Tough one. We've been coming here for years (7 times now? 8?) and love the location. For the most part we love the service. We generally love the amenities (though we miss the lip balm that used to greet us). The WiFi is now flawless. We have only stayed in rooms 35 and 37 (better views out of 35 but we liked the quiet of the larger 37 this trip). Rooms have been mostly refurbished (our rooms fridge looked battered but worked great; yes, they have robes) and are generally very clean but on this trip we experienced an issue (discussed below). Not in love with the pricing, which has only gotten higher. Hey, I guess if you can get away with it, go for it. Not at all in love with the money-grab of the parking situation. When we started coming, it was $10/day. Now it's $35. Not in love with the dog-friendly nature of the place (I'm allergic). Supposedly (according to the website and front desk staff) the third floor is off-limits to pets, which should make it a place I can sleep without problems. Well, this time we found the carpet of our third floor suite of rooms was heavily coated with long, white dog hair. I took a Benadryl and mentioned it when we headed down to breakfast the next day and the (thoroughly wonderful) woman staffing the front desk was clearly alarmed and _immediately_ had Housekeeping go vacuum and clean the room; they did a good job which got most (not all) of the hair, so I didn't mention it again. (I do love the responsiveness of the staff, and generally the cleanliness of the room - it's just a problem when there are dogs shedding on carpet). The included breakfast buffet is not what it was: less selection with no more cold meats and cheeses, but still pastries, yogurt, a warm egg dish and warm meats, toasts and hard boiled eggs. Great service by staff in the breakfast room (which moonlights as Cosmopolitan restaurant). Good coffee. So. The unexpected and not entirely removed dog hair - not good. The service was great and generally really welcoming and friendly. Rooms are nice. The location is fantastic. Breakfast is nice, but no longer cartwheel-inspiring. Pricing is high - but look where you are. However, parking is - no other way to say it - a ripoff and kind of an insult. Overall, I guess it's a 4 out of 5 . . . but it's sure not the hip-hip-hooray five stars that I always gave it before I delete my last Yelp account. read more

My wife and I were in town for a few days of skiing and stayed at the Hotel Columbia. It was our first time there. We chose it because it is right across the street from a lift and the gondola and has suites with large outdoor decks and hot tubs. Our experience could not have been better. Every single employee we interacted with, from the front desk to the restaurant to the cleaning and maintenance staff were friendly and professional. Our room (25 & 26) was large and exactly as advertised. They combined two rooms to make a really nice suite, with a fireplace in the living room. The deck was spacious and looked out over the area by the lift and gondola. The view was so-so as there are buildings on every side, but it worked well for us. We enjoyed the hot tub each evening. It was very clean and held a steady 103 while we were using it, despite the outside temperature being in the low teens. Their ski locker room is clean and well organized, with a separate entrance/exit that let's you avoid walking through the lobby in your gear. The complementary breakfast each morning was fairly basic, but was more than enough to get us going for the day. The waitstaff kept the coffee flowing, which we really appreciated. We had a small mechanical problem with our room when we arrived, and they handled it immediately. The room price is what you should expect for a large suite in a boutique hotel in a ski town that is literally steps from the lifts and gondola. Although pricey, I believe if offered great value for what we got from the experience. Highly recommend. read more

This is a very nice place to stay in Telluride! You really can't beat the location, right by the gondola in downtown. My room had a nice view of the gondola and mountainside. We enjoyed having the balcony as well. I found the heating/cooling system to be a bit confusing, but it was fine once I figured it out (there's a remote for AC and a wall control panel for heat). I also would prefer there be a nightstand on both sides of the bed in King bed units, but we made it work. Our room was very comfortable and just could not stop staring out the window at our view! What an amazing hotel! This was such a fun Colorado staycation, and we had a great time at the Hotel Columbia for 3 nights. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, with a nice, warm, boutique feeling. We were in room 25, on the second floor, which is a king room, corner view, with a small balcony. The room itself was large, with a king bed, corner chair, bench at the foot of the bed, lamps and night stands on each side, with the television set upon a cabinet that provided drawer and shelf space for our stuff. A Keurig with coffee pods sat next to the television. The closet was located in the entry way next to the door, and contained a safe, 2 robes, as well as an iron and ironing board. The bathroom was exceptional, with a huge bathtub, a very large shower with multiple shower heads, a heated towel rack, and a floating vanity with a single sink. The view was incredible, as room 25 is on the back corner of the hotel, so it's literally looking right out towards the gondola and the restaurants and shops surrounding the base of the gondola. Extremely convenient to access the gondola and ride up and over to Telluride Mountain Village while enjoying spectacular views. Each morning a complimentary breakfast is served, buffet style, within the hotel's restaurant. Hotel Columbia serves up a much better breakfast than the usual complimentary hotel breakfast, as the breakfast is smaller and therefore it seemed that more attention was given to the food quality and guest satisfaction. Each morning there was a selection of bagels, pastries, boiled eggs, cereal, yogurt, cheese, and charcuterie, as well as a couple of hot dishes. For two of our three breakfasts, one of the hot dishes was quiche, and the quiche was fantastic. Perfectly flaky tender crust, just the right amount of vegetables, and plenty of gooey cheese. The servers at the breakfast were fun, chatty, and really gave the day a great start, especially when they don't let your coffee cup ever empty. The hotel is 2 blocks from the Colorado Street, which is the main street in Telluride with lots of shops and restaurants. Everything is seriously within walking distance. We parked our car with the hotel valet when we arrived, and never moved it until check-out, because everything was so close. I'm looking forward to another trip to Telluride, perhaps again for the Telluride Horror Show, and I will definitely stay at the Hotel Columbia again. The hotel also allows dogs in some of their room, which is great if you want to go on vacation and bring your pet. Since the Hotel Columbia offers several unique rooms, I look forward to checking out other options rather than room 25, perhaps a room with a hot tub next time! read more

