It's within walking distance of everything in town and even tough it is literally on main street, I slept like a baby! It was incredibly quiet and even though it was totally booked, I didn't hear anyone else. The rooms were impeccable and I would never have known any pet had been in the room if I wasn't told. We stayed in the Palomino room. It was a very roomy room with a small kitchenette (microwave and mini fridge) which was plenty since all I had were leftovers. The converted large walk-in closet allowed for plenty of room for everything my beloved cat, Luna. Even though we were on a quiet getaway, when I had to get some work done (boo!) the wi-fi was incredibly fast! The staff was so nice and helpful with local information. We will be back soon!!!!

They even have a gate so your pet is secure on the deck. Overall a wonderful stay. We will definitely stay again on future adventures.

Waterfalls , hiking trails , shopping, off road trails , dog park , water park ... and that's not even it ! For such a small town I'm impressed ! The hotel we picked is nice , not super luxurious but quaint . Friendly , helpful staff . They have a swing to sit on at the top of their hot springs tubs . I saw a lot of complaints about their hot tubs but there was a staff of people cleaning them today and some of them looked " slimier" than others , those looked like the ones most used . Up top were the best ones , but slippery getting in so be careful ! They have breakfast in the morning with eggs, sausage , bacon , waffles etc . We didn't go until after 9am and yes , they still had food and more coming out . Only complaint is that we have dogs ( there is a $30 person per night fee ) and had to stay on bottom floor .. the problem was that you could hear through the walls the people walking above you and to the side of you. ( I think the lady next to us was being extra loud when talking . However we did not get woken up by our neighbors so maybe just a one off ... anyways I would stay here again . We were incredibly lucky to find this property just a few days before our trip. The front desk staff were genuinely kind, helpful, and made us feel immediately welcome. We can't wait to come back and will absolutely be choosing to stay here again. While exploring downtown, we checked out a few other hotels, and it only made us even happier with our choice. This place truly stood out in every way. I even told our kids, "dad did this to be nice and spontaneous, so even if it's bad, just be grateful and act happy". I wasn't sure what to think at first, it definitely had character at first impression, but it could go either way once you get into the rooms (I mean, we've had some spontaneous hotel experiences that did not turn out so great). I was so pleasantly surprised when we got to the room- the beds were huge and SO COMFORTABLE (even the soft pillows which are hard to find in hotels)! The beds were so comfortable that I chose to turn in early because I just wanted a good night sleep in a soft, comfy bed that I could mold into. The rooms were spacious and immaculate, housekeeping and maintenance deserve a shout out because I'm PICKY and opted to shower without my shower shoes! Rooms were decorated adorably and the balcony overlooking the river was a treat! Breakfast was basic with hardboiled eggs and toast being my only personal option, but they also had sweets, Bagels, frozen burritos, cereal, etc. We would Definitely stay here again, and I highly recommend it to you High maintenance diva's is out there.

And the cabin in particular that is built upon Chief Ouray's hunting adobe. We absolutely loved the cabin. It was private and primative, but had everything we needed. And to learn that it was built in 1902 was even better. It does have a comfy bedroom, it is not a studio. And a kitchenette with a fridge and a stove, a microwave and mostly fully stocked. A decent shower and lots of heaters with a wood burning stove. We would stay here again in a second. It was neat waking up to the wild turkeys and driving up and down the hill in the ice. The jeep made it really easy. We also booked the sunroom and while I do love staying in the lodge, because of its convenience, we much prefer the cabin. The sun room is almost all windows, and it is literally built on top of the vapor cave with the rock coming through one wall. It's very cozy too, and has a king bed. That part is great! There is no kitchenette in here though, but the front desk clerk was kind enough to help us with some items we needed to make some sandwiches. I'll tell you the most difficult part is this: The entitlement of folks who have no concept of respect. Whether it be berating the staff or talking loudly and obnoxiously while soaking. If someone doesn't know hot springs etiquette, they should learn. It's a place of retreat, rest and relaxation. It's also a sacred native site. It deserves respect. Don't come here if you're looking to be loud and obnoxious. You don't know how many times I watched people walk away from soaking, because of idle drunk gossipy talk... The times where we have been mostly alone, are just epic and I'm truly grateful for that. It has been one of the best weeks just becoming one with nature and the earth, honoring the sacred. There really are no more words except this... For all the negative reviews around social media or online, that's great keep it up. The rest of us would like this little gem kept a secret. Thanks

We had a king accessible room so it was probably a little different from the regular rooms. It was spacious but one of the lights wasn't working so we had to drag a lamp over to the table area. There was a microwave and good size fridge and a small, pod coffee maker on the dresser. IMO the coffee was pretty good. Our couch also pulled out into a bed. They had coffee/tea in the lobby and passed out brown bag breakfasts in the morning. Our bathroom could have used some counter space but there wasn't any. The shower was tiny but did have a bench and grab bars. The whole thing was porta-potty sized and only had a hand held sprayer with very weak water pressure, but it was clean. They did provide bar soap and had shampoo and body wash dispensers in the shower. The whole room was pretty clean and almost bug free - which for Colorado mountain towns says a lot. It was showing some wear but it was nice to have the air conditioning unit even if it was noisy and didn't work very well. There was also a portable floor fan in the small closet along with a luggage stand and bench for the shower. If someone needs an accessible room this one was very complete. I chatted with John, the owner, a couple of times and he is very nice and pretty mellow. His daughter Laura is also very friendly and sweet. Really the biggest issue we had was lack of maid service. When I went to ask about clean towels, John told me to put our used ones on the chair outside our door. We did that the next day at 7am, got back to the room about 3:30pm and the used towels were gone but there were no new ones. I went to the lobby and got towels and when we left for dinner there was a stack of clean towels on the chair. No one ever emptied our trash or even checked the room the whole week. It wasn't that we needed much but the website and handout we received both stated they had daily maid service. For $250/night I would have expected better communication. I did really enjoy the firepit area and hot tubs and we were able to have friends over one evening to socialize on the patio. I do recommend The River's Edge but it's important to clarify expectations on what's included.
