The welcome voice when I made the reservation was a good start and then the careful distancing when we arrived and were offered 2 big chocolate chip packaged cookies. Really enjoyed this hotel. It is simple and not pretentious but the staff is very courteous and friendly (not a norm in this area). The rooms are clean, it is super central so walking anywhere is a breeze. The other thing we appreciated was that, during COVID, they delivered daily a small bag of breakfast items to make up for the fact that they could not offer breakfast as usual. It was a very nice gesture to normalize things during these strange times and offer an additional service. 5 star hotel for what it is. Super friendly check in service. We had driven in from Denver and I had to use the bathroom so badly. I was assuming check in would have one, but they didn't! I walked in and said I was there for check in but had to use the bathroom, she took my last name and gave me the keys and told me to come check in when I was all settled. The rooms are average: super comfy beds, tv, fridge, microwave, coffeemaker. They have a speaker that plays music throughout the room which I really liked. We mentioned we might go to the hot springs and they have us extra towels. There is a hot tub open until 9pm. Location. Location. Location. We arrived at night, but once we opened the door on the morning. Holy cow! The mountains are right there at your face! This hotel is mediocre at best, centrally located to all the food restaurants in downtown people watching. Somewhat clean, bathrooms are OK, outside tends to get pretty populated at night. Personally I think it's a little overpriced but not to many options in town. Great for walking around. read more

This is a great little hotel located in the heart of downtown in Ouray Colorado. I found it on Travelocity and paid around 50$ for a weekday night in February 2014. The hotel is located within walking distance of a bunch of great bars and restaurants. The rooms are very basic, but they are really clean and you're paying for the location. Ouray is one of the most beautiful towns in the United States. There are several large commercially operated hot spring pools in the town that are open year round. It was 0 degrees outside, but we the hotter pools were 104 and we spent several hours swimming. I would love to come back and visit this town in the summer. They have a waterfall trail in town that you can walk to, but we didn't have time to do it. Be warned: Route 550 from Durango is pretty perilous in the winter. It was only open for a total of 4 hours in February and it was covered in snow. I would not recommend driving through this pass in the winter unless you have 4 wheel drive or a set of snow chains. I have been staying at the Ouray Chalet Inn for 42 years now (since I was a baby with my grandparents) and I love it and won't stay anywhere else unless forced to. I have gone almost annually the entire time. The location of this hotel is perfect with beautiful views and a convenient location to the rest of town. The rooms are neat as a pin, clean, well stocked and have outstanding views of the mountains. In addition, they are reasonably priced and a good value. The owner, Lora Slawitchka is top notch. She is EXTREMELY knowledgeable about everything that is going on in and around the Ouray area. Just ask her and she will know what's going on or where to direct you. She stays on top of the weather, the road conditions, etc. in order to provide you, the guest, with the most information. Another helpful thing to know is that she has a beautiful patio with lots of seating and a hot tub and laundry for guest use. She will even make change for you to use the laundry if you need it! There is also a microwave, coffee and mini fridge in each room which is wonderful for those longer stays! One thing Ms. Slawitchka does not provide - is enough information on her beautiful photographs. You can find them hanging in the rooms and hallways of the inn. She is an amazing photographer and needs to make her work more available for purchase to guests. Definitely my favorite place to stay in Ouray (I've had to stay at other hotels twice due to my lack of planning) and I will be back again and again. I highly recommend that you stay here. read more

After my 2nd stay in 12 months I cant stay anywhere else as far as winter lodging is concerned . The personnel is very friendly and accommodating. The rooms always clean and fresh with adequate amount of towels as well as abundant amount of pillows. The tv was just right for our room and the WiFi was fast for full occupancy. Our 1st stay was in February and we finished the year celebrating New Years. Looking forward for our next stay. read more

They were fantastic! They didn't make any promises but were able to accommodate an early check in which we really appreciated. Room was nice and clean. They provided the standard coffee machine plus in the room oatmeal, orange juice and a packaged breakfast bar which was great as Ouray has limited breakfast options especially when leaving early in the morning. Staff were friendly and super helpful when I called from a ways down the road realizing I had forgotten a favorite t-shirt- they mailed it to me for the cost of postage (I told them to add a tip for their trouble but I don't think they did). They don't have onsite hot springs like some the other place I stayed in town previously, but I would definitely stay here again and just go to the main city hot springs- it's not a long walk. (The other place was totally fine but rooms were newer and nicer here for less $ and the staff were great). read more

I think that the best thing about this hotel was the location. I was able to walk right out the door and be in town. Room was nice. Pretty clean. Bathroom could use a little TLC. Nice hummingbird feeder right outside the office, which was fun to watch. Enjoyed the hot tub, although there was a build up of mold on the headrest, which I mentioned when I checked out. View of the Cascade Falls from the hot tub was nice. All in all, the hotel was a good deal for the cost. read more

I'm not crazy about this place. The old quote "you get what you pay for" definitely applies here. I will say that none of the other reviews or advertising were misleading at all. There is just so little to pick from here. Stayed in a room with a king size bed; not horrible but not very comfortable either. Horrible pressure/water temp regulation in bathroom, fabric softener is used on the towels so they don't absorb water at all. We are staying for 3 nights and I wish it was only one! The place is clean, woman who checked us in was very friendly & helpful. Location is great, you can walk anywhere you want to go. I just prefer to be more comfortable on vacation. read more

My grandparents brought me here regularly as a child and I've been coming back whenever I'm in town over the last 35 years. To me, the Ouray Chalet Inn is the place to stay whenever you're in the area. It's in the middle of downtown, but still within walking distance to the Ice Park. Very good room and well located in nearly the center of town, with super easy walking distance. Beds great and wifi free - but unfortunately we had very noisy "neighbors" and people staying above us must have walked a mile in their room most of the night and it was hard to get rest before 11pm. Although basic, this inn is prime location for things to do around town and a quick walk or drive to the ice park. Check in is easy and never had a problem with the staff.
