This campground is officially my favorite campground that I've ever been to. The staff were incredibly welcoming. The management was extremely knowledgeable about 4 x 4, offloading and fishing. This campground rents Jeeps! The jeeps even looked super clean. I was extremely impressed by the communication from the campground management in advance of our stay. Each morning we were welcomed with a text message inviting campers to enjoy some morning coffee. The campground is immaculate. I truly can't wait until I can return again. I was camping with my spouse who also encouraged me to leave this review because of her warm feelings left from the campground and the surrounding area. Ouray! They call it "little Switzerland". The drive alone could have you hanging on and avoiding to look over the ledge. When you finally reach the top, down below deep in the valley sits a quaint little town by the name of Ouray. The KOA sits on the edge of town but has its own distict charm and privacy. This is a beautifully kept venue. You drive in off the main road and they are greeting you when you stop to check in. The full service cabins (which is where we stay) are located towards the back area. You have your own individual parking and a stream runs along the back of each of these little homes away from home. They come with their own fire pit, porch and gas grill on the outside which is shaded by a large tree. As you walk in there is a queen bed, kitchenette and a full bathroom. Off to a small room their are bunk beds for the kids. My husband and I enjoy our stay here. The air is cool, there are activities availabe if you choose to particiapte but you can also just enjoy your time in the quiet. We go every year and have never been disappointed! read more

We have a 35 foot long RV with a car and two bikes- Dingy style towing. The access off the highway was perfect. The place was huge with plenty of space and options for all size Motorcoach and trailers. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The staff met us and had a dog bone in toe for our 4 legged kid. The only small complaint was that the dog park was a bit far from our spot. If you have a need for a dog park, perhaps ask for a spot close to it. read more

Kid friendly, dog friendly and clean My family of 3 (husband, wife and toddler) are regular car campers who prefer dispersed campsites. We were forced to use the KOA paid site as campsites being closed due to COVID crisis and we were surprisingly beyond satisfied with our experience at the site. The new owners who moved from Texas to Ouray were so very kind. The old school kids playground was loved every evening before dinner time by our 4 year old and us for the slide as well as hide and seek and tag. The bathrooms were consistently clean which was nice. Our dogs loved being able to be off leash at our campsite and the other dogs by us were friendly as well as the house dog at the front check in. We stayed here for the July 4th holiday It was over $600. I made the reservation months ago. Don't accept camp site # 63. They knew we had no kids and put us next to a Very busy playground. Busy from 7AM to 10PM! Plus next to movie night and a busy dusty corner lot. When we went to complain after 4 days of this Frank at the office was rude and said too bad Goodnight. He could have cared less. When I got upset he threatened to call the police! Worst customer service EVER. I have camped for years. read more

This place was great. We've been hitting RV parks all over Colorado this last two weeks and loved our time here. Apparently under new ownership but overall we got the best RV site we've had so far. Fires were allowed and they delivered ice and firewood to our site for us. Showers and restrooms were totally clean. But it's the staff that gets this place the 5 star rating. We made a jeep reservation with them and I guess they booked us for the wrong day and someone already had the jeep - which was kind of an issue because we needed it to do some things that night and to get us to a tour later, etc. These guys didn't bat an eye, this guy that works there during the summers but is from South Carolina (I'm bummed I don't remember his name...Ben maybe?) starts calling around and found me one in town, then loads me up in his own vehicle and drove me down there then stayed to make sure everything went okay. Top notch place, top notch people. We'll be back. Thank you guys for everything and I hope next year you have a liquor license! :) read more

This is, by far, the worst KOA I've ever stayed on. My first night was ok because we were in a cabin. But they didn't have one available for the second night. So we rented a tent site. Now, the problem is they have made tent sites in the middle of the driveway. This is on the main two way entrance, where you park your vehicle to go to checking. The traffic is constant, even after midnight. Between the noise and the dust it's impossible to sleep. If you are lucky enough to get one of those tent sites at the back of the camp, please disregard this review. But, if you were placed on one of this front entrance sites, you are better off sleeping in your car, on the side of the highway. Note: the staff were super nice, but the greed of this ownership it has made this campground a terrible experience for this tent camper. read more

