When I was handling claims out in Western, MA I used to stop here on the way up or down for a coffee and a pastry or something. In the winter, I filled up a cup of chicken soup from their steaming crockpot. And it was always a fun stop on Route 8 heading back from a day of shopping at the Lee Outlets. But it's all over now, Baby Blue. The Otis Poultry Farm is closing its doors after 12 decades. Congrats on a great run. Attractive signage made us stop over and get some Fresh eggs while we were driving through the backroads of MA. On just entering the place I could tell this was pretty run down. The place is huge and carries a variety of stuff, but they did not look fresh and there was a sad feel all around. The checkout staff was also very non communicative, and did not feel very welcomed. Quiet a let down from the excitement with which we approached it. read more

I usually get the chicken pot pies with vegetables for over a month now but he's going to be selling so my chicken pot pie option won't be available for too much longer. Recently when I went in he was out of stock and told me it would be two or three weeks before he gets more in, so I just picked up the larger ones. You can't beat his pot pies. There's also wine, beer and liquor, some dairy and of course eggs and moccasins. There is also candy and potato chips and touristy items. read more

We were in search of a capon for an additional entree for Xmas dinner. Called everywhere even small organic markets. OPF was our only option. This place has gone down hill badly since it's glory days. It looks like a combo flea market, chochkey, tourist crap shop. The coolers are full of junk. The clerk, older guy, was very rude and sarcastic. We asked where the capons were from and he snapped," I get them" Not an unreasonable question, just wondering if it was local, organic or what. The homemade bread and the homemade fudge is spectacular... I live in Westfield and go there weekly just to get those items.

The Otis poultry farm store, or as I like to call it, Otis Chickens, because of the big cartoon chicken signs on the road leading to it, is on the route I drive between my family's house in CT and where I live in NY, so I've passed by many times and stopped for a snack. I only wish it was closer to where I live so I could come here more often. It's a full-fledged grocery store with lots of homemade pies, breads, cookies, jars of fruit spreads, honey, jugs of maple syrup, and candy. They have their own soda, and it's the only place I've found sasparilla in a long time. I've never gotten any eggs here, but the sign on the front door says, "There are 25,000 chickens within 100 feet of this door, so please excuse the smell." So I bet they'd be fresh. There's also a huge selection of wine and some other groceries, non-perishable stuff. Even if you don't stop in, go for the giant chicken signs... Perhaps I'm missing something but I'm not sure how this place stays open. While visiting in the area we stopped in to get eggs and milk and shortly after entering I thought we entered a flea market. The one set of coolers was filled with chips. There was a used treadmill across from the eggs and dairy case. I gave two stars because it's, well I'm betting it was, once a nice place. read more

This place is awesome and its only about 10 mins from the Lee, MA exit. I grabbed a variety of things to try as it was my first time there and I only had limited cooler space since I didn't exactly plan on stopping. They have a large selection of eggs, chicken/turkey pot pies, cheeses, whole chickens, chicken nuggets, soup, perogies, bacon, sausage. They are open year round but they have a restaurant and more items in the summer season. If you are in the area make sure to stop and BRING A COOLER to stock up. read more

I've been coming here since I was a little kid and it's still fun as an adult. As a kid, I would buy little toys and rubberband guns. As an adult, I buy the chicken pot pies, regular pies and cookies. Delicious and entertaining for kids and adults alike! I love this place. It's a great little stop for a snack. I have been going to this farm store for over 25 years. It is convenient and although expensive has a little bit of anything you might need. One would expect that their bakery would be home baked goods that would be fresh and delicious . Well.... every baked item from bread to cookies to a pie was the worst I have ever had. And pricey. I don't mind paying more for fresh baked goods, but when the cookies are hard as a rock even though they have not reached their expiration date, the bread is like a brick and the blueberry pie is made from caned pie filling...... you might as well buy commercially produced items from wonder bread and table talk. We also purchased some eggs and cheese - they were good but it is pretty hard to mess up eggs. The store needs to get rid of the baked goods entirely or use a different vendor. I will never purchase anything from the bakery area from this store again. Too bad, as it used to be a draw to the store........... read more

The Otis Poultry Farm will always hold a place in my heart. When I was a wee little one, my grandparents would take me here for a candy treat, and I loved to look at the chicken coops and the kitschy stuff inside. Thirty some years later it doesn't look as well taken care of, but I still love to stop when I am in the area. The store itself is packed with all kinds of goodies. Baked goods, eggs (of course), free range chickens, toys, you name it. It reminds me of a general store of days gone by. It's really a great place to take children, and even adults will get a kick out of it. read more

