Has Smashburger with fries and a mocktail
    Terry T.

Otto's is located in the lobby of the Kissel Hotel. The building was built in the 1910s as a car show room for Kissel cars. When we entered the building I was impressed with the design, the restaurant is tucked in to a corner of the lobby with windows showcasing Broadway. We came here for Thanksgiving dinner. Surprisingly the restaurant was empty. When we came in t there was only one couple sitting at a table. After they left we were the only customers. The menu was limited on this holiday however; there was an option of a turkey dinner with all the fixings. I was sure I could not eat all the food, so I looked for something else. After some switching back and forth I decided on a smash burger with fries. I usually find smash burgers to be over cooked, not here it was tasty, still juicy, and not well done. I am not sure if it was the bacon jam or house sauce but I really enjoyed the burger. The French fries were great. I enjoyed a cocktail, I am not sore which one I ended up with, and they were out of ingredients of my first choice. My friends ordered truffle Mac and cheese and fish and chips and shared Brussels sprouts. They were both happy with their meals When I left, I paid attention to all the buildings; this area was once home to many different car show rooms. I was happy to see that they are still standing; some even had the names of cars that have faded in to history.

I came here for to try their ORW26 menu and this was my first time ever at Otto's as well. Their ORW26 menu items sounded so very attractive, and they definitely did not disappoint! The royal toast and the 6oz filet Oscar were easily my favorites. The royal toast was very flavorful and super delicious! The filet mignon was also so very tender and yummy; I was almost smiling the whole time while eating it. The paired béarnaise sauce also goes amazingly well with the crab meat and the mashed potato. I love having that trio of goodness in one bite . The Dubai chocolate macaron was okay; it's on the dryer side. I am a dark chocolate lover, but somehow this macaron tasted a little too heavy/overloaded. The abundance of shredded phyllo is appreciated though! (Perhaps it wasn't the best dessert choice to pair with the steak.) I look forward to their ORW27 menu. :)

Would give it 3.5 if I could. Was hungry and didn't feel like leaving the hotel. We ordered a salad, deviled eggs, fries, impossible bolognese, Brussels sprouts, expresso martini, chocolate tort, and gelato. Food was mediocre, but service was really slow. Everything took a long time (likely the kitchen, my drink came out when almost all my food had been served). Deviled eggs was told there are 6 pieces, came out with 4. Fries were the best part and maybe Brussels sprouts, salad was basic and too oily, expresso martini was decent. The dessert was better - portions were very big in this area. Think there's room for improvement from staff. Ambiance was nice - decor and design led us to expect a lot more. We had breakfast here the next AM as well. French toast - seemed kinda soggy, breakfast burrito was decent, avocado toast was literally just slices of avocado. Breakfast was better than dinner.

Stayed in the hotel upstairs and came down for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. Emily, our server was very nice and helpful in our choices. We decided to get a mocha, matcha, egg breakfast, and mushroom toast. Drinks were yummy, the matcha was perfectly sweetened and Mocha was standard. The mushroom toast was alright, kind of flavorless but my eggs, sausage, and toast breakfast was great. Loved the interior. Would come back if I am staying at the Kissel!

This place gets a 1 star because I couldn't give it a zero. I am going to stay don't believe photos. Anyone can take nice pictures and make something look more than what it is. Hence, I fell for the banana in the tailpipe with this one. Yeah, that fisheye lens used is deceptive like a mofo. While waiting for the third person in our little soirée, I walk over to get checked in. I had been getting reminders regarding the upcoming reservations at Otto's, so when there was no one in sight to check up is- it was odd. I walked up to the bar and asked about a table for 3 and the bartender advised for us to seat ourselves. The tables were dirty so we asked if someone could come and clean them. She told us to sit at the table that was next to the one that we wanted because it was clean. No it wasn't. That part. She came over to wipe the table down and to bring over menus. As she is handing us the menus, she told us that we had to come up to the bar and place the order because the server(s) called in sick. Hm. Where they do that at. Oh there at Otto's! Needless to say we were Outta Otto's. And not looking back. A horrible first impression and start to a birthday celebration. We had to find a real place suitable for a celebration. This wasn't it and won't ever be it.