Following Luca's recommendation, we stayed here and couldn't have been happier. Since his review, the entire hotel was remodeled and very tastefully so. Travertine/limestone bathrooms with a spa shower, flat screen TV's kitchenette in our room and while we didn't have a fire place, we did have a gorgeous view of the gondola and the babbling brook that runs right underneath the lift. Not to mention, room service from the restaurant downstairs, and the best room service either one of us has had. Good amenities, continental breakfast included, ideal location, great personal service, and affordable($10/day) easy parking. I would have preferred to have had a full breakfast, lunch service, and happy hour. But nothing we couldn't live without. All in all a very memorable stay. I suggest that you book on their website for a 10% discount, and request a view of the gondola. Slight gondola noise early morning, but well worth it for the view. read more

We stayed in room 26. Edward and Michael are awesome at the front desk! Super accommodating and helpful for our wedding and wedding guests. Giving 4 stars because the Murphy bed was clearly broke and I waited 1.5 hours at 11pm .. in my wedding dress... to have the after hours handyman (who was great bye) come fix it. They could have comp'd my parking for the inconvenience. I'd go back becuase of Edward and Michael but I wouldn't stay in room 26 again. The mattress was also horrible and was very slanted/bumpy. read more

This place was awesome. It is cozy, has wonderful friendly service, a very good continental breakfast ....fresh fruits, fresh yogurt, salmon, soft cheeses, bagels, pastries, amazing wake me up coffee and fresh juice. There is also a restaurant called Cosmopolitan (an amazing restaurant that I will review later) that is part of the Hotel but separately owned.....they allow the hotel to use their restaurant for the continental breakfast which has amazing views of the mountain, gondola and creek. As the hotel is located at the base of the free Gondola it is in a prime location. You have the advantage of being able to easily access all of the ski areas and mountain village. Everything in Telluride town is easy walking distance also. The bathrooms are great with heated towel racks and some rooms even have steam showers. There was a mistake between what I had booked and what we got when we arrived however they were very apologetic and very generous and upgraded our room for the remainder of the week. So we were able to experience some amazing views! : ) I would highly recommend this hotel for comfort, great service and awesome location. read more

We stayed here for 4 days to check out Telluride with a focus on getting as much snowboarding in as possible. The hotel was perfect for this. The location couldn't have been better, just steps away from the 8 lift, which is where you want to be if you're looking for steep terrain. The staff was professional, helpful, and friendly. Rooms were large, comfortable, and well appointed. We enjoyed the ski storage downstairs, as we brought several boards with us and it helped keep things organized. The only potential downside I'd point out was that our bedroom [room #27] was situated directly over the entrance to the kitchen of the attached restaurant, so from about 9:30pm-10:30pm, you could hear significant noise from the cleanup process. Probably not a big deal if you go to bed later than 10pm, and I was able to sleep through it, but something to keep in mind as other rooms didn't look like they'd be affected. read more

