Takeout shakes look like small cup with not enough soft serve in mixture. Tasted more like chocolate milk and vanilla milk. One guy didn't know what vanilla meant. Somebody has to train these people. They're way over their head compared to the old Katie's takeout. I wish them the best but if they don't improve I'm afraid it's curtains for them. Good Luck! read more

This review is for their Fast Food take out business. We took a spur of the moment trip up to the Berkshires to check out some historical buildings. It was getting late in the day and we needed to get something into our stomachs. Instead of finding a place that was open and making that a destination, we chose to just find a place along the way. Katie's was along the way so we stopped. The Fast Food Take Out business is behind the grocery store in a separate building, facing the side street. There is a fairly good amount of parking in the dirt lot adjacent the building. The building has 3 windows: left for ice cream orders, right for food orders and center for order pick up. Steps at located at each end of a raised deck to 'enter', place your order, then 'exit' down steps in the center and wait by the cars to have your order called. One picnic table is located in the parking area if you chose to eat on site, as well as another on the opposite side of the building. The servers appear to be teenaged girls, about six of them between 16 and 19. They were all very nice and seemed to be learning as they went. One of them appeared to be 'in charge'. A small sign taped next to the order window states they are short on staff and please be patient while you wait for your order. All guests did wait calmly. We ordered cold sandwiches and soda. The menu includes a variety of sandwiches, burgers, fried foods and sides. The ice cream line was busy the entire time we were there. A soft serve variety offered in cone or cup with toppings and sprinkles available. There were also a fair number of folks ordering and waiting for food. Not sure what happened to our sandwiches, but there were a couple of people who came after us and received their food before us. Everyone had a good long wait, and after about 25 minutes I went to see if our order had been missed. The sandwiches were wrapped and labeled on the counter with no soda's. One of the staff saw me at the pick up window and asked if they could help. I let her know I believed the sandwiches were for us and could she get us the sodas, which she very happily did. We walked around the building to eat away from the parking lot congestion and waiting crowd. One bite of the sandwich told me this was not for me. There comes a point in the day where it's been so long since you have eaten, you are past hungry, and as I had reached that point, I just wrapped the sandwich back up and drank the soda. The signs say coke products are served, and it has been quite a few months since I had a coke, but this tastes more like RC cola, which I also like. Just wanted you to be prepared in case you were jonesin' for a cola-cola. My SO ate his sandwich because he was starved! From what I got, the bread was soft, the little bit of meat I got was tender. It just overall was not a good sandwich, and my SO agreed. We took a stroll through the store afterward. This is a comprehensive shop. The aisles are narrow and the shelves are packed. Everything you could want for the house from cleaning products and first aid, to canned goods and cold cuts. We didn't get too involved in what was available, but it reminded me very much of the little store down the street from my grandparents vacation home on the Cape if that give you a sense of what to expect. Gas and Diesel pumps are located in front of the building and there is more parking on the main road side of the building as well as the side street. Staff in the grocery store are also teenagers and the cashier was an 'over 21' adult, necessary as they sell beer and wine. Everyone we encountered was polite although there is a definite lack of customer service finesse. Not the staff's fault, they are young and learning new jobs! Just all around not enough experienced adult supervision to help them learn how to handle a crowd, answer customer questions and manage a busy take out restaurant. Waiting 25 minutes for a sandwich that takes five minutes or less to actually make, even if you are making someone else's food first, is just too much. You can slap some cold cuts on a bun while a burger is on the grill. You don't stand there staring at the burger while orders are backing up behind you. Again, totally not the staff's fault. They need more experienced guidance. My SO and I are in agreement, based on too long wait time and product received, we would not return. It is a very cute little shop, in a remote area, so it's convenient if you have no other option. read more

I love the food and ice cream! They have a great selection of drinks and food inside the store!

