I'm not really a cookie / cake / pie person, but the challah here is, for sure, one of the best challahs I've had in my entire life. Even better than Ostrovitsky and Shloimy's, which are some of the best Heimish challahs in Brooklyn. I'll tell you why. The crust is deep golden brown and massively crusty and flaky. Beautiful egg-wash sheen. The inside is soft, fluffy, and golden, which just a hint of sweetness. Lastly, they have garlic and onion challahs, which make the challah taste like a garlic or onion bagel. So yummy. And when you tear a piece off for breakfast the next morning or two and slather on the butter, it is the perfect companion for your morning coffee. I generally don't eat challah except for kiddush, but the onion and garlic challah here is so tasty that I'll snack on it the next few days. read more

Full glass retail enclosures give you the chance to glance enough to decide to commit to entry or pass them by. Trouble is, to patrons inside looking at you outside, your always looking odd and confused and occasionally creepy. I know this, so I stopped doing it and so -- I march right in, not window drooling over the freshly baked sweetbreads and Babka, it's so uncouth. Thinking its Sesame's shopping basket -- and I'm still unsure if it was or if it wasn't -- I grabbed a black ivy pattern thickish steel bread tin thing and slipped into the Mickey Mouse hand shaped plastic glove and soon my holder is about to spillith over. So I kinda cuddled it like a baby cub, swung a pirouette towards the rear which was all coffee and juices and stuff, then back to where I began because I didn't know the names of half of my items and I just have to know that stuff or I'll go mad at home deciphering the questionable ones. I did buy sweetbread for Ma Dukes, and an anvil heavy chocolate danish that a took a good hearty rip out of, on my drive home, it pinned my tounge like a wrestler -- it was spectacular! a short baguette that didn't have the look I'm used to as it was whiter perhaps due to the flour - it looked like a ghost baguette. Then a small pretzel loaf (that was a cool item) beautiful color, soft but resistance, two Kaiser rolls and a boring looking corn muffin. I'm really trying to avoid coldcutts however these two breads are bringing me back to the negotiating table. And all told, it was like ten bucks! read more

THIS IS NOT OK! Just went to get some donuts for Hanukah. They leave out hundreds of trays outside and inside, you grab a box and help yourself. There are about 50-60 people in this tiny space just pushing and shoving and touching donuts with their bare hands. Not only is it Covid and everything happening in this place is just wrong but even if there wasn't a pandemic this is just unsanitary and not ok. I witnessed one guy touch 3 donuts before he decided on the one he wanted. And we wonder why this virus isn't going away. Someone please shut this place down! read more

Came for the sufganiyot, the place was packed. So many racks full of all possible flavors, must come here outside of Chanukah season, looks like they have delicious bagels and coffee. Fresh sufganiyot coming out every 5 mins, come early if you want pistachio, that's the first to run out. I'm not a fan of donuts, but these are pretty good. Dense but good because of all the yummy fillings. Don't try to eat a whole one, they are quite big. read more

Such amazing donuts. Had a nice surprise trying these after a friend brought them over. They were all delicious, had the perfect amount of filling, and were so soft. Melt in your mouth soft. I'm still thinking about them a week later. My favorite was the top right. I wish I knew what kind it was but it had caramel filling. Totally recommend all of them though. read more

My friends picked up a box of fancy sufganiyot. Incredible. I don't have the amount of words necessary to explain how delicious they were. I only tried the lotus and custard donuts before I was too stuffed to continue. They were all beautifully decorated. Each one has its own decoration according to its flavor. The donuts were doughy and delicious. I love them so much. So yummy and delicious. I hope to go here soon as everything was delicious. There are a ton of different flavors including: Lotus, custard, raspberry, strawberry, blueberry, cappuccino, chocolate, peanut butter, toffee, Oreo and a ton of others. Amazing tasting. read more

If you want to strike fear in my heart, just tell me you're stopping by a kosher bakery to bring over dessert. 'Cause you see, I have ongoing bad flashbacks of all the deceptively delicious looking pareve, aka dairy-free, layer cakes iced with cloying, waxy frosting that I've been forced to endure over the years. One thing I'm willing to concede, though, is that pareve breakfast pastries, like Babka, Kokosh, Rugelach, and Danish(es?) can be pretty good. So I stopped in here with that in mind: Wound up trying various Cinnamon & Chocolate-filled pastries and far-preferred the former. In fact, I happen to adore cinnamon (see my Kopitiam review to find out just how much) and was overjoyed to see it used without restraint. Fwiw, the chocolate filling in the pastries I tried was just kind of blah and lacking in intensity. On another visit, some small, rectangular Flatbreads, topped with caramelized onions, caught my eye. I was a little disappointed when I brought them home, expecting airy crispness and winding up with uber soft and doughy instead. But then, in a moment of pure culinary genius, inspired by my love of French Onion Soup, I decided to top them with Swiss Cheese and toast in the oven. Boom! Now, this was delicious and something I'd happily eat again. I tend to view kosher in relative terms: As in, with its contemporary aesthetics, v. the many um... dilapidated bakeshops that pervade Midwood, I could see how this would be a welcome place for people who keep strictly kosher to pick up a Challah or grab a Doughnut and Coffee on the way to work. And relative as in me pretending for an instant that all those years of religious Day School had actually kicked in and I was observant. In that other reality, this spot is 5 stars. But back in this one, I have way too many other options to compare this to, so it's just A-OK for me. read more

