Excellent food Hosted a dinner for 12 to celebrate my wife's 95th Birthday. I asked them to choose the best dishes for us, to eliminate the time it would take for 12 people to read the menus, discuss the options and place their orders. The only thing I pre ordered was #8 on the menu. The best soup in Ottawa, for everybody! The result was a wonderful meal that pleased every guest. 3.5... I want to give it a 5... The service was a 4. Professional. Basic. No on line resos. Had to call in, old school style. It was my birthday and I really wanted to try it. The food was amazing. Washroom.. ok. The restaurant was very cold. We had to sit with our coats on. It was below freezing outside on this date. Not cheap to eat here. No extras. No bday dessert. Just left... Happy enough but it wasn't a complete evening here if that makes sense. Ordered was green curry. Seasoned well. Jasmine Rice had to be ordered extra. Shrimp pad Thai. 3/4 spice level. Lots of chilis but I like things hot and spicy. I could not order a side of red curry sauce on the side. I've done that at other places. Not here. I can't believe I haven't reviewed Sukhothai yet. I've been to Sukhothai many times over the last decade and the food there is consistently good. Service is great and the servers even wear traditional Thai clothing. The restaurant is small but decor is nice, with lots of Thai art. Over the years I've tried many items on the menu. Spring rolls ($5.50 for 2) are a bit on the small side but crispy. Chicken satay (2 skewers for $5.50) are tasty and the peanut dipping sauce has a nice spicy kick to it. The Chicken and Vegetable soup with glass noodles ($5.50) is a small portion, but it's filled with chicken, baby corn, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots and noodles. The broth is flavourful and not full of fat/grease. The shrimp Pad Thai ($15.95) is one of the best in Ottawa. The sauce is tangy and sweet. The chicken fried rice ($15.95) is excellent. The spices are really interesting and it comes with tomatoes and cucumbers! The seafood pineapple curry fried rice ($17.95) comes served in a pineapple. The Panang curry ($16.95) is creamy with a strong peanut taste. It's slightly spicy. The amount of meat in the curry is small though, there's lots of vegetable filler on the plate. The Sweet and Sour Shrimp ($17.95) is good too, but a bit boring, as is the Cashew Chicken ($15.95). My only complaint is that the prices are a bit high for the portion size. The plates are filled with garnishes like tomatoes, cucumbers, red cabbage and lettuce. The dishes contain relatively little protein, the only exception to this is the Chicken and Vegetable soup which has a surprisingly large amount of chicken. In terms of actual taste and flavourings, Sukhothai is one of my favourite Thai restaurants in Ottawa. It's in Bells Corners and they have their own private parking lot. read more

The food is fine. not the best but fine. The service is why I'm giving it only a 3 star. You sit down, water already poured, you order, the miso soup is right there, you haven't finished your soup, and your meal is there, you're soup is gone...you eat, put your fork down, and the bill is there. if your looking for a quick 'okay' Thai lunch. this is the place. if you're looking for a great Thai lunch with family or friends...give it a miss. The food is fine, you're in and out in 40 minutes even though you've said 'we not in a hurry'. read more

Firstly, the service was indifferent and uncaring. The staff did not show any concern for our table preference and they did not care at all about our experience as dishes were dumped on the table. The food reminded us of a bad food truck that will be popular because it is the only one in an area. The music playing was like elevator or doctor's office waiting room music (like you were placed on hold on the telephone) with some random bird calls mixed in. Most problematic and importantly, the food was substandard. The food came out quickly, like it had all been pre-prepared, sitting on heat racks in the kitchen. This was true for all of the appetizers and main dishes. We have had better food when taking out frozen boxes of food from a grocery store and reheating them ourselves at home. Food colouring and store bought sauces and ingredients were obviously being used and nothing tasted fresh or flavourful. Certainly seemed frozen and lacked delicacy, care, or quality. It was tasteless, pasty, generic, and undesirable. Would never return or recommend. Very expensive too and low quality! read more

When I have a craving for Thai and something that is not golden chicken I come to Sukhothai. The location is small and if you don't get there early for lunch you can expect a wait. If you order off the lunch menu the food will come pretty fast. I have found the food decent 90% of the time. I've had the odd time were the food wasn't as expected. E.g I've received Pad Thai swimming in sauce which sucks but for the most part that's the exception. I've tried a few items during lunch and the food is decent. Just a heads up that the soup you get can be on the salty side at times. read more

A hidden gem in Bells Corners! I came here on a Saturday night and it was a full house. We ordered a shrimp soup ($6.95), red curry with shrimp (#37- $20.95), and pad Thai (#50- $17.95). The soup and curry was very flavourful, but too rich for my taste - I needed to add rice which was an extra $3.95. I found it odd that the curry doesn't come with rice like most standard curries, but it was hands down my favourite out of the three! I love Thai curries because they use coconut milk. The pad Thai was also amazing and is one of their signature dishes! The portions for the curry and pad Thai were large so I recommend sharing with someone. I came here with two other adults and the two entrées and soup filled us up with no room for dessert. However, there is a separate lunch menu, most priced at $11.95 so I think the portion sizes there are smaller. All in all, I would definitely come here again! I took a star off because the curry is expensive given that it doesn't come with rice and the rice is expensive - most places only charge $2. read more