First of all, THE LOCATION of this hotel can't be beat. It's five seconds away from the Gondola which is perfect for people who have to carry all their ski gear :D When we arrived we weren't sure where to park, so we ended up pulling in to this covered driveway area near the backdoor of the hotel. We spoke to the lady at the front desk who let us check in a bit earlier than usual, but she kind of had a bit of an attitude and wasn't very nice. The manager was super helpful and accommodating though! We were unable to book the same room for two nights in a row, so we had to switch after the first night. Our first room was quite large, with a view of the Gondola. The bed was a pull out which I thought was weird, but it was a King size so plenty of room. We had a mini fridge, a Keurig, a microwave and a little range too! The floor was heated in the bathroom which was amazing. The second room was smaller (which was strange because it was a corner room) and for some reason we could hear running water in the walls periodically throughout the night. Not sure what that was. This room had a bathtub which was legit and the view was very pretty; mountains, snow, Gondola, people walking :D Breakfast was top notch: eggs, potatoes, quiche, sliced meats and cheeses, tea, coffee, fruit, toast... So many delicious options to choose from! Yogurt and granola provided as well. TIP: Use the lockers on the first floor for your skis, it is so helpful and convenient! When we checked out we got the same surly lady who helped us check in which was kind of annoying because we wanted to load our stuff in our car but you could tell she wanted to make sure she helped us so she could get a tip... You arrive in town a couple of weeks before Christmas, 8 pm on a weekday, without a reservation, you want a nice comfortable stylish room, close to the gondola, hopefully without spending a fortune: what do you do? You go to the (supposedly) best hotel in town, the one on Main Street? Tooooooo obvious! And wrong, by the way. What you wanna do is, you trust your wife, who's done her homework, and give a chance to the Columbia Hotel. It turns out to have the best rooms in town (compared to the older, tired looking rooms of similar establishments), and prices more or less in line with key competitors. And it's literally half a block from the Gondola. The room: nice view, quite spacious, nice king bed, nice bathroom with sauna, and even a gas fireplace. Which actually looks pretty cheesy, to tell the truth, unless of course you're British, in which case it must look incredibly sexy and cool, compared to the electric ones they're used to. The amenities: quite remarcable, including an intermittently working wi-fi connection (how disappointing) a VHS player (for antiques lovers, I suppose), a roof jacuzzi with breathtaking view (and a breathtaking cold in the few seconds it takes to enter the tub), complimentary breakfast with excellent pastries. Overall: a memorable, classy place to stay in an unforgettable town. read more

I stayed at the Columbia 4 nights in early June, 2014. The room (deluxe king) was quite nice, with plenty of room and all the nice extras that make a longer visit pleasent. The kichenette was fully stocked with all the plates bowels utensils and so on you need. The fridge was full size and quiet. In a higher priced town like Telluride you can save $$$ by making a trip to the market and loading up tqhere instead of eating out all the time. The bath may have been the best room. There was a full size shower enclosure plus a giant claw foot tub. Other niceys were the heated towel rack, balcony (yes in the bathroom), plenty of nice towels and robes. The breakfast was also great, with lots of fresh and healthy food. The wild mushroom quiece and fruits were my favorites. Fast service and good coffee & OJ. Once again, you save $$ with your daily stroll downstairs for a great, free breakfast. The last item I will mention is the location very near the tram. I was in town for a wedding on the mountain, with most of our group was in Mtn Village, so I was back and forth on the tram many times. The river trail is also within a block and is great walk, virtually the only flat walking anywhere in this valley. Coming from sea level, flat walking is needed the first couple days due to the high altitude! I paid a fairly high rate, but overall felt that excellent value was provided by the long list of features. read more

This is our second time to Telluride, hands down the place to stay. We visited Telluride first time last year from Denver for the blues festival, this year skiing. Literally, you are steps away from the town gondola which takes you to the ski resort. The rooms are lovely, comfortable and very clean. Staff very friendly and go out of their way to make your stay special. We will be back next ski season again joining friends from Princeton, NJ who are already booked! My wife and I hate cruise ships, but we love the concept of 5 star living and obscenely good service. What to do? Why, book a stay at the Columbia Hotel in Telluride, Colorado! It's the best location in town - the ski lift and the gondola to the mountain resort is across the street, as are the ski equipment rental folks. Anywhere in the old town is less than 5 minutes walk. They have valet parking so your car doesn't get crunched by a snow plow. They're pet friendly - they'll freakin' walk and feed your dog while you ski! The restaurant in the hotel, Cosmos, is world class but reasonably priced, with an incredible wine list. The chef is not only an amazing cook, but he knows how to buy local and he has a killer wine list with a price range to suit any pocketbook. The bar is a great happy hour and later evening location with a jolly crowd. The wait staff is attentive and friendly. What's not to like? The best part of all is the management and staff of the hotel. These folks will jump through hoops to make sure your stay is world class. The rooms are superb, the hotel breakfast (included in our rate) was delicious, and it just seems as if everyone is hell bent on making sure you have the time of your life. We visited in the beginning of September and could not have had a better experience staying at Hotel Columbia! Our first priority for a hotel was having it be dog friendly as we traveled with our dog. The staff was all so sweet and friendly and accommodating of our dog. They all loved on her which made me love them of course! We had a beautiful, large room. The room and service was great, and the location was perfect. Walked to and around the Main Street, walked the path along the little river and right to a hike a few blocks away. (Bear Creek Falls which I would definitely recommend doing in summer!) Nice little details in the room like a Keurig machine, and a towel warmer in the bathroom. And a great SPF Chapstick I've been enjoying. :) A lovely, cozy hotel!! We'll be back! read more

