Over 36 years in business since 1989. Way cool. Nice small brunch place on Lakeshore. Super busy during weekends but we were seated in 15 minutes. Cozy inside with a couple of tables outside. Food was great. Their chicken waffle was good. I had their fresh fruit smoothies which are fresh fruit of the day so that changes, and an expansive selections of coffee including cappuccino. The service was great. My frustration was the food portions for the cost. My dad ordered a breakfast burrito that they served cut in half that was smaller than a baby palm. It definitely looks like a kids burrito, no exaggeration. The eggs had no love in them just cooked and thrown on a plate. They also charge a dollar more for iced coffee versus cold, which I think is taking advantage of people. I understand that the economy is high, especially with grand Avenue rent but something in my spirit feels like that's just wrong. Servers were nice at least. read more

I actually stay up the hill like 5 minutes from here but decided to DoorDash still because I have no interest in going anywhere in Oakland - I'm only here for work during the week. I ordered the pancake combo which comes with eggs and bacon. For DoorDash at least it was $1.50 extra for their homemade blueberry jam and a basic prepackaged maple syrup as pictured. One, I think those should be free with my pancakes /shrug so I'm docking a star there. Food was pretty standard, nothing too special, nothing bad. So 4 stars minus 1 for charging me for something that should be free. Good portions for price. I might try it again but other menu items. This is one of my neighborhood favorites for brunch. I love me a wholesome turn and burn breakfast spot. I worked in restaurants for many years and serving brunch is tough! The focus is on taking orders and getting the food out. There's no time to go above and beyond when you're busy. So if you're going out to be waited on hand and foot, this isn't the spot. That said, all of the servers are sooo sweet and lovely. The restaurant itself is pretty small and has diner vibes. There are a few tables outside also which is great. All of that said, the potatoes escapade keep me coming back! Goodness, if you like cheese and potato's, this is a game changer. They are literally home fries loaded with cheese, pesto, salsa, and sour cream with a fried egg on top. It's a delicious stand alone breakfast or easily shared if you want to try more options. This is a great place for breakfast and sandwiches. We often go for weekend brunch, which can become a bit of a wait if you get a late start. Getting there before noon is usually not an issue. Their back patio is lovely, when it is open. My partner loves the oatmeal waffle and oatmeal pancake with fresh house-made blueberry sauce, which is usually his go-to. Their vegetarian benedicts are terrific with great flavor combinations and well cooked eggs. Lately, I have been a huge fan of the turkey pesto melt, which has house-roasted delicious turkey. (Surprised because if it was busier there's not a ton of seating inside or outside, but also looked like they fulfill a lot of to-go orders). Service was initially slow but once our order was in, everything came out really quickly! Servers refilled our coffee a few times and were attentive if you did ask for/need something. The food was overall decent - your classic American breakfast. Portions are solid. *Lu's breakfast - rate 4/5 - French toast was pretty good but for me, not quite on that custard buttery/sweet level. Syrup definitely helped. Scrambled eggs and bacon were what you'd expect. *Meat Lover's Benedict - 5/5 - meat ratio was good, eggs poached well, and overall just good tasting Benedict. *Grilled potatoes (side) - 4/5- they were not like other breakfast potatoes that are baked/fried on all sides. We think they added some dill and there's a small side of sour cream. Softer than more crispy/crunchy pieces. Overall good flavor. For the food plus coffee and a Diet Coke, it was ~ $45. I live a block away and sometimes I'm lazy, so I went in today to get an avocado toast. I looked at the website beforehand, and the menu was "under construction," but I figured I could get a plain avocado toast from any decent breakfast place, right? Wrong. I get home and there's a fried egg on top, which isn't going to work for my brother who can't have eggs. So I go back and politely ask them to remake it without the egg. That's when the gaslighting starts. The server behind the counter (20-25 year old Asian woman) smugly tells me that their avocado toast has egg, so I'm wrong. I point out that they have no menu up in the store, and I had no way of knowing that she would put an egg on it. She continued to tell me that I was wrong and dug out some menus (which were not offered to me when I first ordered), so she was right. She was still trying to tell me how she was right when a manager came out of the back and told her to remake it. I thanked him and he rolled his eyes at me and walked away. Yeah, I may not be smart enough to run a restaurant that wastes its prime location by closing at 2pm, but I know that frying an egg takes more time than not frying an egg, and that when someone asks for help spending their money at your place it's probably a good idea to let them pay you. My brother said it tasted good, so a star for that, but I can say that they have inspired me to do something I thought was impossible: save $12 and mash my own avocados. There are a lot of things to love about Lynn & Lu's: their sun-soaked (on a good day) outdoor patio, their yummy omelettes, their superb staff with their stellar customer service. But chief among them for me is their oatmeal pancake. Please let it be known that I am not a major proponent of pancakes. They can be tolerated once in a while, but I rarely seek them out. (Find me face-first in a cheese omelette with avocado and way too much Cholula instead.) So, I was hesitant when my brother ranted, raved, and then begged everyone at our table to try them. I obliged and when that soft, beautiful fluff of lump or lump of fluff--whichever you prefer--arrived, I knew this was another example of my brother never steering me wrong. The pancake was delicious and please don't be intimidated by the term "lumpy", there's oats but the texture is perf. I was in the mood for pancakes and hadn't tried this place yet so I went on a random Saturday morning for a sample. Ambiance was a small open homestyle kitchen/diner with a no frills vibe. It was quite busy but service was friendly and prompt. Prices seemed decent. I ordered the blueberry pancakes, which were buttermilk pancakes with a side of blueberry sauce. It was ok-tasting but nothing special especially compared to some of the other higher quality spots in the area. Such a gem! We came for sunday brunch around 11:30 and it wasn't too crowded. We nabbed the window nook seat and it was perfect for social distancing and people watching. We had a toddler in tow so appreciated that the food came fast and they had a high chair. My husband raved about his pancakes and I loved my huevos rancheros. Service was kind and it's very kid friendly! Super reasonably priced and big portions too. Easy/free street parking on Sundays. I feel like if you don't flag ppl down for things like taking a check or if you need more of something else, they seem understaffed and too busy to be able to check on you very often.
