We were immediately offerred assistance with our bags, which we utilized since my wife can't lift anything heavy. Our room was perfect and spacious, with a nice little balcony. The Kilwin's chocolates were a nice little welcome surprise. The weather was unseasonably warm, so we actually spent a few hours at the pool and laying in one of the cabanas on the lake. It was super relaxing and a pleasant surprise. We expected the pool to be closed for the season already. The rest of the grounds on the lake side of the hotel were amazing. From the perfectly manicured bent grass lawn to the outdoor patio, everything was beautiful. The morning breakfast buffet was delicious. We particularly enjoyed the omelet station which had lots of ingredients to choose from. One morning, we treated ourselves to a couple's massage at the spa. The staff was very accommodating for my wife. It was my first time ever getting a massage an it was super relaxing! The whole Bay Harbor development around the hotel is kind of odd, with a fake downtown and what looks like an attempt to create a walkable residential area, yet it was missing key sidewalks to get around. Go to the nearby towns and explore. The Inn at Bay Harbor isn't going to be the cheapest option in the area, but it's one of the best if you want full amenities and a more luxurious up north experience (not usually my cup of tea, but it was fun to once). It's great for a special occassion or an anniversary getaway.

It also had a small gym, and a game room containing a billiards table. Once we finally got to the room we were so shocked. The room was massive and absolutely breath taking. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the sheets were super soft. The highlight was the outdoor patio. We got a room on the first floor. The patio came enclosed with heaters so that you can go out and look out at the lake and not freeze. During Christmas they put a Christmas tree on each patio. Very romantic and festive. Service is, by far, the number one thing about this place. The hotels beauty is obvious, but it only goes so far if the service isn't there. We loved every minute of our stay. The bartender in the evening was the best. We sat there for hours and just chatted. He was very personable, and fun to talk to. We also wanted to use the jacuzzi, so the front desk employee went, and opened it up for us even though it was freezing outside. They also let us stay 20 minutes past the hours of operation without question. There were many more things we didn't do like snow shoeing on the lake, but they offer many things for kids, families, or outdoor enthusiasts. Overall, this was probably one of the best vacations we have had. From the service to Amenities they checked every box. If you are looking for romance, or even a family get away then this place is a must. We also took advantage of the wineries in the area. They are still open in the winter. I wish I would of snapped more photos for all to see, but I was wanted to live in the moment and not technology. This place has won many awards as a top wine hotel in the country. When we arrived in the evening, the inside fireplace and outside fire pit were both burning. Sitting by the fire outside was so peaceful, keeping warm and looking at the stars while enjoying complimentary beverages- they always have tables in the lobby stocked with water, iced tea, coffee, and hot water for tea or cocoa. Our room was nice, nothing crazy luxurious but spacious and well appointed. The king bed was comfy and the shower pressure was better than at home! My dog loved the little patio space looking out onto the back lawn. I saw reviews talking up the breakfast- it was fine, good to great if you managed your expectations. There were 2 hot food options and the rest was a regular continental breakfast spread, albeit lots of options. Like one morning they had a French toast bake and scrambled eggs. But it's not a made to order diner or omlette bar or something. Still good and plenty filling for us so I'm not casting this as a negative at all. The grounds are nice as well but the nature trail was a bit muddy- but it was early May after some rain! We'd love to come back, as a weekend wasn't enough time to explore all the places nearby that we wanted. For those who have not become acquainted with Bay View Inn, staying here needs to become a hospitality first experience. Coming to the Bay View Inn was our fifth Petroskey experience. Last year we stayed at the Perry Hotel, so my wife and I have experienced the best of the best that Petoskey offers to vacationers. When comparing the Perry to the Bay View, the Perry offers travelers a moment of mid-late 18th century elegance while the Bay Inn takes you back to the Victorian Age with its degree of formalness. As you begin your Bay View experience one encounters the crispness and freshness of the pure Lake Michigan air. Upon entering the Bay View you are welcomed by Bobbie Jo's "very southern like" greeting or Corie who shows the politeness of a true gentleman. Ask either Bettie Jo or Corie anything about the Petoskey-Bayview area, in effect you end up getting walking tour guide for the next fews days. As for dining at the Bay View, all the menu items are outstanding with great flavor and particular attention to taste. Servers offer the best hospitality. You might also meet the most positive enthusiastic person in the Petoskey - Bayview area when you meet Christopher or the high spirit of Rita who is from Romania or the formalness of Tom as well as Andris who is also from Romania who is always there for you with a coffee refill. The rooms are extremely comfortable, Victorian-like styled rooms. One also has access to their library for borrowing a book or two from the library. Nightly entertainment also includes playing any number of games in the downstairs parlor. At night you sleep in the heavenly comfort of either a King or Queen bed. Daytime can be spent in a variety of ways. One can experience the best shopping district in the Midwest including what might be the best privately owned bookstore in Midwest, McLean & Eakin.... plan on making a few visits. For those who like fitness and touring the uniquely architected homes you must experience walking Lake Street to the top of the hill ... .two times.... or for fitness freaks like my wife and myself.... three times selecting a couple other streets. Your walk will be a more friendly "StairMaster" encounter. For flatlanders there is the multi mile bay walk where fresh air will clean out your lungs. So, instead of thinking about staying at the Bay View Inn, just do it.....staying at the Bay View Inn and experiencing Petoskey one be one of your best lifetime experiences.