Stayed at Hotel Columbia room 43, I can't describe how perfect our experience was! Every single person working was so helpful, kind, and down to earth. Speaking with them for 5 minutes made you feel so at home. The breakfast is great every morning and only for guests of the hotel, since it is provided in the restaurant on the bottom level, Cosmopolitan. The views were amazing, woke up every morning with the mountain staring back at me, and the hot tub was priceless! All of this being said, the location is probably the number 1 thing about this place, it is absolutely perfect. Literally 50 steps from the gondola, the best rental company(Boot Doctors), and location for picking up your lift to tickets. Honestly, this hotel played a large part of the best trip of our lives. Location is ideal. Right next to the gondola and two short blocks from Main St. Telluride. Service is first-class. Rachel and her staff are genuinely helpful, friendly, hard working and the ultimate professionals. They take customer service to the next level and make you feel right at home. The rooms are the perfect combination of upscale and cozy. Very well decorated and sophisticated, but not over the top or trying too hard to be hip. The bathrooms are fantastic. Upscale hardware, tile, countertops and showers, complete with heated towel racks! And although not operated by the hotel, Cosmopolitan restaurant is at the hotel and is some of the best food in town. Columbia's proximity to Cosmopolitan is another big plus. Look no further than the Hotel Columbia for your Telluride accommodations. I would highly recommend staying in town and not in Mountain Village. There's a lot more flavor, action and character in town. Mountain Village is very nice, but can easily be experienced in half a day by taking the free gondola from town. read more

PERFECT LOCATION. GREAT STAFF. LUXURIOUS & QUAINT ACCOMMODATIONS. This was our first trip to Telluride. What a SCORE to have found the Hotel Columbia. Seriously within walking distance to everything. It's literally across the street from the free gondola. Our room, 23, looked out at the mountain. The river ran at the base of the mountain. We opened the window at night to listen to it and walked the adjacent trail each day. Stunning views. The staff, Kate and Christa, were delightful. Very genuinely sweet people and so informative. The free breakfast was easily like a $30 buffet. Fresh baked pastries, meat, cheese, Quiche, fresh fruit. Amazing!!! I wouldn't stay anywhere else. read more

First of all, I might have been high on pure euphoria when I found out that we could cancel our reservation at the Peaks, and stay at the Columbia, so my review might be a little jaded. Columbia seemed like the Peninsula compared to the Motel 6 impersonator we had just stayed at in the mountain village. This place is adorable! The staff upgraded us to a 1 bedroom suite upon arrival just because it wasn't booked up for the night. Huh? Wow, that was a nice way to hearts. Overall cute, relaxing decor. I really loved the cottage-y feel of the room and the bed was very comfortable. Cosmopolitan, the restaurant downstairs is still one of my favorite places in Telluride... and the morning "continental" breakfast spread of quiches, beignets, fresh tropical fruits and freshly baked breads did the trick to keep us full all day. This little hotel was just so accommodating and relaxing that I put myself on the wait list for the Brew and Blues Festival in Sept... Can't wait to go back! read more

I have been meaning to write a review since I stayed at this hotel last September! I love everything about this hotel. It is a wonderful family run, Boutique Hotel at the base of the mountain. I actually found them through Craigs List or VRBO, or one of those. I never expected to get such a fantastic, large room for such a reasonable price. Our room had a King bed and sitting area, a back balcony through the bathroom, an awesome, hug claw foot tub, and a refrigerator and kitchenette. It was also very modern, clean, and up to date. It also had a wonderful buffet breakfast every morning and a delicious Happy Hour in the Cosmopolitan. As a business owner, I know what it means to take pride in what you do. There is an extra element of service added because it is family owned and run. They really go the extra mile to accommodate you. I recommend this hotel to everyone passing through Telluride. read more

Hotel Columbia was a great choice for our last minute stay in Telluride. It is a first class place with phenomenal service. We were checking in around the time the kitchen was closing and they even offered to stay open a little late to wait for us to get settled in and cook us dinner. Kate was tremendous. She was very attentive and went out of her way to help us with parking and making sure that everything was perfect. Hard to find anything not to like in this hotel. Great location, friendly staff, spacious rooms, wonderful, healthy breakfast to start the day. The suite in which we stayed had a full kitchen, stocked with everything needed to cook a "homemade" meal. The gondola is just across the street, but surprisingly quiet, and adds a beautiful dimension to the mountainside and creek view. Enjoyed every minute of our stay. read more