buttermilk fried chicken & waffles, county line breakfast bowl

Stayed here at the Kissel so decided to try out their breakfast. A colleague ordered salmon with their morning bowl - they had forgotten the additional salmon so she told them to just remove it from the bill. They weren't actually able to remove the cost of the salmon from the bill for some reason - instead, they just said that we could order something of the equivalent value. This was slightly annoying - there wasn't anything else we really wanted so it was inconvenient to have to come up with something. I ordered the fried chicken and waffles - and it was solid. The fried chicken was a tad on the saltier side, but the dish was still good. Overall, not bad for a hotel restaurant - though I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to eat here.

The food was okay. They didn't have the popular donuts as advertised on their menu. The ambiance was chilled and okay.

Food was sub par. First time in, for Oakland Restaurant week. I live close enough to come frequently. I tried to visit previously and no one was present in the restaurant area. The signature drink imo is terrible. "The town Tribute" the worst cocktail I have had in Oakland. The old fashion was delicious and Quinn was a fantastic bar tender. The kitchen really let her down. But she smiled and had a great demeanor through it. A real professional and a real person. Without her this would be a one star review. Flavorless rock hard chicken. Flavors of grease and oil only. No seasoning and a terrible fry. Mac was velveta shells level. Slightly passable was the kale with bacon. Chocolate bread pudding was great. Best thing we had. If coming though hit up Quinn for a drink and then roll on for food.

Everything bagel with cream cheese, add salmon. Generous portion. Bagel was warm. Everything was fresh. Great post race snack.

Generous portion and fresh. Inside of hotel. Would return for bagel and salmon. Service was a little slow, short staffed. Ambiance of hotel was nice.

Wow, how can service be so mixed - good and bad? The server came to my table after a long wait. Yes there was a gathering event crowd so the bar was noisy. While waiting, I check the online menu and then when asking about the food and bev, like if the cocktail is sweet or what bourbons - the answer is "I don't drink so not sure and let me check". Back the first time with partial info and then a drink menu. But what about the food menu since now you told me that menus online aren't always updated. Come back again but then tell me to order at the bar instead!?! Like are you incompetent or just annoying? I go to the bar to eat since clearly I'm not worthy. Bartender is great but now I feel sorry. How can she have to both make drinks and cover for lack of help. I even witnessed the same person pour a glass of red (end of bottle) and tell customer sorry no more. What do you want? Bartender comes to rescue and suggests another. Sea bass was good and flavorful but needed a bit more seasoning. On a bed of veggies and green purée. And yes there was more than Jim Bean (ick!) that I was told. 1 star for the server, 4 for the sea bass and 5 for the bartender plus extra for having to deal with the server's incompetence. At least try to fake it since you're not a busboy/gal.

Very attentive and friendly staff. Was only there for a quick breakfast but the bowl I ordered was filling and delicious, latte was also pretty good. The design of the space was very chic and modern.

