There are great hotels in the area do not choose the lowest of the low end hotel in the 100 mile radius. Michigan Inn & Lodge charge to much for shaby accommodations plus the owner over charges your card 200$ with your card information that was received upon checking in then after checking out, without a care with the owners ushering, when they choose to accuse any customers of having smoked cigarettes or any sort of smoking .. poof 200$ stolen.. oh plenty of beautiful places in Petoskey Michigan. Stay somewhere nice not the nasty hotel. I've learned from thus hotel and it's Owner.. Nasty Business. read more

Really nothing like what I was expecting for the amount of money this place cost. Super loud AC that barely works, bathroom the size of a closet with toilet paper that's like sand paper. The room is small. Looks clean enough, there is lots of free parking but I didn't feel safe. All these random young men walking around. Others barbqing in the back. Glad here only one night. Big mistake. Wish I'd booked elsewhere. Haven't had breakfast yet but not sure how everyone is supposed to fit in that small room I saw last night. I'll skip it. read more

We stayed here in April of 24 for 5 weeks for work. They had free food and decent service. Apparently they sold out. Not sure who owns it now but it is not the same place. No more free dinner and apparently their "maintenance man" works midnights. This was right above our room from 9pm until we were able to finally fall asleep with the noise still going on at 11pm. Then came back today to a cockroache in the shower! Front desk said they fumigated for them but they come out of the city sewers... in 20 years of construction with ALOT of travel I've never had a cockroach in a room. Highly recommend staying elsewhere. Checking out and staying elsewhere. My company will NEVER come back here. read more

We totally love this little inn.. we have already stayed maybe 5 times over the period of 2 years.. they have amazing beds, mostly sleep number with adjustable foot and head portions.. they give meals whole day, mostly frozen which you can heat up at your convenience in your room anytime, there are other non frozen meals as well like chips and stuff.. frozen has ice creams, pizza, chimichangas and all.. they also run complimentary haircuts which due to COVID I believe they've stopped for now, but still available at a discounted rate.. The inn is surrounded by most big hotel chains but we always go for this one because of their warmth and small town feeling.. we totally adore this inn! read more

This struck us as a unique situation to stay here. The reviews were all over the place and the same with the pictures. First, yes, you do get temperpedic beds. BUT the sheets pop right off the corners the moment you adjust the bed. So plan to sleep on a plastic mattress protector instead of a sheet, because your sheet will not fit the bed when adjusted. The breakfast is beyond bizarre. Little servings of home made soups, frozen pizzas, tortilla chips and bread in ziplock bags. The hand soap, shower gel and shampoo are all the same. read more

My husband and I had booked 2 nights at this hotel in anticipation of our vacation. My husband was unexpectedly diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. We had to cancel our trip due to scheduling of biopsies and treatment. We cancelled the reservation within the correct time frame. We were denied a full refund even though we had already paid for the room and bought the travel insurance. We provided documentation of his diagnosis and treatment dates. Treatment is in St. Louis, MO not physically possible to be in 2 places at once. The need for immediate treatment overroad a vacation. Will never stay there again. Better rooms in other hotels in Petosky. read more

Stayed here because we were checking out Boyne Mountain and Boyne Highlands. This place is in a small town that has a lot to offer. People were super nice and was clean. The place is pet friendly, however, does not really have much of grass for the dog. The place serves free food for breakfast and during the day which is amazing. You would think that the selection would just be a continental breakfast but the selection was not bad. The rooms had a fridge and microwave. Overall the stay was pleasant and quiet. No problems and would definitely stay there again. read more

