After 45 minutes, we had finished our champagne and were still waiting on everything else. After checking in on food, we finally received our bread. The people next to us (who arrived after us) had received their food and almost finished by the time we received our bread. After an hour of waiting, it was just too much. My family came to this place for a dinner as we were around the area and we were not disappointed! The seating is pretty limited so we did have to wait a bit. Keep in mind that the service here is very focused on trying to keep how they are run very traditionally, with main dishes such as steak or veal being individualized and should not be shared under any circumstances and may come off as rude to some people. The pasta, however, was encouraged to be shared. We ordered four pasta dishes to be shared with a family of five and it was more than enough. Each dish was very flavorful, with the beef ragu being my favorite. The pasta was cooked perfectly with a nice al dente texture and portions were fair for its price. This is more so a place for a quick bite - maybe even a lunch more than dinner. The staff was really kind and took time to chat with us. This was our first meal after landing in Rome, and first meal ever in Italy, so this place has a special place in my heart. The highlight of this restaurant for me was the Oxtail stew. The sauce is absolutely delicious, full of meaty and tomato-y flavor. The meat just fell off the bone with the gentlest pull of the fork. I enjoyed it so much, this was the first meal I tried to make at home once I returned home from my try. We also tried Roman artichokes for the first time. Both the steamed version and the deep friend version. Big surprise, we liked the fried one better. The Carbonara was amazing, and made me realize I had been making Carbonara wrong my entire life. Pasta places in the US don't even compare. The chocolate souffle for dessert was rich, creamy, dare I say sinful, and the perfect way to top off an excellent meal. We, being the idiots we are, left a bag here when we left. When we came back the next day, the waiter immediately recognized us and brought out the bag. The waiter brought a pepper and oil concoction to add some spice to the dish and I don't know how but it made this perfect dish even better. Staff was friendly and funny. Highly recommend. We had a magnificent meal started off with a plate of freshly seared thinly sliced vegetables char grilled to perfection. Accompanied with some amazing olive oil salt and thickly milled pepper. It was so simple yet so flavourful and fresh! Next we shared the oxtail pasta and cheese and some very decedent cheese & pepper gnocchi. Both were just perfection. This is such a great spot. We arrived right when it opened for the evening and all seats were open, although as we dined they filled quickly. We ordered food to share and they were very accommodating. The only minor issue I had was ordering wine. I thought the wine list could be ordered by the glass however it was only bottle. If you order by glass it is only a house wine. The house white wine was a little sweeter than I would have liked but it was still tasty. The food however overall was disappointing compared to what I've experienced in the Trastevere area, across the river. The octopus app was cooked perfectly but the sauce could have been stronger. I ordered the fish pasta and the server suggested making it into a seafood, which I graciously accepted. The pasta was cooked perfectly, but not fresh pasta like what I've experienced otherwise. The sauce was also essentially heavy butter and olive oil. The bottle of wine (they don't have carafes) we had is made by the owner and was good. Delicious and authentic Roman fare in a nice, traditional atmosphere. It was hot (a July evening) when we came in, so we got a refreshing drink made with limoncello, white sangria, tonic, and sliced lemon & lime. We started our meal with caprese (shared) which came already dressed with olive oil and balsamic, but we were provided with more dressings in case we wanted more. I went with the waiter's suggestion and had the gnocchi with calamari and my wife had cacio e pepe with chicory; both were very good. The gnocchi was a special on that particular Thursday evening, and we were informed that gnocchi is a traditional Thursday dish. We got a little basket of bread with our meal, gratis (sometimes bread costs extra in Rome). We had the house red wine, and that was also good. We finished with a piece of chocolate lava cake (shared) followed by cappuccinos. We were given some little swirled biscotti rounds which went well with the coffee. Finally, out came limoncellos, the traditional Italian digestivo, which is always much-appreciated. We got there a little early by Roman dining standards, about 7:45 (which happens to be when they open for