My husband had the country fried steak, mashed potatoes, coleslaw and brocolli and cheese. The brocolli and cheese was so oily and cooked to mush it was not recognizable. Our Place is an old fashioned restaurant with that cozy, homey feel. The kind of place where all of the local older folks like to hang out, which isn't a bad thing! You know the food is good and it's a good value! The menu has a nice selection of breakfast, lunch, and dinner choices, and there is always a daily special and features on the board, plus a ton of desserts to choose from, too. The food is simple but good, I believe most dishes are homemade or at least prepared in the restaurant. I've never had anything I didn't like. Service is friendly and tentative, and they always make you feel welcome. Can't beat the value either, most of the dinners are between $8-9.00 and are served with 3 sides. Can't find that anywhere! Love that there is always a soup and sandwich special for like $4 and change. The dining area is a bit outdated but is cozy and very clean, and there are fresh flowers on every table. The food is good, however the experience is severely tainted by the presence of German roaches which walk on the tables and other roaches which appear in the rolled up silverware on occasion. In the past, I've heard that kitchen is inhabited by large quantities of roaches as well. I am aware of how difficult these critters are extremely difficult to eradicate, but the owners need to make a much more concerted effort to cut the populations down! read more

We found this place while driving through WCH. We did a search for somewhere to eat that is not fast food and this came up. So glad it did! We started out with a sampler platter that could have been a meal in itself. The Phili cheesesteak was one if the best I've ever had. The fries were hot and plentiful. Everyone was very friendly. If there's one thing I can't handle from a restaurant (especially a "family" restaurant, it's powdered mashed potatoes from a box. There's just no excuse for them. They taste awful, and Our Place would be a lot better if they didn't use them. The broasted chicken was a concept I wasn't all that familiar with, but it turns out, broasting is like a mix of deep frying and pressure cooking at once. The result was a very crispy outside, with a moist inside, and in terms of fried chicken I would put it above average. My other side was tater tots, and they were good for what they were. I tasted the spiced curly fries, and their fresh cut fries, and the curly fries were definitely the winner between all the potato dishes on the table. Our waitress was friendly, and she kept the glasses full, and they were kind enough to give us the room to the side for ourselves since we were a group of nine. The bathroom was clean, and it smelled nice. So while Our Place might be a three in terms of quality, in terms of mashed potato goodness it's a negative ten. Based on its reputation among some of my friends who grew up in Washington Court House, I was dreading a family gathering at Our Place, but it really wasn't too bad. The word is, this is a place where really old people love to eat, and the menu certainly reflects that, with no surprises (except that it's surprisingly large for this type of restaurant). I ordered a BLT with tater tots (yes!) and a salad, which consisted of the standard "family restaurant" blend of iceberg lettuce, tomato and cheddar cheese. The ranch dressing was pretty runny and some bites had a sweet taste that I couldn't put my finger on, but overall it was fine. The BLT was excellent, with tons of bacon (not overcooked as you often get in BLTs) and the tots, while obviously frozen, were crunchy and really hit the spot. Apparently the specialty is the "broasted" chicken, which several people at my table ordered, and I guess they all liked it. You certainly get a bunch of it. My wife got a "seven-layer" salad that came in a bowl with no discernible layers and was quite watery, but she said it wasn't terrible. But it sure looked gross. Overall, though, everyone at my table seemed pretty happy with their food, and the service was extremely friendly. I certainly would prefer a more interesting choice when it comes to restaurants, but for what it is, Our Place fits the bill. read more

Not a lot to say about this place, except it's pretty much what you would expect. Our place is set up on country style, home cooked meals. That's good right? Unfortunately it also suffers coming from a similar place when it looks at flavor. Everyone here has mentioned that with meals like deep fried tenderloin, green beans and potatoes, turkey sandwiches the meals are hearty and filling. They're right! In fact the price for what you get is good too. Even the chicken and noodles with mashed potatoes are just like you think your country aunt would make but.... ....you better keep the salt and pepper handy, and in some cases ask for the hot sauce. Gravy, sauces, etc here typically lack in general flavor. Good food in a smaller country town, you got it..... but it wouldn't hurt to add some big city spice to the recipes on that menu. read more