We also ordered 2 add ons - the Hojicha Miso Tiramisu and the Korean Mapo Tofu. Hojicha Miso Tiramisu was OK. It contained too much alcohol for all of us and was bitter. Disappointing. I liked the Mapo Tofu! I liked that it was Crispy and that it came with rice. Drinks wise, my friends also got to try the Tomato Beef and White Rabbit. I don't really drink alcohol so I just sipped a bit. Tomato Beef was too alcoholic for me, couldn't really taste the tomato or the beef, but I could see what White Rabbit was going for. The sketchy part about it was the hostess at the front door said they're not accepting cash for the cover fee and they are only accepting Zelle . We search the email to pay but it asked for first and last name and at that point she said never mind you guys can go sit down . so that was weird number one ! The goat cheese was probably our favorite thing that we got perfectly breaded gooey cheese . and the oysters were good. I just wish we could get more for what we pay for. This review is two years old but never too late! First let me start by thanking Sean and Ritchie…read more Sean spent countless email messages with me ironing out the details. I added additional people and it was no problem. I'm a planner and can be pretty intense with insuring things go as planned without hiccups and of course I had a thousand questions and still, Sean's kindness never wavered. I met Ritchie the day of and he was so welcoming, the way we hugged and chatted you'd think we've met before. My kinda people. Ever sense I've been singing their praises. I've sent many people their way. The entire staff that day was great. The bartenders (see the video for the effects). They did not play with those drinks! The food? Muah! Chef's kiss. EVERYONE enjoyed their food. My party end up being about 10 people and we all almost all ordered different things. My steak and chimichurri sauce, eggs and potatoes was to die for. I still daydream about how the temperature of my steak was so perfect. I let folks try my steak, it was so good some ordered their own-aside from their other order lol I'm over due a visit. I pray my next experience is as well as the first.

So here's my update on this absolute dumpster fire of an establishment from Friday, March 20…read more I came in, ordered ONE margarita, and within about five minutes, the bartender was physically fighting with a drunk patron and trying to choke them out while the security guard stood there being completely useless. Truly incredible to watch a place be that understaffed, unprofessional, and unsafe all at once. But wait, it gets worse. After I already left a review about being caught in the middle of their little bar brawl, these geniuses charged my card AGAIN for $52.92 after I had already left. For what exactly? The drinks from the drunk people THEY were over-serving before the fight broke out? Because it definitely wasn't mine. Let me be very clear: I walked in. I ordered ONE drink. A margarita. That's it. So somehow I got front row seats to a bartender throwing hands, security doing absolutely nothing, and then got charged like I sponsored the chaos. This place is a joke. Unsafe, sloppy, and apparently so incompetent they can't even charge the right customer after turning the bar into a live-action WWE event. If you enjoy being overcharged, caught in the middle of violence, and watching staff behave worse than the intoxicated customers, this might be your spot. Easy 1 star. Honestly, zero if I could. 3.24.26 I now have to dispute a charge that never should have been on my card in the first place. This place somehow managed to turn an already awful experience into an even bigger mess by fraudulently charging me $52.92 after everything that happened. I am beyond irritated. At this point, if I have to press charges against the bartender for charging my card without authorization, I will absolutely do it. The level of incompetence and unprofessionalism here is unreal. Not only was I subjected to chaos, but now I'm wasting my time cleaning up a problem THEY created

Making drinks for a crowd takes time and the staff always does their best. The people who come here are super friendly which adds to the welcoming, cozy vibe of the place. It's the kind of spot where you instantly feel comfortable. If you love a good martini this is definitely a place you should check out.

I'll give it to them, Tallboy is a solid concept with their "tinis & weenies". However, a clever…read moreconcept can carry a place so far. Customer service is a close second to concept. Tallboy's martini menu is well-executed. While I didn't personally try one of the slushies, a friend ordered the espresso martini version and gave it a solid thumbs-up. Unfortunately, the experience falls apart when it comes to food and service. Waiting 30+ minutes for two hot dogs (after paying) is hard to justify. When I checked in with a server, she was curt and dismissive. She was quick to explain there was only one person in the kitchen, with no effort to offer a solution, timeline, or even basic courtesy. I understand staffing issues happen. However, customer service is a close second to concept. How an issue is communicated and addressed is what separates good service from bad. What's more frustrating is that these aren't customer problems to absorb. If the kitchen is understaffed, if tables aren't being cleared in a timely manner at a seat-yourself spot, those are management problems. Guests should not have to choose to leave without the food we paid for. There's a lot of competition out there, and concepts alone aren't enough to bring people back. I genuinely wanted that hot dog. That's probably the most disappointing part of the whole experience. Great drinks, solid ambiance, but the service needs serious attention.