Our family enjoys making a pit stop at this store during our Sunday drives from Connecticut. I love the illustrations and humor of the chicken signs. They have a small cafe inside, but we've never eaten here. They also have a public restroom, which is great when traveling with kids! We usually grab a trail mix type snack and something to drink. But they do have a lot to offer, such as wine, groceries, quirky kitchen utensils, novelty key chains & magnets, Otis souvenir clothing, self-serve coffee, sugar-free candy, baked goods, a toy room and much more. They make & bake their own pies (fruit, chicken and turkey) and breads and also sell homemade fudge. Outside, you can take a novelty shot behind a chicken character board with holes for two people to stick their heads through. Driving by, you'll notice a series of chicken coop houses with words painted stating: "Farm Fresh Egg Eaters Make Better Lovers" and "Farm Fresh Eggs Laid Here". I'm surprised the Otis Poultry Farm website is so lame compared to the store, it does not reflect their personality at all. Overall, I would highly recommend a visit! read more

The store has changed hands recently and here was my experience. My husband and I would stop there on our way to Lee for their once yummy best ever Pecan turtles. Truly the best I had ever had in my life. So the other day we stopped again on our way from Connecticut to Lee and the turtles looked odd. I mentioned that to the man at the register and he said they were from a different vendor. But he added they were great. I paid $12.46 for 6 turtles and coveted them to our home hours later. Well let me say this...me thinks never again and that the new management needs to get a grip. The turtles went from the very best I had ever eaten to the VERY WORST I have ever eaten. They are horrible and dont even deserve to be called turtles. You can buy far better at the drug store pre packed. The pecans were crushed not whole and imagine this SALTED! OMG. The so called chocolate was horrendous and didn't even taste like chocolate. The carmel well it was overwhelming and stuck to the roof of my mouth in clumps. The balance of the 6 turtles are sitting in the cupboard and will end up in the trash because they were that awful. The Otis management needs to get a grip and get a new candy vendor because they are going to lose business. We will not be stopping there ever again. read more

I've lived in this area all my life (Westfield) and NEVER heard of or seen this place. I usually just go to Otis for the reservoir, but on our vaca this week we went on an "adventure" and stumbled upon this place. What a treasure trove--not just food, like their fresh eggs, cheese and meat (omg, sirloin burgers... on the campfire), but they had a whole assortment of fun things, including a big toy room with loads of cool kid's stuff. Lots of organic/homemade/local items, everywhere, including what has to be THE best bug repellent cream I've ever come across. We HAD to splurge, of course. I made sure to pick up their birch beer, as that stuff's my lifeblood, lol. For a tourist-specialty stop, the prices weren't that crazy, imho. I'd rather spend my cash on local goodies anyway, especially when the quality is top notch. If you're having a family vaca at Tolland State Forest or just taking a drive, head down--so worth it! read more

I would love to give this place no stars but I can't. Was there on 8/24/2013 and I bought some Almond butter crunch candy and some candied ginger. The Almond Crunch was stale. Very disappointed they would sell this but so glad I didn't buy the pecan pie! I really had high hopes, but based on my purchase, I'd skip this place. I had a very good experience here...I am not from the New England area, and was leaving Vermont. When googling interesting places in Massachusetts I found this spot, and thought it would be a cool stop to bring some local fresh foods back home. Not a fan of wine, but they seemed to have that covered. They have dried fruits and interesting little healthy snacks, as well as local ice cream (if I wasn't so far from home, I would've considered, and cheeses made by the farm. They also have a jellies and jams and raw honey and maple syrup. I read about the guy who works behind the counter wearing the construction hat; he was there when I came in! Saw one review about the guy being grumpy/unfriendly. I bought about $40 worth of stuff (really appreciated the tin signs they had for sale too- they had some unique ones...) and started talking to the guy and mentioned I didn't eat lunch yet, and he offered me a free cup of Chicken noodle soup in the corner that was cooking in a big old-fashioned pot. If I had somewhere to sit, I would've hung out awhile. They do have a couple hot food options too....I also, had this predicament... Traveling in the winter alone, with a trailer hitched to the back of my truck my boyfriend rented. I thought I could pull around behind the building and my trailer got tangled up, had to unhitch it to get out of the corner and I'm kind of a small girl, was having problems picking it up to hitch it again.
