We had a great weekend at Crooked River Lodge and it was so nice to be able to bring our dog with us! The hotel is so nice yet rustic inside, really a log cabin style feeling. When we arrived in the evening, the inside fireplace and outside fire pit were both burning. Sitting by the fire outside was so peaceful, keeping warm and looking at the stars while enjoying complimentary beverages- they always have tables in the lobby stocked with water, iced tea, coffee, and hot water for tea or cocoa. Our room was nice, nothing crazy luxurious but spacious and well appointed. The king bed was comfy and the shower pressure was better than at home! My dog loved the little patio space looking out onto the back lawn. I saw reviews talking up the breakfast- it was fine, good to great if you managed your expectations. There were 2 hot food options and the rest was a regular continental breakfast spread, albeit lots of options. Like one morning they had a French toast bake and scrambled eggs. But it's not a made to order diner or omlette bar or something. Still good and plenty filling for us so I'm not casting this as a negative at all. The grounds are nice as well but the nature trail was a bit muddy- but it was early May after some rain! We'd love to come back, as a weekend wasn't enough time to explore all the places nearby that we wanted. Nois, seems to be little sound insulation between rooms. Room above started pounding across floor above at 5:30 AM, not our chosen time to wake. No longer serves a protein (no eggs or meat, no breakfast sandwich) with the so called hot breakfast so we should have paid the extra for a hotel that does and saved our thirty dollar a day breakfast cost. They do have kayaks for use but no canoes. read more

**Absolutely Horrible Experience -- Beware of the "Dog-Friendly" Claim** This hotel is an absolute joke. I booked this hotel **MONTHS in advance** specifically because I needed a dog-friendly place for myself, my children, and out-of-state guests to stay the night after my wedding. I did my research beforehand and chose this property because it **advertises itself as dog-friendly**. What a joke. My check-in time was **almost 7 PM**. The entire day was already gone, and I was simply arriving for the night after my wedding. I had my 4-pound dog with me, and after spending the day celebrating my wedding, I expected to check into the room I had booked months ago and go to bed. Instead, I informed the front desk that I had my dog with me and was told that if I brought my dog into the room, the **police would be called**. Yes. You read that correctly. At nearly **7 PM**, after I had already spent the entire day elsewhere, I was being threatened with police involvement over a **4-pound dog** at a hotel that advertises itself as dog-friendly. Apparently, according to management, you have to somehow know that you need to call in advance and make a "special reservation" for a dog-friendly room. **That requirement is not clearly disclosed in the way this hotel advertises its pet policy.** In fact, their own website states that if you stay in a non-dog-friendly room with a dog, you can simply pay a **$50 fee**. So which is it? If there is a separate reservation process for "dog-friendly" rooms, then perhaps the hotel should make that crystal clear **before taking someone's reservation and their money**. The entire situation was handled horribly, and the manager and front desk staff were unbelievably rude, condescending, and completely unwilling to find a reasonable solution. There was no attempt to work with me. No reasonable conversation. Just threats and attitude. And the irony is almost laughable: **there were multiple dogs staying at the hotel.** Meanwhile, I'm being threatened with the police over a 4-pound dog after I had just gotten off a boat from a marina **three miles down the road**. And let's talk about the hotel itself. The carpet looks like it is **older than I am**. It is not charming, quaint, or historic -- it is simply old, dingy, and repulsive. Frankly, given the condition of the property, the outrage over my tiny dog was almost comical. This was supposed to be a simple overnight stay after my wedding. I had booked months ahead of time, arrived at nearly 7 PM when the day was already over, and simply wanted to go to my room for the night. Instead, management turned it into an unnecessarily hostile and completely ridiculous experience. **I would strongly recommend that nobody waste their money staying here.** There are plenty of hotels that are actually welcoming to their guests and honest about their policies. This place is neither. The way management handled this situation was completely unacceptable. **I would never give this hotel or its management another dollar of my money, and I strongly suggest you don't either.** read more

This just shot to the top of my list of favorite northern Michigan places to stay. We needed a peaceful getaway, and decided to try this place, since we wanted to be in the Petoskey area. It way exceeded our expectations. Staff was so accommodating, extremely friendly. The breakfast area offered more than we are used to seeing, including hot foods (the bacon and sausages were very tasty!), and the usual waffles, bagels, danish, cereals, fruit, juices, etc. There's coffee, iced tea & ice water out 24/7. You can grab it on your way to/from the pool & hot tub, also 24/7. We loved the warm family feel of the place, and sat in the huge lobby by the fire with coffee after breakfast. When we went back to our room, it had already been cleaned & freshened. There's so much for families. There's fishing poles, skis, sports balls available in the lobby to take out & use to wear the kids out. In better weather, you can kayak. There's the cutest hideaway for little ones under the gorgeous log stairs where they can play & color. Above it, there's a playroom for bigger kids/adults with a pool table, games, etc. The whole lobby - and staff - is so very welcoming. We had a 2 room suite, which is really spacious, and feels like you have a whole house to yourself. It's very clean, well tended to. Some of the furniture is starting to age, but still useful, clean and pretty. There are 3 TVs in it. After 4 nights, we still didn't want to go home. We can't wait to go back. read more