My husband and I have stayed here a number of times, and have always enjoyed it, but not so much this time. My husband made reservations online and when we got there he asked if we could have a room on the ground floor as I had just had surgery on my foot and was having a hard time walking with the big walking boot that my surgeon had me wearing. The gal at the counter refused to change up our room and insisted that we had to take the room that he had reserved on the second floor. When my husband made the reservations he had no idea how difficult it would be for me to walk. There was absolutely no compassion or empathy shown. There is no elevator. The stairs are not real safe looking and there is only one side with a handrail. After making our way up the difficult stairs it was to discover that our room (you know.......the very last one at the end of the walkway) was not ready for occupants. We were not very happy. We made our way back down to the office and demanded to know why she would give us a room that was not ready and she said "they never tell me when the rooms are ready". Really? Wouldn't you think that if you are going to give keys to a room you should make sure that the room was ready. I insisted she give us a ground floor room for the inconvenience. She insisted she couldn't because we had reserved online. I insisted on speaking to a manager and was told that she was the only one onsite. I told her she better get a manager on the phone and get it taken care of. She admitted that they were not full and that since there were vacancies she could give us a room on the ground floor. I honestly don't see what the big deal was. They weren't full and could easily give us a different room. The room we ended up with was decent enough. I don't really want to complain too much about the cleanliness, as it looked okay on the surface, but there was something on one of the cloth chairs that I tried to wipe off with a white washcloth and it came away black. I didn't sit on that chair without a towel on the seat for the entire trip. Halfway thru the night we heard a big crash from the room next to us and found out in the morning that the headrest on one of the beds fell off. We also observed two other couples going into the office to complain that their rooms weren't ready either. This was after five o'clock in the afternoon. All of the personnel that we observed in the office and dining area were wearing sweats and I saw one worker walking thru the dining area eating a cookie. Pretty unprofessional if you ask me. we have been coming up here for maybe 20 years. This Presidents Day weekend is as wonderful as ever! Room 300 is huge, Clean and has a king size Cloud to sleep on. The canteen is brimming with hot soup and enumerable extras, Coffee, goooooooooood coffee, milk, ice cream, you name it. All for the taking from early morning big breakfast to 6:00 p.m. Affordable clean rooms but book early, they are always busy and packed. they allow pets too! In all my life I have never been treated as poorly by a hotel receptionist as I was at The Michigan Inn in Petoskey. Check-in went fine but when I got to my room the TV wouldn't turn on. I called the front desk on the hotel phone - no answer. So I used my cell to call the hotel and it was answered right away. I told the guy my tv wouldn't turn on and after asking me if I was using the remote (???) he sullenly said he'd try to find me another remote. 30 minutes later no one had come to my room, so I walked back to reception. Same guy accused me of giving him the wrong room number and said he had come to the room but one was there. Whatever... he made a mistake. I handed him my remote and asked if he could replace the batteries. He threw pack of batteries on the counter and said "you do it ". The remote was taped together with electrical tape so I asked him again to take care of it. Back and forth ensued and ended with him tearing off the tape,replacing the batteries, throwing it back on the counter and telling me to "get the fuck out of here before I call the cops". Absolutely insane response from someone manning the front desk of a hotel. I don't know how this guy still has a job. Worst hotel experience I've ever had. If I could give this place zero stars I would. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. VERY disappointed! We stayed in the Petoskey location. First & foremost, they advertise to have handicap accessible rooms. They have one... ONE! with only a single bed! Now how many handicap people would travel without a caretaker! My dad is in a wheelchair most of the time & only has 1 leg until he gets a prosthetic. So we did get a 1st floor room but no ramp to get up the stoop. The space between the furniture & the bathroom BARELY fit his walker. Thus made an already difficult medical trip even harder! The room was okay, but the filth & crud in the bathroom, along walls etc. Was disturbing. There was no remote to work the TV & the one given to me by the front desk was smashed to pieces, literally handed to me in 2 pieces with a smile on her face as if this is normal. Not even a coffee pot in the room & for the price ($125 a night) we should have been able to at least make coffee. ​ We had no wash rags in the bathroom. The towels we did have were so coated in bleach they were stiff life sand paper. I have never been one to be super picky about a hotel room. As long as it's clean & I have my necessities I'm a happy traveler. This was NOT it! If we paid $50-65 for the room I would expect what we got. But to pay $125 for the bull we dealt with.... Spend your money elsewhere! read more

Stayed here last month for 2 nights, it was a very unpleasant experience. Upon check-in there was what looked like a disappointed customer that was arguing with staff in the lobby. When we checked in we asked if we could upgrade our room/and or be next to our friends that were traveling with us and were told that we could do nothing with the Inn directly as we booked through booking.com I found that to be a very lame response as we always use that sight and have never been told by the actual property that we couldn't make "any" changes. The room was dirty (my brand new white socks were filthy just after walking around the room that evening) and our friends "non smoking room" reeked of smoke, they said they had to air out their luggage when they got home. Do not be tempted by the free food, it's like eating at a gas station only worse. Probably one of our worst hotel experiences except for maybe a Knights Inn when I was in my 20's. read more

The best part about this place is the all day open snack room (from 6am) and all of the snacks are free. Our rooms were average at the Inn, we each had 2 double full sized beds, that old nasty comforter I dislike in hotel rooms, an all-in-one room with the microwave, fridge, lock and TV over a stand. The bathroom was in the general room as well, except for the shower and the toilet. The counter was cheap cream colored formica, my sink was made of plastic, my BF's was at least a porcelain sink. The bathroom had a timer up to an half hour for the light and fan, that was fun to use, especially when it cut out after 5 minutes during my shower (lights as well), when I had set it for an half an hour. This place is disgusting..chair was covered in dust, floor under the bed, was not cleaned, shower and shower curtain was filthy..rim inside of toilet was black with mold or ???.. Husband said his side of the bed had a bad smell...In the dinning area the warming pots had old caked on food..There was food spilled on the front of waste containers..They obviously had not cleaned them from the day before or maybe even longer..When we complained about the dust, spiders and shower, they dusted and changed shower curtain..but no attention to toilet or the other filth..There excuse was " its an old building" old is not an excuse for dirt and grime ..Weve stayed in many "OLD" buildings but they were spotlessly clean. read more