My husband ordered the meatloaf hotshot. The portion was large and he usually isn't a big fan of brown gravy but mentioned that it was really good and wondered what kind it was. Waited 1 hour for them to forget to bring a meal! Had 2 children with me. How do you think this went over. Had to ask for everything. Seem to be a lot of cars here so we stop to try it. I order the Philadelphia Cheese steak. It was very very dry. Some of the meat was hard. Maybe something leftover before New Years. I fix it up with a lot of Mayo. Should have sent it back. My wife got the BBQ Chicken sandwich , She only ate a couple of bits. Her Coleslaw and Fries where very good but that was about it. Our Place is not like anything you see in the city these days. This is the kind of place that the farmers probably go to at least once a day. With menu items like country fried steak, Texas tenderloin sandwiches, and open faced turkey sandwiches with gravy, it sounds like something out of a 1980's grade school cafeteria. The main dishes were pretty great. I got the tenderloin: a pork chop that's basically flattened until it's bigger than a dinner plate, breaded, fried, and folded over on a tiny hamburger bun. I got a side of onion rings: freshly beer battered. They were damn tasty. My wife got the open faced turkey sandwich thingy. My mom and I ate here twice on our trip in Ohio. The food was delicious and the portions were huge! The prices were great as well. The first night I had the chicken tenders with mashed potatoes, green beans, and sweet potatoes. The whole meal was only $8.50. My mom had the homemade chicken and noodles, and it was a huge portion and hers was only $7.00. The second day we ate for lunch and just did sandwiches. We had the fried bologna sandwich and french fries. Great sandwich! It was the nice thick cut bologna. Our whole total including drinks was $11.00. My first time there and the steak n gravy were supposed to be excellent. My brother n friend ordered it and I ordered the all you can eat perch n fries. The steaks,gravy n mashed potatoes were stone cold. Told waitress and they nuked them and brought them back. Ruined some of the steaks, got harder than a brick and couldn't be eaten. Still wasn't very hot. The only saving grace was that my fish n fries were excellent. I ordered Mom a steak n gravy to go since it would be reheated at home anyway. Got home n it was MEATLOAF w/gravy on it! Mom heated it and ate it anyway n said it wasn't too bad. Might go back and try the fish again or try the chicken.. we all liked the coleslaw. The sad thing is, if I would have rated this restaurant about six months ago, I would have given it five stars. The servers are sweet and this restaurant serves the very best home fries in the whole world. But the experiences that I've had in the last six months have brought me to this point of posting a negative review. The problem is their ability to cook EGGS! I have always asked for my eggs over-hard but have had to send them back every single time in the past six or so months. We usually frequent this restaurant at least once every other week so after ten or so times sending my eggs back, I finally decided to just try a hard boiled egg instead, since they couldn't seem to get an egg over-hard right. When my egg arrived I cut into it, only to have it explode--LITERALLY EXPLODE all over my face, my hair, my nice church clothes, my water, my hot chocolate--EVERYWHERE! I asked for a manager as enough was enough. They said she'd be "right back" so we waited for a half hour before we found out she wasn't coming back anytime soon but that she was "real sorry 'bout that." I hate to say that "Our Place" will no longer be this restaurant. read more

The last several visits haven't yielded the best results. In some instances the home fried potatoes were obviously left overs and not fresh off the grill. Sometimes, the women working there are not consistent in their attentiveness to the customer. My impression, and this is being kind they have issues with persons who aren't local and familiar to the wait Staff. Once before several years ago I had a bad experience and vowed to never return as it was a good distance from where I was living then. After moving closer to this Burg a year or more ago, I thought I'm gonna try them again! Maybe they were having a bad day. However, my last visit affirmed my past judgement and I have swore them off for good this time. Noticing little things and the Wait Staff more attentive to biggar tips convinced me they have issues with "getting it right"! Be careful if you drop in as the quality and service vary from visit to visit! It also is more money than places like Arby's, Burger King or Wendy's, counting the tips, which seems to determine the level of service and quality if you become a regular. read more
