THE ONLY REASON THE REVIEW IS 2 STARS, IS BECAUSE ITS HARDER TO DELETE. - Went to Oso for the first time, male greeter in all black was very dismissive. I feel like they purposely wanted to ignore us until the happy hour promo passed. The woman who served us was so cute and pleasant that I dead didn't think she worked there. She changed the whole vibe and did her best to revive the quality of service. She literally ran with 1 minute left before happy hour was over and locked in our drinks after being ignore for 15 minutes after being seated. I got up to go to the bar because my party and I ordered drinks and then had to take them to go because we were ASKED TO LEAVE so a table of 4 white people could have our table of 2, and I watched the male bartender, be condescending and talk down to our lovely Black woman server multiple times. Over stupid shit about her piercing the drink ticket on the stand when it was completed....except after 30 minutes of waiting while seated, I was NOW standing at the bar after being kicked out BECAUSE he didn't make the drinks. She couldn't punch the ticket as complete because of his inefficiency and he was making us wait to lecture her when I watched her serve 3 tables, service an uber eats driver outside the restaurant and deliver 2x rounds of drinks before he even pulled out these baby sippy cups to make the drinks. I came in and out the restaurant twice waiting for the drinks after they asked us to LEAVE so a table of four white folks could have our 2 person table, since we were only waiting for drinks. At that point they lost me despite how awesome our server was. Having to come in for the drinks twice, then the same uninterested greeter from before waived me off when I asked him if the drinks being ready is too much disrespect. When I went back to the bar after the greeter waived me off, I saw the bartender ask and serve these white women at the bar if they were ready for another rounds of drinks and then when our server met my eyes, she asked him AGAIN about our drinks. I saw the bartender fish through the stack of punched tickets and lecture her AGAIN. He then told me that after waiting the 25 minutes for the drinks, we would have to wait 5 more minutes and then he turned around to continue scolding the server. He insisted on slowing service down, by being incredibly inefficiently and yappy. Like through the loud music and his domineering body language you could see him talking down to her while she's hustling and then trying to avoid my nosy eyes while pretending to make six ounces of bullshit. If you're white; you'll love this place because you will get fast tracked, star treatment. You can even bring your golden doodle fleabag dog into the restaurant and get serviced faster than I did for an already paid drink. Attached below are the drinks in question that took 30 minutes to receive with no straw in between a Celsius for comparison.

I recommend a reservation as Oso is not that big! They also have outdoor seating. Oso has an interesting selection of food. However, they are extremely lacking in vegetarian options. None of the tacos or burritos are vegetarian. I had a lemonade and the batatas con mole which is one of the few vegetarian dishes. It was good, though I wish I could have enjoyed a taco as well. We had empanadas which were also vegetarian. The green sauce they come with is great. They have desserts but we were so full and didn't get to try them. Pretty bustling restaurant with attentive staff. I will go back but I hope they add more vegetarian options

I am giving Oso 4 stars because of our history. Pre pandemic Oso was our go to restaurant! Every single weekend we would come for their shrimp quesadillas. It was not your average quesadilla, it was so authentic and their margaritas never disappoint! I am not sure if they changed their chef but the food was just ok this time around. We ordered the esquites which used to be served in a bowl, this time they tried to get too fancy and put it in a cup. I feel like the corn was drowning in sauce and it felt more like a corn soup. The tostada was good, on the spicy side. The fish taco was way too fried and I could taste the oil. A little disappointed, Oso was one of my favorites!

I came to Oso for lunch on a double date with my fiancé and a couple of friends around 2:30pm on a Saturday. We did not have a reservation but were able to walk in without any wait time. This restaurant is super cute, has a lot of greenery and light wooden decor which make it feel very open, clean, and natural. Service was very top notch, with the waiters constantly attentive of our table and making sure we had everything we needed. They have a pretty extensive menu with appetizers, many drink options, tacos, soups/salads, and larger plates. There was definitely something for everyone. My fiancé and I shared: - guacamole: the guacamole was very good! It had the perfect balance of saltiness and acidity with nice textures from the finely diced onions and tomatoes. They added some slices of radish to it which I've never seen but I actually really enjoyed! The tortilla chips that this came with were amazing. They were crispy, had a nice thickness to them, tasted super fresh, and were not oily at all! Would recommend! The portion of guacamole was a little small compared to how many chips you get but overall I really enjoyed this. - shrimp tacos: these were pretty good! The tortilla was fresh, the spice level was perfect, the shrimp were tender and had that delicious charcoal umami flavor from the grill. They had a nice creamy chipotle sauce and some refreshing cucumber slaw which added brightness to the dish. Would get these again! - quesadilla de tinga: I was very intrigued by this because of the blue corn tortilla. The tortilla was amazing, but I feel like the filling fell a little short to my expectations, the cheese was not as melted as I had hoped and the chicken tinga, even though flavorful, was a little dry. That being said, this was a very filling dish! The quesadillas look small but they are very generous with the filling which is not the case in other places. Would give this another try but maybe with another meat. - enchiladas: I'm a big fan of enchiladas in salsa verde so my standards are high. These were good but definitely not the best I've had. The sauce felt a little too watery and flat in flavor. I did appreciate again the large portion and how generous they were with the filling. However, not sure I would order these again and would opt for tacos or quesadillas instead! Overall, I liked this place and thought the prices were very reasonable. Their Mexican food is pretty good, not the best I've had but probably a 6.5/10 (which is higher than many other places I've had in the city). That being said, my standards for Mexican food are pretty high since I lived in California for many years and have been struggling to find something comparable in NYC so far. I do think the ambiance and service really make this place worth it! The ambiance is very cute and nice for a gathering with friends or a chill date night. The service was very attentive and soo friendly. I also loved how this has more of a neighborhood-spot feel and feels authentic. Would come back again to try more of their dishes in the future (including their churros which look amazing but I was too full to try my first time!)

The fish tacos were amazing! You get two fully packed fish tacos, I could have eaten two more! The chips are fresh! I tried the 3 salsas and they were good but they were spicy. The esquites were good too. My cousin ordered the steak bowl and it came with 4 tortillas on the side. The bowl had a lot of flavor and was full to the top. We tried two drinks the taco truck was my favorite! The illegal mezcal drink was good but not great. Now let's talk about the CHURROS!! they were delicious. They were soft like fall apart soft and hot. I would get these for sure next time. The restaurant itself is dimly lit and has a lot of decor and a beautiful mural wall. A great date night option. The servers were nice and not overwhelming. Great little neighborhood gem. Prices were decent maybe a little pricey but in this day and age it's expected.

    Hongos quesadilla

This was really good Mexican food at a reasonable price. I had the hongos (mushroom) quesadilla, and arroz y frijoles on the side. The two blue corn quesadillas were filled with cheese and an avocado salsa and came with salsa verde on the side, which introduced a variety of rich, savory, toasty, and bright flavors. The rice and beans were warm and hearty, and came filled with some cheese as well. The whole meal came to $30 after tax and tip, and the portions were quite generous. The only drawback is that the space is quite loud. There were some particularly loud customers at the bar, and the noise only went up when they started playing music. I'd recommend sitting outside next time, or getting takeout.

Our experience at Oso was great! Guacamole is so so fresh and you can tell the tortilla chips aren't from a bag from the grocery store. Drinks are also well made and hits the spot. Fully enjoyed my experience and service received. Happy hour is the best part - BOGO on their WHOLE drink menu! Fantastic!

Very delicious!!! It's always a bummer when the service isn't great but also it wasn't bad by any means just more of a : take your order and that's it. Which is fine for some. The food was great though, and I was recommended to get the quesadillas as the best value option and I agree!