The rooms are very nice, clean, and comfortable; they offer a cafe to guests where you can find just about any snack you've got your heart set on, as well as some fresh fruit and veggies; and a few hot options too (the chili is SO good). Breakfast offerings were beyond the general continental options you're accustomed to from larger chains. And then there's the staff... They were lovely! Staying @Michigan Inn for 5 days over Christmas. On day 3 of 5 & absolutely loving it. Can't beat the price, and all the complimentary cafeteria food to indulge from 6am - 10pm. I went hard daily on both the deluxe chili & white chicken chili to combat this iceberg weather condition in Northern Michigan. Service is friendly. Rooms come with flat screen TV with plenty HD channels, blue ray DVD player with NetFlix, Amazon TV, HULU, & other streaming apps; free Wi-Fi; oh and the property offers free haircuts til 6pm (say what?!?! They have a hair salon on site). Hotel is walking distance to movie theater & Walmart. And if you feel the itch, free shuttle service to Odawa casino. All that for $60 bucks a night. My hubs and I ended up stayed at MIL during our wedding weekend, as well as a good chunk of our wedding guest. We had previously stayed here, prior to our wedding and choose this location because of the cost and what they had to offer. It sits pretty close to the water. If you get lucky enough to stay on the second floor, facing away from the office, you will have a great view of the lake and trees. Since we had a lot of out-of-towners, I was in charge of booking all of the rooms. I must've called over 10 times and never felt as though I was being a bother to the office staff. This was comforting, since the whole wedding planning thing was a tad stressful. Everyone that stayed here for our wedding weekend, was pretty satisfied but was very impressed with the cafe. You really can't beat a free cafe that offers free meals from 6 am until 10 pm.(your room key is needed to enter). They usual have several hot items in the morning (scrambled eggs, sausage, gravy, chili (random), soup), as well as a waffle grill, toast, biscuits, english muffins, hard boiled eggs, cereal, coffee, juice, frozen food items stored in a small freezer, chips, and other goodies. The only catch is you must eat the food there, unless the room is full. Then, you could just grab a tray and take it back to your room. The one down side was the patrons staying there. A few people told me they had a hard time sleeping because of people running across the hall, as well as there being many bikers (being loud) past 10 pm. My hubs and I didn't encounter that, but I did notice quite a bit of bikers. My hubs and I stayed in both the Inns and Lodge and to my understanding, I thought the Lodge was going to be bigger in size, but the only main difference between the rooms were a bigger sized t.v. and a few more pillows on each bed. If I were to do it over, I would've sticked with the Inn. The rooms were kept pretty clean and each room has a fridge, microwave, and a safe. If you forgot your shampoo or soap, they have both attached to the bathtub/shower. I didn't take advantage of this, but they do have a salon on the bottom floor and do give free hair cuts! I overheard the front desk staff tell a patron, there is a licensed cosmetologist/esthetician (?) that cuts hair. They also have DVDs you can rent, as well as grabbing a bag of free popcorn in the front office...and cookies! read more

I wish we had discovered this quirky, delightful place our first night in Petosky. The first thing I noticed was a sign saying 'Free Haircuts for Hotel Guest's. Whaaaaaat? Our room wasn't ready So, why not? Kevin did a nice cut on both of us. Next - free breakfast, lunch and dinner. The self-service cafe had a ton of fresh and frozen choices. Four soups & chili, salads, Cole slaw, potato salad, pot pies, eggs, hot dogs, cereal - you name it, they have it. And videos - .99 WITH POPCORN! -$25 for 2 haircuts -$20 for food $96 room & tax The comes to $51 The room - so comfortable! The bed, I can't remember the brand, had the ability to raise the head, foot and vibrant. The room was newly renovated with lots of lighting options and a wall mounted t.v. The hotel is a bit south of town close to the casino. Free shuttle to the Odawa Casino. I loved Michigan Inn and the staff. I hope to go back to Petrosky and wouldn't stay anywhere else. read more

Bang for your buck is the reason this simple, overachieving inn earns five stars from this reviewer. It's not fancy, but you won't find a more accommodating place to stay, even in rooms at triple the price. For around 80 bucks a night, taxes and all, we had a February weekend stay in a room, with adjustable electric beds (very comfortable), that was clean, and quiet. An in room fridge was convenient, and a safe was a nice feature. The property offers free food all day long. There is a gym, and they even offer free haircuts at the on site salon! Staying in Petoskey? Save a buck here, and have enough left in the budget for a great dinner at one of the many terrific downtown eateries. This just became my go to place up here! read more