The food tastes good, smells and looks fresh. HOWEVER, eat at your own risk. I have witnessed first hand how disgusting that place really is. SOOOO UNSANITARY. I watched this lady grab a bagel squeeze it, examine it and then place it back in the basket for someone else to buy and eat. ( I told her what she did was nasty and to use those papers but she seemed unfazed) then I witness a father and his small child that obviously had a cold because his nose was running and he was coughing all over the exposed bagels and donuts. gross gross gross!!!' I was there yesterday March 15, 2022. I had eaten donuts from there one time previously this year and I thought they were the best donuts ever because the jelly doughnut and the Boston cream donut in particular were packed with so much filling. What a disappointment when I went yesterday. I am thinking that maybe the donuts were shaped like hamantaschen for Purim, but in this particular shape the jelly doughnut and the Boston cream donut had literally one bite of the jelly or the cream on the top of the donut and none at all inside. If you read any of my reviews there are very few bakeries. The reason: I have Celiac disease. When I eat Gluten I get a very, very unpleasant belly ache and other symptoms. I had a surprise guest coming over at 9AM and I did not know. I needed something to be a good host. Sesame is not far from my place so I hopped on the bus and made a quick trip. I decided on them because they are not far from Pomegranate (also reviewed by me). I could get pastries from Sesame and a quick shop at Pomegranate. I bought several of their donuts and a bially, holla roll, and a few other items. I have to admit, I tried the donuts. Best donuts I have ever had. They were sweet but not overpowering sweet. They tasted like flavors: chocolate, butterscotch, and cookie butter. I was quite amazed. My friend eat the savory rolls. I made the holla roll into french toast. Rave reviews. The bially looked decadent. I do not know if I will ever go back because I just cannot eat there "stuff". I recommend everyone who doesn't have an issue - this place is delicious. read more

I was looking for a place to buy breakfast and stumbled upon Sesame after seeing the delicious looking bagels in the window. For good or bad, Sesame is different than most bagel stores. They have self service bread (bagels, baguettes, rye, etc.) and pastries (danishes, cookies, etc.), and potato borekas. (This is kind of how Weiss' bakery on Avenue M sells their breakfast foods.) This means you pick the bagel and bring it to the counter. You then tell the employee what you want on your bread. I like that there are a sufficient amount of wax paper and tongs with which to pick your food up with. I bought whole wheat rolls toasted with butter, which were very delicious. I also got a cheese danish, which was the best I've EVER tried. Ever? Yes! I've been devouring cheese danishes since I was ten years old. Most that I've tried have a lot of bread and very little cheese. Not at Sesame! The danishes here have a good half an inch of cheese. Impressive! The coffee here is very good...and sweet. They are pre milked and sugared. The French vanilla was great! Also, my mother-in-law told me her friend swears by Sesame's challah bread. Prices here are decent. I paid about $5 for two whole wheat rolls with butter and one cheese danish. Service is quick too. You can be in and out in five minutes. read more

I purchased 6 items, but when I got home in Manhattan only 4 items were in my bag! I have been calling their listed phone number for 2 Days now and their mailbox is full, and no matter what extension I push I get the same message! NOBODY EVER ANSWERS THEIR PHONE!! HOW CAN YOU TUN A BUSINESS WITHOUT TAKING ORDERS OVER THE PHONE?? I need to speak to the woman at the register to find out if I can get a credit for the 2 items she left out of my bag! In my quest to find good prepared food in the area, I stumbled upon Sesame. The eggplant Parmesan caught my eye. It looked well prepared, and at $4.49 it seemed like a decent buy. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that it was delicious. Perhaps the best eggplant Parmesan I've ever had. They sell nice sized salads at nine dollars, they seem to be packed with a variety of nice veggies. The store is nicely designed and the employees are refreshingly friendly. The food is good but the customer service is non-existent, bordering on rude. As a customer I was made to feel wholly unwelcome, which is odd because you would think that a business would want somebody to spend money and feel welcome but this man couldn't be less interested in any of my questions and couldn't wait to ring me up and get me out of the door. I decided to stop by and check out the new bakery in the area. This place definitely needs to create labels for all their baked goods, it's really hard to tell what everything is. I decided to pick up a pastry to have for later, and really wanted the one with the raspberry filling. Came home to eat it later and the one I grabbed was blueberry. The pastry itself was good, but I would enjoy it more if it was the one I actually wanted. read more

I come here pretty often. There is no place I'd rather go to grab a egg and cheese wrap. Always fresh and made to perfection just the way I like it. They have freshly cut vegetable to choose from to put inside sandwiches. I'm glad they opened in this area. read more