The cutest, most comfortable and most relaxing hotel out there. This hotel eludes a sense of calm and peace. So many personalized touches- lit Christmas trees on the walking path, peaceful music in the lobby, a fire in the lobby and outside at night. This hotel was pure Michigan perfection. Normally when we leave a hotel for a quick overnight stay I don't bat an eye but I will be truly sad to leave this haven. Staff were helpful and friendly. Rooms were clean. Beds were comfortable. We absolutely loved it here!!! This is our third overnight trip to petoskey in the last few months and this by far was the best hotel out there. Couldn't recommend staying here more. I can only imagine how beautiful it is in the summer and fall. read more

Fake log cabin looking place charges $300 plus on a weekday and never calls customer back to answer a question? People that worked there were nice, breakfast was pretty good,( even tipped the nice lady that set it up ). We had a wonderful stay here! Called at 1 on the day of check in to see if we could come an hour early and were told that would be fine by Vicky! She went out of her way to make things right for us at a nearby restaurant too! Staff was awesome! Everyone was quite friendly and knowledgeable about things to do around the city! Breakfast was great each day! Very clean and well maintained lodge! Loved that we could go kayaking for free! If you have kids under 18, you should definitely take them out on the river! Although we didn't utilize the adult hours at the pool, it was nice to have that option! It was nice to see that the laundry was free for guests! Enjoyed talking with a couple of teens and their grandma at the fire pit! We will definitely come back!! read more

I was recently in Petoskey for a book event and I stayed at the Crooked River Lodge. It was really nice. - The staff was friendly and though we couldn't check in early, held our luggage and took it to the room for us. - The room was large and spacious with high ceilings. - The view was gorgeous from the balcony in our room. - There was a bon fire at night outdoors. - The complimentary breakfast was delicious. - Ample parking though the hotel was full. - I saw there were pet friendly rooms available. - Free Wi-Fi that ACTUALLY WORKED in the room. I would recommend anyone stay here if traveling in the area. It was a wonderful stay. read more

If you don't want to have fun and experience the rudest staff ever this is your place. The manager Vickey is extremely rude and should not be allowed to interact with the public. We were there with a baseball team that spent a lot of money at that hotel and we were told by the owner he didn't care. Vickey is beyond vile and rude. The walking trail is overgrown and bug ridden and you cannot fish in the advertised fishing pond. Horrible experience. read more

This hotel is under new ownership and has started out creating bad feelings immediately! Our group has spent a long weekend at this hotel for a number of years. Many of us received an email identifying a lower rate for Sundays-Thursdays as well as amenities to be added for these days. Since our group is staying Friday- Monday the Sunday evening should be at the discounted rate. Upon calling I was told that others who called to reserve rooms after us were provided the lower rate and amenities, however since we booked in September and October of 2023 we would not be provided the same courtesy. Our group usually booked the entire hotel. I explained my displeasure and proceded to review this hotel on line. This hotel has been recently purchased and it appears it is starting off on the wrong foot. We booked in good faith, not knowing what the weather would provide. We work as a group through our club and requested our club representative request information. He was told to have each person who booked a room to call, however upon the first call the front desk cannot assist. These promotional rates and amenities are "taken". As previously stated we booked months ago and should be provided this courtesy of lower rate and amenities. I am waiting for a response for someone to address this terrible customer service. read more

So me and my girlfriend take off every winter for a couple getaway weekends. We have always travelled to a different destination in the northern lower peninsula. We've drove past the Crooked River Lodge a number of times and have really admired the look of the lodge. So this weekend we took the plunge and stayed here. This place is really neat! From walking in and being greeted warmly by the staff to the ambiance. It feels so much less then a hotel here. The lobby is like a huge living room with a huge fireplace and comfy furniture. Off to the side is a large breakfast room with the usual fixins. The sausage gravy and biscuits were very good and for a first a hotel with hash lol Above the lobby area is a loft with pool, chess and other games. A computer and loads of books, and a big TV and more comfy couches. The pool is nice, and even has a waterfall. The pool and hot tub goes adult only after 9pm and is open all night. We stayed in room 301. Cathedral ceiling, kitchenette, and hot tub. It also has a balcony, as all the rooms do. It was a very nice room, rustic in design and frankly one of the nicest rooms I have ever stayed in. There is even a journal for people to write about their stay. Just another indication that this isn't your usual hotel. We've always done different places but we'll definitely be back here again. Did I mention the popcorn? read more

This is one of my favorite hotels in Northern Michigan. It is part of the Stafford group of hotel so you just know it's going to be good. The hotel has a nice rustic feel with lost of pine furnishings. There is a nice gas fire pit outside with plenty of seating. They also have a nice fire place and big seating area inside too. The staff is awesome. Haley was very helpful and even went out of her way to save me a few buck too!!! There is plenty to do here year around. They have snowmobiles for rent in the winter, paddle boats in the summer. A large indoor pool and hot tub too. You are also only minutes from Petosky or Pellston. read more

