It is a little gem in the Berkshires, with a nice network of well-marked, well-maintained trails, and enough topographic and scenic diversity to give a good workout in a pretty New England forest. The prices are very reasonable, and equipment is available for sale or rent. Bathroom facilities are available in the house, and the B&B dining room is a nice place to take a break between runs on a cold day or settle in for a snack and a cup of hot cocoa before going home. The proprietors, Linda and Dave, are very hospitable, as B&B hosts tend to be. Condition reports are posted on their website, and I have found them to be accurate. My son and I have been there several times, and it is one of our favorite places, well worth the trip for us to get in a fun day of skiing at a nice place with friendly, welcoming hosts.

It has an extensive and diverse trail network with a good mix of flats and steeper sections of varying length and pitch. Most trails have set tracks and a groomed area for free-form and skate skiing, and the staff does a nice job keeping the trails in shape. Its history as a downhill facility is evident in the old-time charm of its lodge, a post-and-beam building with basic, comfortable amenities including a hot wood stove and a kitchen staffed by friendly folks. New lift is nice, quick to top so can certainly can get a lot more runs in than previous years. Would like to see two feet of snow over the mountain, I feel like tree runs have improved and there are more of them now. Always the pitfall of coming here, which is why everyone who knows the history here knows that it's icy! Breakfast burrito was delicious for a quick grab and go in the lodge. They require a lift ticket even if a kid only does lessons. Fine. What's not fine is they never told us about the less expensive bunny-hill-only ticket (about $31). Instead, about 30 kids in our group bought the full-mountain ticket (about $60) even though many only used the bunny hill, or didn't ski beyond lessons. When you're coordinating a kid-heavy group, that omission doesn't feel accidental. It feels like they kept quiet so we'd pay more. Not nice at all. They need to do better.

This mountain has the absolute worst management of any ski mountain I have ever been to. My family and I first discovered this mountain last year. So last year after having visited for an early year day ski trip we made plans to stay nearby for a couple of nights and ski a couple of days. Literally, the evening before we were set to arrive they called me to inform me that the mountain would be closed the next day as they were having problems with their lifts. Obviously, we were extremely upset having paid for a non-refundable hotel stay. I explained this to them and they were completely nonplussed. They acted as if though they were doing me a favor by refunding me my tickets....because they were closing the mountain. I spoke to one of their managers and she was absolutely unsympathetic. She simply could not care less. It was incredible. That was the last time we visited that mountain for the season. Fast forward to TODAY. I thought the above was a fluke. So I booked night skiing for my son and I. For TODAY at 3PM. They literally called me at 12:45p TODAY, while we were on our way driving up to tell me that they had canceled night skiing because...."it's going to be cold". No sh$& Sherlock. It's a ski mountain. What were you people expecting??? I skied Killington about a month ago. And it was around 3 degrees when we arrived to the mountain. Guess what, they were open. But, beyond this the people at Catamount actually called me 1 hour and 15 minutes before my ski time. To. Cancel!! WTF is wrong with these people. They didn't know it was going to be cold yesterday or the day before that or days before?!!! Come the f' on?!?! Again, they were completely nonplussed. The unprofessionalism and complete insensitivity for their customers is staggering. After this, I don't think we'll ever go back. Actually, I was planning to go with a group of friends this Friday. I think we'll go to another mountain. The management of this mountain sucks. You have been warned. Update: so they refunded my tickets. But, get this. They are still charging me a "booking fee". Their website boasted of offering accommodations for small groups of 15. When I called, I was told that our group was too small for a group rate and even if I had extra attendees because the weekend we chose was a holiday weekend, a group rate would not be available. I then called a popular ski resort in the Catskills, who were less helpful than the resort in Massachusetts. I finally called Willard. The lady I spoke with walked me through the entire registration process for my party. When we arrived, we found very helpful and friendly staff. One staff member even helped me convince my daughter's very reluctant dad to try snowboarding. The staff distributing the rental equipment were equally pleasant and helpful. The snowboarding instructors went above and beyond to ensure everyone had a great time. They quickly individualized lessons according to how quickly our snowboarders grasped concepts. My group left the mountain, with the hope of returning! Thank you staff of Willard for an amazing time and making my daughter's 16th birthday memorable.
