I always get the grain bowl not today I did the mix of rice and salade. I took the pirho salad has a nice mix of everything. The portion of rice was very small (with the price of salade not made haha). Funky feta dip, chicken, olive, cucumber+tomato, feta, pickled onion. Finished with creamy dill. Just like I said in my first review from years ago, I'm really not a salad kinda girl, but PiRho is one place that I will always go back to for a good, hearty salad. I feel like it's the only place I can consistently go to get a salad. They have fresh ingredients, make their meats in house, and they're always generous with their portions. They no longer have unlimited toppings (now maximum of 6), but that doesn't bother me in the least, especially since they have a wider variety of toppings now. I chose a PiRho greens bowl because I like the texture. It includes baby spinach, organic arugula, chopped romaine, shredded kale, and shredded Brussels sprouts. I chose funky feta and roasted red pepper hummus as my dips, and red cabbage, roasted red beets and quinoa, kalamata olives, tomato and cucumber salad, Mama's pickled onions, and watermelon radish (new) for my toppings. For my protein, I paid the extra $1 for spicy lamb meatballs, but then got greedy and also added braised lamb ($4 extra) and seasonal roasted/grilled vegetables ($3 extra). I chose lemon tahini thyme dressing and asked if they could also add the yogurt dill dressing, too, if possible. It was delicious, packed to the brim, and they did add the yogurt dill dressing, which was great. The meat was still warm but somehow didn't make the salad warm, which I absolutely hate. It obviously wasn't as pretty since they had to fit a lid on (lol) and everything sort of smushed down, but I most definitely scraped everything off the lid, too, just to make sure I got it all. They've always been consistent with their food and I was super satisfied. I was happy to find out they started selling their dips, so I also got 16oz of the rustic hummus because I had been wanting to buy hummus the past few days. I figured this would be a good opportunity to order some fresh hummus from a local place instead of getting the ones from the grocery store. They use roasted garlic and black pepper in it, so it's got a little bit of a kick more than others, and it's also chunkier (hence the rustic title). This somehow made it seem more filling than other smooth hummus. They now have desserts as well, including a baklava cheesecake, but I had to cut myself off somewhere. As you can imagine, with all of my additions, my bill was not cheap, but it's always soooo good that I don't mind paying the price. If I'm gonna eat a salad, it's gonna be a good one! read more

I love this place and I cannot believe it took me so long to try it. I am all about the chef's special: lamb meatballs, with a spicy sauce, tzatziki, fresh veggies, it a fresh warm wrap. I could probably eat this every day. Price is perfectly reasonable for lamb ($1 up charge) but this place is a little more of a treat than other options. Totally worth it! Sooooo delish! I only wish they offered side salads: you can get a wrap, or a salad bowl, but no side salad. Missed opportunity in my opinion, but it does not stop me from enjoying the food somewhat regularly :D read more

I had lunch here today with a friend of mine from out-of-town and we both loved it! Pi-Rho Grill is a build your own meal kind of place. You pick a base (salad, rice, bread, etc.) then some spreads (tzatziki, hummus, harissa, etc.), then a protein (chicken, beef, lamb, etc.), then toppings (cucumber, quinoa, pita crisps, feta, etc.) and finally a dressing. There are so many different options. The price depends on the base and the type of protein you get. You can choose up to two types of spreads and you get unlimited toppings. You can also split your protein (e.g. get half chicken, half beef). I got the salad base ($10.25) with roasted red pepper hummus and harissa as my spreads (when you get a salad they use an ice cream scooper and give you a scoop of the spread). I choose half chicken and half braised lamb as my protein (there's no extra charge for chicken as your protein, but a $2 charge if you want the lamb. Since I got only half lamb, I was charged only $1 extra). For my toppings I got red cabbage slaw, quinoa (which is cooked in beet juice, so it's a cool red colour), crumbled feta cheese, cucumber, pita crisps, and tomato and cucumber salad. I got the yogurt dill as my dressing and asked for it on the side. When you get the salad base, it comes with a mini pita. I also got a bottle of water ($2). My salad bowl looked amazing. And it tasted amazing too! The lamb was so soft and melted in my mouth. It wasn't gamy which is a common complaint I have with lamb. The chicken was lean and had a nice lemon-pepper flavour. The hummus was creamy and smooth. The harissa was too spicy for my liking. The server said it was 4.5/10 spicy when I asked her how spicy it was. I think it's more a 7/10, but maybe I'm a spice wimp. The harrisa tasted good, it was just too spicy for me. All the toppings were fresh and delicious. I love mixing all the different textures and flavours. The yogurt dill dressing was really thick and tasted like tzatziki. It tasted great as a dipping sauce for my mini pita. Their bowls, cups and cutlery are all compostable. So pretty much everything you buy there will be compostable or recyclable. How cool is that? The staff were super nice and were patient with explaining to us how things worked there (since it was our first time). The restaurant is clean and modern. The Chapman Mills/Barrhaven Marketplace shopping complex really needed a healthy fast food option. All the other fast food options around are pretty greasy like pizza, burgers, corndogs, chicken fingers, etc. You can get a salad at Kelsey's but that's a sit-down restaurant. I guess you could get a salad at McDonald's or Wendy's but in my opinion it's so much better to spend a few extra bucks and build your own salad at Pi-Rho Grill. I hope they open other locations around Ottawa. I think they would do so well downtown. I am rarely in Barrhaven, but I think I will be going to Pi-Rho Grill every time I go to Barrhaven from now on. It's in the Chapman Mills/Barrhaven Marketplace shopping complex, so there is a lot of free parking. It's next to Sleep Country. Their website says that they are facing the Cineplex, but that is not entirely true. The building faces the Cineplex, but the front of the restaurant does not face the Cineplex. Look for Sleep Country. Pi-Rho Grill is right next door. read more

