Very generous with the meat. The beef was lean and tender. Will return…read more So this second location of Ottawa Shawarma (the original location is on Greenbank) recently opened up where Princess Shawarma used to be. They opened up April/May 2024. Ottawa is full of shawarma places so I wasn't particularly in a hurry to check it out, but we were in the area and UberEats was having a BOGO deal: small beef shawarma sandwich for $9.25. So I figured why not? I ordered on the app for pickup. It was ready in about 20 minutes. I asked for no onions, no hot peppers and light on the garlic sauce and they accommodated. The sandwich had lettuce, tomato, pickles, turnips, hummus, garlic sauce, tahini and lots of lean and tender beef. It was delicious. The pita was nicely grilled and was crispy on the outside. The sandwich was a bit messy to eat and fell apart a bit, so I'm glad we didn't eat it in the car, lol. Service was courteous. We took our sandwiches to go, but there's seating if you want to dine in. The decor is simple and more utilitarian, typical of most shawarma joints. Free parking available on site. Parking is shared with other businesses along the strip. (83)

I ordered the small beef ($8.49) along with a medium tabouleh salad ($10.99) as we weren't that hungry, planned to take the sandwiches home and share the salad. Experience: Kind of like a midle-eastern Harvey's where you get to choose from a large array what you prefer on your sandwich/platter. They even asked us if we'd like extra pickles to take along. Any orders to go come with napkins and plastic cutlery. My wife remarked on the ample portions of chicken and beef going into the toasted and rolled pita bread sandwiches. She was right, lots of eating in those sandwiches and the tabouleh salad had that nice lemony, tart taste. Next time will try two of their platters. Sell packages of baklava deserts on a small stand across for ordering/cooking stations. Staff: Very friendly Atmosphere: Modern, tasteful, clean. Seats 24 Total Bill inc tax $33

They also have an Everyday Special which is also $10.99 and is Chicken Shawarma on rice with salad. They call it "Medium Chicken on the Rocks with salad." "On the Rocks" for them means on rice. They also have "On the Stix" which is on French Fries. I debated between getting the Monday Special (Beef Kofta on rice with salad) or the Everyday Special. I ended up going with the latter. I asked for the salad dressing on the side and for them to go easy on the sauce because I don't like it too saucy. They accommodated and the amount of sauce was just right for me. Actually, I initially asked for the sauce on the side so I could control the amount of sauce and they said there was an extra charge for sauce on the side, so that's when I said, nevermind, just go light on the sauce, lol. The chicken was plentiful, tender and moist. I liked that it wasn't gristley or fatty. The rice was a bit on the dry side, but I didn't mind that. It wasn't greasy, which I appreciated. The salad was fresh and consisted of iceberg lettuce (not my favourite, but at least it was crunchy), cucumbers, tomatoes and green peppers. I ended up not using any of the salad dressing, so I'll just say no dressing next time. Portion size was good. I loved that it came in a cardboard box and not styrofoam. I chose the non-spicy option, but they have mild, medium, hot and extra hot, which refers to the amount of hot sauce they drizzle on top. It was loud in there, so it was a bit difficult for the cashier to hear me and for me to hear her. Plus we're in the middle of the Covid-19 Pandemic, so we were both wearing masks and there was plexiglass separating us which affects sound. The loud noise is like the grill and other sounds coming from their kitchen equipment (?) This location is in College Square, so lots of free parking in the plaza.