We stopped in on Memorial day hoping for what used to be a decent little snack shack, but it was anything but that. Not sure if it sold to new owners, but the food was bland and basic at best. Their menu lists a 6 piece chicken tender but the cook told my wife they're basically out and only have 3 left. If it wasn't for the salt & pepper their fries would basically be inedible. Oh, and don't waste your time with the cheese fries. It's basically a serving of fries with a slice of cheap american cheese on top. They need to figure it out fast and step it up otherwise this place will quickly become a ghost town. read more

So im a local, I have lived here in otis my whole life. I went to Katies takeout for dinner with my spouse, this is not the katies country store of old, the burgers instead of a good thick well made homemade patty are now frozen patties that were way over cooked and over priced. Two grinders 28 dollars, both grinders had wilted lettuce and burnt rolls, my girlfriend asked for light mayo and it was loaded with mayo her chicken Cutlet was a cheap frozen patty and both grinders were so unedible that we brought them back and asked for a refund for the sandwiches! Mind you in my entire life I have only asked for something to be recoocked or my money back twice in my life, and Im 35 years old thats saying something! To be fair they did give us our money back for the food, and were nice so I will give them some points for that which is why I gave two stars. The milkshakes used to be in a cup that was twice as big if not three times the size and used to be made with good soft serve ice cream now it is made with lots and lots of milk way less hard ice cream and the larges are the size of a childs medium. Atleast I could drink the shake. I just wish they had followed what the people who used to own the store were doing if you cut costs and raise prices this will always be the outcome. read more

Fantastic little general store in the Berkshires. During the summer they have counter service with the best burgers around and fantastic ice cream. During the off season the store remains open and the staff are always super friendly and the deli and butcher are the best around. I ordered a turkey and salami sandwich that was absolutely incredible. Will be returning soon!! read more

Katie's is our go to spot when at our cottage in Otis. Excellent meat and super fresh seafood. Fairly well stocked with staples, beverages, and surprising selection of wines. Beer is mostly of the Bud, Miller,IPA varieties but the local Berkshire Brewing offerings are worth a try. Limited selection of imported beers which don't turn over as quickly as the commercial suds, so are sometimes a little skunky. You'll be able to find charcoal briquettes, two cycle oil, insect repellent, peptide bismol, and deodorant, alongside the lottery tickets, potatoes, half and half, eggs, bacon , and Hebrew National franks. Nice selection of vodka, rum, scotch, and whiskey, along with little toys and goodies for the kids. My grandsons go there every few days for caps to smash with rocks. Pleasant , hardworking employees. Trish is a great source for local news and qualified service people. And there's just something wonderful about the ancient plank floors read more

A great place to go if you want to take your chances getting Covid -19. No one is wearing a mask while preparing food! When I asked if my sandwich was prepared by someone wearing the proper PPE the loud mouth behind the counter said " No, is there a problem?" I then replied, "yeah, Covid-19" Instead of apologizing she went in to tell me, "it's like 500 degrees back here" Very discussed with our visit. We also drove by later and still no one was wearing a mask. Customers or employees. I wouldn't risk it. It's a shame because we always loved going there over the years while on vacation. read more

Katie's takeout is very busy on weekends. Being a first timer I too ordered food at ice cream window. We ordered several grinders, heroes for us New Yorkers. Food took a few minutes longer than anticipated but it was worth the wait. At times the youngsters working there get confused and ordered get mixed up but they pull it together and make this simple take out shack a unique treat. The general store has some nice deli items, freshly made pies and enough to make your trip worthwhile. read more