This place was a great value for the price. Beds with adjustable head and foot elevations, and massage function were very comfortable. Room was clean and cozy. There was a refrigerator and coffee pot in room What was really awesome was the snack bar which is included in the price of your stay and is open 6am-10pm. There was a little something for everybody. I decided to stay here after seeing decent reviews. It is definitely a good value for the money -- especially if you have a AAA card. The room was clean, and I thought that soap & shampoo dispensers in the bathroom were a good idea. However, the bathroom light switch was a really odd timed thing. Fine for turning on, but if you like to turn off the light when you leave the room, you have to press the button many times before it goes off. The website does indicate which rooms are on the 2nd floor and that they're only accessible by stairs, but it does not say that it's an outside walk-up and that rooms open up to the outside. I'm always a bit nervous about that kind of arrangement, although the second floor does make it feel a bit safer.And if you are near the front of the building, you will hear the traffic. The idea of the free cafe is a nice touch, but as others have said, it's almost all junky food. But, the soups are pretty good, and there are some salads and fruit options. Still, I wouldn't plan on a meal there unless you're really broke or starving. Although they do mention discounts for Twitter accounts, they also offer AAA discounts. He had one part right, I am disgruntled. I assure everyone that I am not an employee, former employee and have never met nor do I know the owner management or any of the staff. This is such an easy way to dismiss a poor review. I was really excited to stay because everything seemed so unique, the food was really cool and the beds..we were looking foward to haircuts and my mom booked them, they told us 10:30, when we arrived she had cancelled them. She was really rude and said I called your room, so I said they told us 10:30 not 10. Anywho we just left and it ruined it for us. The rooms were dirty, at least our walls were filthy black handprints, I don't know how those got there. Then finally, when asking about our situation at the salon I get an extremely unprofessional email regarding Jessica and our salon experience. Really, be mature and run your business responsibly. This is a motor lodge. I am writing this review based on the premise it is not an upscale hotel. You will park your car outside your front door. With that in mind, I can say it is the finest motor lodge I have ever stayed in. Very clean room, freshly painted, very good if not excellent mattress. Very good pillows with 5 pillows per bed. Added bonus of being an adjustable mattress. The room comes with what you would expect. Good lighting in the room. Convenient location near major chains and to the downtown area. The cafeteria food was ok, nothing great. But it is complimentary. The soup was very good! One in our group took advantage of the free haircut. He did it as a lark but he came away proud of the haircut. What makes this place stand above is how nice the people are.very polite and helpful! I would definitely stay here again! read more

We stay here whenever we go to the tip of the mitt. Nice staff, free cafeteria, allows dogs and pretty centralized. Rooms are decent sized with a large flat screen tv, blue ray player, free wifi, microwave, fridge, table, desk, and tons of pillows on the bed. What more do you want right? I'm a big supporter of independent businesses and prefer to give my money to the little guy than a huge conglomerate. This place has great standards for not being a known chain. I reserved our room at the Michigan Inn & Lodge based on their rates being lower than many Petoskey hotels. I wasn't thrilled with our stay. The staff smoke right outside the front door on their breaks. For a nonsmoker, this is a big turnoff. After we checked in, I discovered a dirty wet towel from the previous guest that was left behind by housekeeping. Yuck. There is an envelope for the room expressly for leaving a tip for the housekeeper, which I found very tacky. Yes, the cafe is free and open late. But most of what is offered is frozen or processed food. Personally, I'd rather spend the money and go to a restaurant, where I can get a decent meal. I hope to return to the Petoskey area, but won't be staying here again if I do. read more

The management here is unaware of the meaning of hotel management. Despite calmly and professionally requesting a phone call to discuss two potentially injurious mishaps during my stay, after not receiving that call, and while making the connection myself to discuss the issues, I was met with belligerence, defensiveness and an outright fabrication about my demeanor with the desk staff. Pretty disgusting. No apology, no sense of contrition whatsoever on the potentially injurious incidents. Very poorly run and I fully expect there will be lawsuits when the potential for injuries are actually realized. And they will be. Don't let it be you. read more

We just literally walked into our room maybe 10 minutes ago. Gross. I should have known better by the looks of the "lobby." It just feels dirty. I may be sleeping on top of the bedding tonight. There is older banged up furniture in the room. Scuffs on the walls and gross dirty old grout in the toilet/shower area. If you are staying more than one night and want/need new sheets or towels, you have to gather it all up, put it in a bag and lay it outside your room. Don't know what happens after that. There are no elevators to get to the second floor. We peeked into the "cafe" when we first entered the building. They have prepackaged food and drinks, but you cannot take it back to your room. I guess I didn't realize it when I booked the inn that it had no indoor hallways. The inn was within our budget. I guess we will see how it goes over the next two days. Yikes! read more
