This was a find!!!! We decided to head to Brooklyn for pizza - if you know, you know - and decided to walk around the neighborhood and we happened upon Ostrovitsky Bakery. We had: - Chocolate Babka - delicious, one of the best we ever had - Apple Pie - very good - Black and White cookie - good but not great We will defiantly come back for dessert when we need our pizza fix! read more

This is a review for a birthday cake that was ordered. I requested a cake for up to 6-8 slices, the woman I spoke with on the phone was very patient and courteous while informing me what they can do. When I came to pick up the cake, it was very lovely and I was completely happy with the results. The chocolate sponge cake was moist and the cherry pudding or filling wasn't overly sweet. Everyone enjoyed. Will be ordering more birthday cakes from here in the future. read more

The challah bread here is seriously baked in heaven. While I am not a big fan of there cookies by the pound at all... the smell of there bread and the fluffiness just put Ostrovitsky on a whole different level of amazing. The bread is one of the best breads I've ever had in Brooklyn. The aroma of fresh baked bread will fill your car when your purchase them. The hamentash specifically the prune is so delicious and is so soft it melts in your mouth. Cash and credit accepted. Lines are very long on Friday but they have staff and lines move fast. If you can avoid going alone go with someone on Friday's because finding parking is a MESS. Specifically Friday before the "Shabbat rush." I definitely recommend the pull apart challah.. while it might not look beautiful the smell and taste is next level. Best if you eat it same day as it gets a bit hard and looses texture the next day! Definitely make it to Ostrovitsky!! read more

I admit, the cheesecake portion of the dessert is delicious. It's not as dense as I like my cheesecake, which explains why the knife didn't come out clean when sliced. The flavor is there. What went wrong? What upset me more than the cold & indifferent service (seriously, who pissed in your cornflakes?) is the packaging. I sliced right through the thin aluminum foil it came in. Incredibly unsafe. What upset me even more (if that's even possible) is that there was no graham cracker crust! How do you make cheesecake with the best part missing? Get it together. read more

I have no idea what this is called, but it was seriously one of the greatest desserts I've ever had. It's flaky, chocolatey, and covered in powdered sugar-What's not to love about it? It's also a very generous portion. I am not a huge sugar fan so usually never have a birthday cake or anything like that. This year, I told my family I want one of these!! I called to see if I can place a custom order for cupcakes and the very rude lady snapped at me and said that they don't do that! Absolutely worst customer service! All the Russian ladies that work there have a disgusting attitude and sound like they don't want to be there. Absolutely horrible! If I could give this place 0 stars I would. read more

This bakery is very unsafe, they do not follow the social distancing and mask rules, customers are gathering close together without any face covering or it's not completely covering their nose and mouth, I visited the place a few times with the same problem, there's a guy usually at the back who walks around from front to back with no face covering at all, to be fair the ladies behind the counter usually wears a mask but they are not saying anything to the ones that don't. This place is unsafe and you should avoid there and call 311 to complain. read more

I live a block away and while the chocolate cigars are delicious, the staff here are just SO rude. Once my sister came in to buy a cake and asked for "Merry Christmas" to be written on it and the worker refused because it was a Jewish bakery. I went in there two days ago and asked for a box of rainbow cookies for a staff party and was told to buy the plastic boxes up against the wall (which barely have enough cookies per container). After explaining I needed cookies for a lot of people she just told me to buy the plastic boxes. Eventually I gave up and told her to forget since I came to buy a box of cookies from the actual bakery and not 10 boxes of the plastic boxed ones. Every time I'm there I'm greeted with an eye roll or a rude woman who refuses to help me. Fix your staff! read more

Placed first online order. Bakery substituted an item without contacting us. They made good on the mistake in the second order we just received. Challah breads and bobkas were very good. The seasonal Honey cake is the BEST I have had since my childhood in Chicago. Skip the kichels. Shipping was very quick on both orders. We will order again! read more

I've stopped by here several times when switching buses on the corner. Usually their pastries are very good. Yes, there is an air of arrogance by the staff. The other day I drove there specifically to purchase some pastries, and they were closed at 6 pm on a Tuesday. Usually they close 8 or 9 pm. It wasn't a Jewish holiday. No reason for them to be closed! No sign on the gate, nothing. When I called the number on their awning, it just rang and rang. How hard is it to buy a $10 answering machine and list your store hours and other pertinent info?!? Like if your closed early on a particular day or week for a holiday. read more