I'm a fan of Sukothai. Years ago, when I had a sister living in Barrhaven, we'd order in their food. More recently, my wife & I will make a detour to get out there. The restaurant feels authentic, and the menu offers a nice variety of Thai dishes. There's enough spice to give a little kick to the dishes, but not so much that it's unmanageable. I'm still working my way through the menu; I've enjoyed the curries and fried rice dishes, but still have to decide what my go-to dish will be - I guess that means I have to go back again, soon. read more

ok, we have some great Thai restaurants in Ottawa, but this is one of the best. It's very authentic, the staff our dressed in traditional Thai apparel, super friendly, and very quick with service. We had a group of 10 at the restaurant on Tuesday - soups all around for apps - super tasty, fresh, and spicy....lol.....very. We split a number of entrees including the traditional Pad Thai - very, very good. It's worth the drive to Bells Corners. read more

The servers are top notch: all wear beautiful Asian dresses, know the menu inside out and are very efficient. The food is very good. They also offer take-out which is very popular judging by the amount of people the show up for orders while your sitting down having your meal. One star for the extremely poor service, we did not even get to try their food. I walked in with a tank top and was turned away because I had to have a shirt with sleeves. Luckily, I had a shirt in the car. I quickly changed in the car and went back in the restaurant. The server then rudely said it's take out only because they're closing soon. It was 8:45 pm when we went in and the sign on their door clearly said 10 pm closing time. I asked what time they close at and was told, "at around 9:30". I can understand if they didn't want to keep the doors open for one more table. If it weren't for the uncalled rudeness, I would not have written this review. read more

Come with reasonable expectations. I'm afraid the 5 star reviews create very high expectations. This is not a 5 star place. It's really a 2.5 in my opinion. The service was okay. The place clean enough. Food was fine, but by no means outstanding. It was just slightly below average. Got the Tom Kha with shrimp. It was tasty, but a bit rich. The shrimp were good. I did not like the spring rolls, too greasy. Got the PaNang Curry with veggies. The rice was mushy, like it had been cooked a long time ago. The veggies were okay, but not very good. This place is fine for some run-of-the-mill Thai food, but by no means 5 stars. Oh, and the street number is 2134, not 134. And I'd like to add that I feel we were overcharged. When I brought it to the servers attention, she became rude and defensive. Another reason why I'll never go back, and I recommend you don't go in the first place. Great food but once too many tonight I get home and we're missing items in our order... I waited a very long time for my overpriced food to get home and having only 1 rice when I ordered and paid for 3. This is not the only time where we've missed food so tonight is the night where I write a review. Also shame on you for charging me 1$ for sauce for your 8$ spring roll order! Stopped on our way to Montreal. Found on yelp and noted all the great comments. Super clean and well decorated. Immediately see that with a smile. Tried many of our Thai favorites and we're not disappointed. My wife had the shrimp Pad Thai and my daughter had the chicken Pad Thai. Both were very good. I have a chicken cashew nut. It was very well prepared. The vegetables were cooked perfectly. It was slightly sweet which I liked. My son had chicken wrapped in pandemon leaves. It was excellent and worth ordering again. Are waitress finish the meal out with the friendly conversation trying to get to know us. She gave the kids a special treat as they left. All in all a great experience at Sukhothai. RUDE RUDE RUDE The food here is tasty but the service in the restaurant is horrible. We hosted a small office holiday party and were treated terribly. We planned 3 weeks in advance for a late seating after 8:30pm. Despite the fact that the restaurant knew we would be later.....we were rushed to order, eat our food, pay, use the washroom and leave! When we went to pay we were rudely handed back the interact machine with a loud reminder that gratuity is 15%! The waitresses even took the liberty to take their own gratuity from the change back from my beverage order! I ask you - is that tipping or is that theft?! Unbelievable. I was extremely embarrassed for my work colleagues as I had recommended we host our party at this restaurant....never again. Sure the chicken coconut curry is tasty....but find another restaurant that makes it without stealing from your wallet and treating you obnoxiously. read more

Sukhothai is a reasonable Thai food restaurant located conveniently in Bell's Corners. Service is reasonably quick (less then 1/2 hr from ordering to receiving food) and the prices are average. After trying a few dishes, I would suggest that their best dish is Pad Thai. The only detraction of this establishment is the service. I have seen disgruntled waitresses arguing with customers. In the past I have seen a customers refused a request to have a meal extra hot as they feared the customer would return the order. If you can over look this issue, the restaurant is very reasonable. read more

#41 is chicken and potatoes in yellow thai coconut curry sauce and you won't find it better anywhere in the city. I had this with an order of sticky rice and it has quickly become my favorite dish. I was a little hesitant because it has potatoes served with it but they actually compliment the sauce and chicken. Great service, restaurant it cozy but the food is fantastic. Fantastic Thai restaurant. Never had a bad experience. Food always arrives piping hot and delicious. This is my favourite place to eat in Ottawa. Prices are reasonable for the portion sizes. Ordered in from here last night-and although pricey and the order wasn't quite right-I really didn't care it was fabulous. Had the mango salad a very spicy number, watch out for the small green and red chillis if you don't love lots of heat, red curry chicken that I could eat everyday, pad thai that didn't have a hint of ketchup-unlike others I've had, and the chicken satay-that without the peanut sauce would have been just ok. Not as good as Anna on Holland-but given the location and how good the food was, I'll be back.