We really enjoyed our stay here. We stayed in the deluxe king suite with two bedrooms. Very roomy and very clean. We had a wonderful view of the river. The staff is very helpful and kind. I was very impressed with the breakfast too. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and hot, the bacon was cooked perfectly and the selection of breads, cereals, oatmeal's and juices was really great. The staff at this beautiful lodge setting were beyond friendly and accommodating. They are available at the front desk 24/7 and we're happy to help us checkout at 5am. They have kayaks on the property and life jackets for the guests to enjoy. Our rooms sliding door opened directly to the patio with a beautiful view of the creek...which becomes a lake. The night sky was fantastic for star gazing as you don't have "light pollution" to spoil the stars. Outdoor patio furniture and fire pit make a great spot for visiting with friends. read more

One of the friendliest staffs at a hotel that I have stayed at. Not much in the area to do in the winter unless you like snow sports, but they make it a very comfortable stay. Could use new shower heads and newer upgraded TV sets, and thats about it. Great breakfast every morning, and it doesn't matter how many people are staying that night they go all out. I was leery of this hotel when my company made the reservations, as I'd never heard of it. However, I was pleasantly surprised after I checked in. The hotel is modern, bright, on a very nice property. The rooms are large, comfortable, and modern with large flat screen tvs and a nice balcony complete with chairs. There is a big lawn in the back which abuts the river. The hotel owns kayaks which are free to use for hotel guests. There is also a nature trail which I hope to run tomorrow. Oh, the large indoor pool and hot tub are clean and have a nice area to sit. Outside there are lounge chairs and umbrellas to enjoy the surroundings. The only thing I don't like, and it's minor, is that the room has cups instead of mugs and glasses. Overall, this is a great place to stay. read more

I found this hotel comfortable and functional with attractive public spaces and outdoor areas. My bed was extremely comfortable and I enjoyed the room configuration. The breakfast, however, was very disappointing for a Stafford's property. Totally lacking was anything healthy other than hard boiled eggs. There was no oatmeal without sugar and only very small packets of that. And tiny little cups of granola doesn't cut it for breakfast. We were cycling and felt at least there should be some steel cut or old fashioned oats in a crock pot. Also, the fruit was all over ripe or wrinkled. Very disappointing for a Stafford's! So bring your healthy options for breakfast with you and also ask for a replacement to the tattered shower curtains that are to short! Still I'd stay again. read more

A very clean and beautiful lodge. Our room was spacious, very clean and pretty. The view from our balcony was pretty and relaxing. My husband and our 16 year old son enjoyed playing pool in the Loft. And the sweet little sitting area by the elevator on the second floor was just so perfect and welcoming. So cute. Lots of extras to offer. Breakfast good. The one night we decided to order food in and watch tv their satellite went out. I thought that they should have paid for our food because we would have gone out. Biggest complaint was noise from the washroom above. Really loud. Also sun streaming in the cute little back door was not pleasant at the crack of dawn. Oh wait, and the shower curtain. I'm a big lady and they had a standard shower curtain bar which meant I showered with the curtain touching me the entire time. Come on everyone has curved ones now. All of this was too bad because it wasn't cheap. read more

All I can saw is WOW! My husband found this place online. We were looking for a nice hotel to stay at with our two young kids to give us a little rest and relaxation before a weeklong camping trip. This place offered just that, and more. Our kids loved the indoor pool and water fall. The free popcorn and bonfire pit out back were also a big hit. Beautiful sunrise view from our balcony. Spent 4 nights with my husband, dad, and step-mom without prior recommendations. This hotel/lodge is part of a small chain of better-than-ok hotels and restaurants. The bed had a dip in the middle, and the breakfasts were terrible. These deficiencies would have been easier to overlook if we weren't paying high season rates and they hadn't promised more comfort than the Days Inn down the street. The property as a whole was nice and located in a charming little burg very convenient for our plans (Pictured Rocks, Tehquamenon Falls, Bay Harbor, Mackinac, Castle Farms). The staff was very eager and friendly. Reservations, check-in, and check-out was confidence inspiring. Just a few rough edges in the guest experience. read more

This place is great. My family (wife and three kids, 7 and under) have visited about three or four times now. We love it! Great, large rooms. Great northern feel with pine log accents and stone. Awesome, huge lawn with balls and games to play with. Fish pond. Kayaks and paddle boats (my five-year-old loved seeing minnows, frogs, and turtles from the paddle boat). Awesome outdoor firepit that is lit with natural gas (always on). Great pool - large and with a little water fall. Was nice and warm too. Great breakfast. Love the lobby balcony area with pool and other games. Just an awesome lobby with vaulted ceilings. Easy parking. Easy to find. The place is perfect for enjoying Northern Michigan. We visited Mackinac Island, St. Ignace, Paradise, Charlevoix, Cross Village, and Whitefish Point. Really a great time every time we visit and so much to do and explore.