When I think Brooklyn I think accents, pizza and bakeries. And when it comes to bakeries look no further than this little gem. Upon entering you're greeted with a warm smell of vanilla, eggs and sugary goodness. My husband swears by this place so I decided to try their infamous chocolate danish. Now I love my chocolate but I hate pastries since I've usually had dry, falling apart, messy and gross ones before. But not Ostrovitsky! It's buttery crumbly layer delicately holds back the gooey chocolate Center. The outer layer isn't too sugary which lets you enjoy the sweet middle without being overly sweet or overwhelming. Oh and did I mention one of them was a day old and I still devoured it! Grab yourself a good cup of strong coffee and grab a chocolate danish and let Brooklyn welcome you the only way it knows how, with good food! read more

The bakery is fair here but the customer service is no where to be found. Nasty people making customers feel like they are doing you a favor. I buy cookies here for clients and am treated like garbage every time. I love their location and see why they still get business. However when I don't have to I will go to other bakeries where people smile and appreciate my business. Baked goods are nothing to go crazy over, much better bakeries in the area that are also kosher. read more

This bakery gets high marks for outstanding treats. Their challah is delicious. However, anyone who enters this place has to accept the fact that they may be treated so-so by the counter women. Do not take it personal, they are curt with everyone, including the old-timers who clearly know the song-and-dance and treat them equally poorly. Fridays are super busy and patience runs thin all around. Know what you're ordering in advance, say "thank you" and "please", don't be overly excited or ask questions, avoid other niceties. I'm proud to say that I've walked out with a yummy treat, content that I didn't get into an argument or felt offended. read more

Very disappointed with a customer service. I placed an order online to be delivered during Chanukah. Order was placed before the Chanukah started. Two weeks later I never received an email from them that my order was shipped. I called the place and find out, that my order was never shipped!!! That order was a Chanukah present for someone! After all, they just asked me, if I still want my order to be delivered or I want my money back.... Can you imagine, that you know that you sent a gift and it's important on a curtain day......and it was never delivered !!! read more

They sell Ostrovitsky products in my neighborhood at D'Vine Taste and EVERYTHING I have had there is amazing. We have the Kokosh cake right now and my son is in heaven! I cannot comment regarding the customer service at their actual bakery as some have...but their products are excellent. read more

best jewish bakery i've ever been to, and definitely the best on avenue j. that is saying a lot, there are a lot of jewish bakeries on avenue j. challah is delicious, sweet and not dry. hamantashens are just as good, i prefer apricot, but all flavors are good. definitely recommend i don't know why this bakery only has 4 stars. 5 star worthy. read more

the challah is so fresh, sweet and delicious. Rye bread so soft and fresh, more like white bread though... not a strong rye flavor but i didn't care. something happens to me when i walk into bakeries like this - old school NYC establishment - basically I become intoxicated - so you might not be able to trust this 5 star review - just go there for yourself to taste the buttery chocolate rugalach ... prepackaged cookies for on the go orders. read more

I have been going to this bakery off and on for years. Luckily it is not right near my apartment or I would be there everyday! Their baked goods are excellent, their challah is excellent, their prices are in line with other Kosher bakeries and if you are nice to the people who work there, smile and wait your turn, I have found the staff to be friendly and helpful. It is a busy bakery for a good reason (sugar & carbs) so often the people there have no time to chit chat but that they try to keep the lines moving should not be held against them! read more

Custard stuffed lobster pastries are heavenly and the challah bread is delicious. I wish that we still lived near this bakery. It is incredibly clean, well run and the smell that comes from this bakery as you walk past could be described as cinnabuns in heaven. I ordered a sandwich that had arugula (I forgot the name), but it was so light and refreshing with all of the ingredients. Eating an entire baguette sandwich did not weigh me down at all!! The service was quick and they were patient while I was deciding what I wanted to get. The decor was simple, and it had plenty of seating!

Icing was hard and extremely sweet, even the kiddos said it was too sweet. The inside cake was dense. I'm thinking the cake was old and was sitting in the fridge for a while. But for $47.50 I am disappointed.

I love taking a moment to browse all the desserts in the display case because there are so many options, and I appreciate the variety every time. The bread pudding was my favorite--they don't skimp on the serving, it heats up well, and it's perfect to take on the go without worrying about the texture later. The Napoleon was also great; the cream was delicious and not overly sweet. While I'm usually a big carrot cake fan, this one leaned towards being too sweet for me.