This review is for the fast food/ice cream area only. We went to Katie's after going up to the reservoir for a quick snack for the kids and some ice cream. Be aware that the ice cream selection is soft serve here, no hard ice cream which is a disappointment for some kids. There was some confusion at the window when we tried to order food and realized it was the ice cream only window only to regroup and find the same person working at the food window. It didn't really seem to matter because everybody was ordering food and ice cream at the same windows. When we finally ordered only food, it did take a while to come, and the grill cheeses we ordered where extremely gross. Now you may wonder how the word gross can be applied to grill cheese. I wish I had my phone. It was actually wet and soggy in the middle and The rest of the sandwich had enough butter to make a pound cake. We went back and did not notice any supervising adults in the area, so I kindly asked the kid at the grill if he could remake the grill cheese. I showed the wet,gross wad of bread and cheese. Seriously, it looked like somebody poured water in the middle of the grill cheese. I wanted to show an adult the sandwich, so maybe he could be properly trained on how to make one. Maybe he never made one at home before, but I am sure that he would never eat either one of these things presented to us.The second sandwich came out after another long period and it also had some catastrophic event happen to it. It is like he tried to cook it on the grill without placing it on a pan or a foil and it didn't cook in the middle and was missing the bread. After ordering two small fries and two grill cheeses the total came to about $13. Ugh. If we could have survived and made it to Southwick, the Summer House would charge $13 for two yummy kids meals with the same small fry, a drink, and an ice cream. By the time we ordered ice cream, the whole trip felt over budget. So, if you're looking for some decent tasting soft serve, they definitely have yummy soft serve, but it is a little more expensive then you would probably want to pay for it if you had a choice of places to go. On a helpful sidenote, there are picnic tables in the back of the building rather than just the one that is in the parking lot. read more

Katie's helped me out immensely last week by supplying me two rolls of toilet paper. They have closed the store to walk ins but take phone orders to hand off at the door. They assured me they've completely cleaned their store and will be ready to open again when this pandemic is over. They're doing an awesome job keeping their staff and customers safe. read more

This place is such a great classic, a real throwback. The store is a labyrinth of goodies, where a simple aisle full of household items looks magical, lol. I didn't try their deli in the back, but it looked good. It's a great place to get lost in and end up finding something you've never seen before. As for the outdoor diner in the back, I don't get the complaints about high school kids working, as all of them were very friendly and nice. You DO have to be a little patient, but not due to a worker's ineptitude; they make every dinner item to-order. That's part of the charm, really. If you want fast-food, head back down the mountain to the closest McDonald's. But if you want something that took a little time that was worth the wait altogether, park, order and wait. And honestly, don't forget to throw a buck or more in the poor kids' tip cups--they have to deal with a LOT of hungry families, a lot of them with really impatient, LOUD children and grumpy parents. I'd only suggest that this place get at *least* two more picnic tables and situate them near the parking lot. They only have one, and it's always a little awkward asking a couple if you can take the spot at the other end (though no one's ever said no, including me!). Altogether, I make sure to stop here every time I go up to the reservoir, day trip or week-long camp-out. :) read more

This is a nice has everything General Store from alcohol to deli meats. I give it points for being one of the best in the area... the deli meats were delicious.. What I did not like was how dusty it is in there on products and the out of date merchandise.. I would like to see them rotate and dust products on their shelves... The people are super helpful and friendly working there. The selections is great, just watch the dates on products. read more

The working were not doing their jobs, were on there phones while 12 people were waiting outside for their food. I waited in like for 20 minutes for 4 ice creams and had to ask them to make it Bc they were not after 15 minutes. read more

Food is generally very good. Buffalo wings and cheeseburger grinder are good. The stand is run by high schoolers, so be prepared to deal with the level of operational efficiency that one might expect from a bunch of high schoolers. If you're patient and not in a rush, you'll be happy with the food you get. read more

Katie's take out is good for ice cream, but the general store is a real gem --- they have everything you might need (I only wish they had more organic available) the staff is fantastic, and always friendly, which is more than I can say for some of the customers who are visitors to the area. Love Katies! You get the Country Store feeling as soon as you walk in. The family that owns it is great. If they don't have it (and they have a lot) they will try to get it. They have the best meats and chicken in the area, I make the extra trip just for that. I would rather go there then into the city! read more

I remember going there in the early 80's. They were a lifesaver to have somewhere to stop at while visiting friends on Pine Rd.