Such a different lunch! Healthy and filling. I had the zucchini cakes in my pita, and I thought they were bound with potato but I was wrong! It was chickpeas and chickpea flour. A delightful discovery! I found them a little expensive. The reason they get 4 out of 5 stars although the food was delicious and definitely healthy is the decor and signage. I usually like reclaimed decor, but I felt like I was eating in an unmaintained dirty barn. Tables and chairs were fine, but the walls... I truly don't know how to describe them. First time here-was amazing-so fresh and great combinations to choose from, great ambiance and high level of environmental care which is lacking in the restaurant business. Chose a base first-a pita-but the saffron rice, quinoa and grains and greens and grains looked also appealing-I played it safe though for my first time-the pita was warm and soft I might add-then a protein-the chicken was well seasoned, flavorful, not dry-then spread-feta jalapeño-the choices all sounded delicious-then veggie toppings -served with choice of beverage-including wine or beer but I opted for a delicious home made sugar free brewed iced tea which is so hard to find in this town. Don't get me started about how footprint conscious they were-everything is recyclable or compostable-straws, bowls, cutlery included-no garbage! Seriously no garbage left over! Kudos! This is one of those places where you leave thinking "I'm totally just gonna make this at home next time to save some money." Every time I've tried to recreate their bowls, I've been so disappointed! All Gluten free except for pita, this makes for a nice selection to build a good salad. We've been here multiple times and tried different combinations each time including chicken, beef and meatballs. If you're having trouble deciding on the protein they do allow for a split of two kinds. Their flavors are simply delicious. Their Green Tea and citrus iced tea leaves something to be desired but their Black Tea and Raspberry iced tea is quite nice. Whenever in the area I will happily return here for a yummy refreshing meal. I got a salad based bowl with chicken and a pomegranate ginger dressing. It was a hearty, generously portioned, and delicious meal all for less than $12! We tried Pi Rho for the first time tonight. Clean and bright, staff are very friendly and helpful. We got 2 takeout bowls. If you aren't sure how it works here you order a base, it can be rice, salad, pita, whatever is on the board. Then you pick 2 dips/spreads (we had eggplant, red pepper eggplant, and tzatziki), then a protein, then 4 toppings and then a dressing (we had lemon herb tahini, really good). Sounds weird but it works. The braised lamb and spicy lamb meatballs are amazing. The tzatziki is wonderful, full of flavour and herbs. Momma's pickled onions are the nicest sliced pickled onion I have ever tried, and I have tried lots, including my own. Everything is full of flavour and without being salty. Even the olives were not as salty as is common. It is just the right amount of food. Tip! You can split your proteins if you ask. For example, a half serving of braised lamb and a half serving of lamb meatballs. I'm happy that we now have a healthy, tasty fast alternative in Barrhaven. I will be visiting regularly. Next visit will be a large pita with lamb. read more