dinner), and we had the waiter's undivided attention for a while until other folks started trickling in. The waiter (possibly the owner, not sure) had lots of good recommendations, and I think we got a little extra special treatment because we enthusiastically accepted many of his recommendations. I wish I could remember his name; he was friendly, funny, and had a lively personality. We were happy with the food, the excellent service, and I was quite surprised when we got the check--very reasonable. This place is a tourist trap. Very expensive. For the casual dinner, the food is probably good. But if you know italian food, not so much. The ingredients they use are very low grade. We had the roast potatoes (thinly sliced and cooked to perfection - not too salty), carbonara (the bacon was crunchy) and the meatballs. They were all so good! The place is tucked in in the alleyway and when we went there at the times there were road work around them so we thought we went to the wrong place. It was indeed the right place. Very underwhelming food and rude waiter.We wanted a quick , simple meal after having driven in from an extended stay in Tuscany and stopped here as it was close to our hotel. It looked like a cute Osteria where we could find typical Roman dishes,pastas and hearty meats-the pasta in the Amatriciana my husband ordered was mushy- not al dente like it is typically prepared all over Italy. The veal I ordered was dry, tough and chopped into small bite sized pieces - not the thin cutlet scaloppine style. After the meal we asked to see the desert menu and to order a coffee, the waiter rudely said Osteria's NEVER have coffee and proceeded to tell us while in Italy we should know not to order coffee in this style of restaurant.Then the owner/ manager also came and told us coffee is never served in this type of restaurant. Okay- we've had coffee after dinner in all types of restaurants throughout the years we've come to Italy from 5 star restaurants down to the corner pizzeria. Exquisite place to eat in a city full of tourists. We were searching for a good place that wasn't a tourist trap after visiting the Villa Borghese park and we found this restaurant on the inside of a small street. There were mostly tourists here since it was the full-blown tourist season during the summer, but still, the place was relaxing. A small, low-lit, intimate restaurant which was perfect for us as a couple! There were some tables outside too, but all of them were taken. The decor was adorable, giving off a vintage, classy vibe. The manager (or owner, not very sure) seemed a bit stressed since the place was quite packed for the size of it all, which slowed the service down a bit. We didn't mind at all since we were on vacation and when they came to serve us, the waiters recommended us well for the choice of beer they had. I really don't remember which beer we ended up choosing - it was a blond one, but I remember that I loved it (which is exceptional, because I usually do not like beer). Every meal we got served was great! I got a vegeterian lasagna, expecting it to be a light meal, but it was quite the opposite, my stomach getting heavier with every tasteful bite. Rome is awash with restaurants and we would have been completely lost without the use of another review website, and that's how we found Antico Osteria Brunetti. Like any good Italian restaurant, everything was made from scratch and the ingredients were of good quality. Their wine list was fantastic and everything we ordered, from pasta to seafood, was excellent, as was the service. I had one dish here that was possibly the best thing I tasted in Italy. It was a seafood pasta in a tomato sauce. Now, I usually poo poo tomato sauces as they tend to be overly acidic and can mask or ruin the complexity of underlying flavors. But this was like no sauce I'd ever had. It was a thin rich broth that was instantly addictive. I asked the serve what it was made of, and she said fish stock and roma tomatoes. Whatever it was, it was divine, out of this world, and I've since tried to recreate it at home with mixed success. Bottom line, you will not be disappointed with Antico Osteria Brunetti. read more

Really don't like to complain but I read all the good reviews and got really excited for this place and then was disappointed. Ordered the vegetable lasagna and it came back overcooked and almost crunchy. Second course was scallope di pollo, not bad just meh, nothing special about it. Finally had the tiramisu, was actually quite good but came in a glass as sort of a pudding cup. Last part was that there is a 15% tip included which I know is pretty regular for Europe to include tips in the cost but it was added on after the fact so it appeared that our total was higher than it was supposed to be, that's not a complaint just more of something to be aware of.