He wasnt looking where he was going while facing uphill and ran right into her. The sharp back edge of his board cut her wide up open and left a deep bruise. It ruined our whole trip to michigan. Afterwards he refused to get snow patrol and was more interested in continuing his training session rather than helping my wife who was on the ground crying and in immense pain. He left and I had to help her myself even though she couldnt put any weight on her right leg. Hey patella tendon might be torn and she may never be able to snowboard again. I THINK THESE MORONS SAW SHES BLACK AND TREATED HER LIKE SHE SHOULDNT BE THERE. 2 days later and I cant get Boyne highlands to call me back or send me their insurance they have for their instructors. AVOID THIS PLACE COMPLETELY IF YOU THINK THE BOYNE MANAGEMENT WILL TAKE CARE OF THE DAMAGE THEY CAUSE YOU.

The lighting at night in the unit wasn't that great even with all of the switches on. The bathroom has seen better days as it looked like there has been water damage to the floor, wall, and ceiling. Front desk staff were nice and helpful. We would definitely stay again, but might choose a different unit.

Since the "renovations" the prices really increased. But the unit and building we stayed in didn't show any signs of improvement. The unit smelled of smoke, the furniture was well worn and needed replacement. The view was less than desirable, we could see part of the parking lot and the side of the hill just around the overgrown bushes. There were also large weeds and vines growing up thru the decking. Additionally the smell in the hallway leading to the condo less than pleasant. It smell like a mix of bad take out and rubbish. Sadly I think this will be our last stay at The Highlands.

There are several options for rooms including ones with balconies. The views were amazing and we enjoyed being able to walk down by the water. There is even a "Perry House" that you can rent. I'm sure that is not cheap but looked really great. They did everything right with this hotel. We were treated like royalty and really enjoyed our stay. I would absolutely come back!! We weren't here long enough!! Petoskey is definitely gorgeous and I absolutely will be visiting again this summer. Just a note, there is no refrigerator or microwave in the rooms and the hotel is relatively noisy. It's old so the floors creak. If there is a wedding going on (which there was) the music can be heard on all floors. There were noise machines in the room to help with this but if you're sensitive to that you may want to stay elsewhere. It was so worth it because the experience can't be duplicated!

We waited probably an hour for no reason, despite checking in with him multiple times. This was not ideal for our plan to get on the slopes. Other than that, we had an enjoyable stay.
