I had mentioned do you know anyone that needs a dog stroller, she said oh we could use one so I gave her mine -- it cost me $189.00 but I wanted to support her. I also gave her a new $50 dog bed and cover I took a glance inside her trailer and honestly it was very dirty, but I chose to look past that and be kind. She told me she traveled often between Durango and Dolores and offered to trim my dogs' nails in the future. I truly believed her and appreciated the offer. Later, when I reached out for that nail trim, she told me she wasn't coming back to this area and that I could either drive two hours or seven hours one way to meet her. That was incredibly upsetting. I'm caring for a husband with dementia -- long trips like that aren't possible for me. I gave from the heart, without expecting much -- just a little follow-through. Instead, I was left feeling used. It hurt to be treated like that after doing so much to help her. All I can say is this business is very self absorbed. I truly understand that the drive economically would Not be beneficial. I even offered to meet in Montrose I visit all The time. I think the bottom line she did not want to trim four sweet goldens with an exception of one being difficult. This is why I tried my best to compensate. She was the one that told Me of course I come To your area just call. Plus her cost to trim four dogs was 100.00 so on that day she made out with 339.00. Disappointed....lesson learned, but I did what my heart told me at the time some people are just takers.

Ridgway was able to get our pup in for surgery that day, and also kept him there comfortably while we left to pack and handle the logistics of the attack. For such a tough situation, they were an absolute BLESSING and beyond helpful. From our experiences with Doctor Steven R. Smolen at the Animal Hospital of Telluride, we would say that he suffers from moral depravity. We have taken all three of our dogs to his clinic over time but recently our little 15 year old 16 pound guy went into convulsions and was yelping uncontrollably at the top of his capacity. I instantly called the The Animal Hospital of Telluride and then called the emergency number. It was just after 5pm on a Wednesday. Doctor Smolen answered the phone and I ended up FaceTiming with him so he could see the dire straits our little guy was in. He saw that Beau was thrashing so wildly and was hard to hold. Like a 16 pound fish out of water. Yelping so loud that I had to go to another part of the house so Dr. Smolen and I could hear each other. He kept repeating, "You have to take him to the emergency hospital in Grand Junction. I can't help you now." He told us four times to take him to Grand Junction. We are two and a half hours away from Grand Junction! Finally, in anger, I yelled at him and said it was a waste of time to talk to him and hung up. I called a vet in Montrose at 5:29pm (time stamp on the phone) and got the same response (Also a clinic where we have taken our three guys many times). At last, I got help from a vet that we had never been to and we were able to drug Beau and take him to a Grand Junction emergency hospital. While we were on the highway, Smolen sent a text: "I was quite incensed that you told me it was a waste of time talking to me..." He did this minutes after seeing how agonized Beau was and how traumatized we were and yet he could not help himself. Moral depravity. You can tell everything you need to know about a person by the way he or she treats animals and children. Not just their own If they have any but all animals and children. And by the way, Smolen's website says: "Emergencies and accidents seem to happen at the worst possible times... Our expert 24-hour care services will be there for you when you need us. Any time your pet has an emergency or a health problem, rest assured that quality veterinary help is nearby." In our experience just after 5pm on a Wednesday, this website is a lie. Also, I have saved the recordings of our experience with Sr. Smolen, so I have proof.

There is oustanding customer service and then there is what these people do! They took responsibility for a mistake that wasn't even theirs and owned it and went completely over the top in correcting it. In my 54 years on this planet, I have never been treated as well as I was today by the Dirt Dawg. Anytime my travels take me anywhere near Telluride I will be stopping by. This is how it's done. The company responded in an unacceptable fashion offing money vs. acknowledging the fact that their products are sub-par and doing something about it. We have bought collars for the 4 Bernese Mountain Dogs we've had over the years from Alpen Schatz…read more Once, I wanted a different design and went with a different company - the decorative studs came off and the collar stretched out during play. I immediately went back to Alpen Schatz, never to stray again! These collars last for years and years and look great. When one of our dogs passed away, I wanted one of the decorations from her collar to put with her ashes. The folks at Alpen Schatz suggested one of their key rings which would have both the stud and a nice piece of leather. I attached her dog tag to the key ring and it's a perfect remembrance. Fabulous workmanship, beautiful execution, lasting design. I recommend them highly.