My husband and I stayed at this KOA for 3 days during our first visit to Ouray. I loved how spacious each site was; we felt bunched up at the KOA we stayed at previously, but this campground gave each camper their own personal space. During our stay we used their bathrooms and showers; both were very well maintained and clean. They also had a designated area near the bathrooms where you could wash your dishes, which came in handy. The campground also had a small store for miscellaneous things that you might have forgotten at home such as food, toiletries, cooking accessories and also cute souvenirs. :) They also had a cafe on site that offered breakfast and lunch; it's perfect if you don't want to leave to get something, because it's a little bit of a drive to the surrounding restaurants. The only downfall was that it's a severe dead zone(KOA can't help that) and the WiFi that they advertise didn't work for us. I'm not sure if it was just our carrier(T-Mobile), but we couldn't get service in both of the closest towns(Ouray and Ridge Way) and we had a hard time looking up activities and restaurants for the remaining trip. Luckily everyone in both towns were extremely nice and pointed us to the right direction of what to do and where to eat. If you're looking for a campground with amazing scenery, this is definitely the spot! Both Ouray and Ridge Way are hands down the most beautiful places we've ever visited! We were on the last leg of our first RV family trip. We'd been going pretty hard for a week, so this was the perfect place to end for a couple of days. It looked like a winter wonderland when we got there- certainly the most stunning location of any KOA we've ever seen. When we arrived (on Thanksgiving evening), the owners were so sweet in welcoming us and showing us around. We rented a Jeep from them the next day to explore the area. This is probably the best KOA I've stayed in. Let me start by saying all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, going out of their way to accommodate a couple of requests they could have easily not accommodated. The grounds are perfectly tended, as are the cabins. It's set in fairly heavy woods so the shade is great on a warm summer day. It even has a fast moving small stream running through it. You always feel close to the mountains you've come to visit despite being tucked away in a campground. On top of that given the prices to stay in Ouray, you really can't beat their rates. read more

We had an awesome stay at Ouray KOA. The aspens were changing and we were surrounded by awesome views at all times! The facility was clean, staff had covid precautions in place. Showers and restrooms were heated and kept clean at all tomes. My car battery got discharged and Hunter and another gentleman happily jump started our vehicle. They deliver firewood to your campsite as well which is great. We left my son's vest behind and was found and turned in. Kendall happily took the time to process return shipping back to us. We love staying here for our annual Ouray trips! The staff is extremely accommodating and helpful. We love seeing the same faces each year when we check in. We wanted to move cabins as we somehow we were assigned the same one from the year before and wanted to stay in a different spot. They really worked with us to make sure we were happy and lucky they were able to switch to the one we wanted. I recommend getting a cabin by the babbling brook. However it can be pretty noisy in front of the restaurant if you care to sleep in. We didn't mind too much! The loud speaker is a tad startling when they call for order pick ups bright and early! They have a restaurant on site that serves up a delicious breakfast. We found it was one of the best places to eat in Ouray for breakfast. The showers are always hot and super clean! We also love that they have two locations with several showers. We never have to wait long to snag one. They also have a game room attached to a laundry mat that we took advantage of. Along with a small store with food and neat souvenirs. We can't wait to come back next year! read more

This is a KOA holiday (but not really). This KOA Holiday is gorgeous and beautiful for walks and jeeping but there is no playground or pool, which is traditionally a requirement of the Holiday category. It would have been nice for the kids to have a place to gather and play, so we were missing this element. However, they don't need to attract any more customers because the location is phenomenal. Make sure to stroll the dog walking area as it is breathtaking. We have stayed here twice and have had fun both times. read more

BBQ at the Creekside Cafe earlier this evening...very unique place just down the road from us, with live music, outdoor dining and super friendly people. BBQed chicken, brisket and ribs, plus baked beans, coleslaw and baked potato with sour cream, all can make for an absolutely wonderful meal. Next time, however, I will probably try the Green Goddess salad, just for the sake of variety. Loved the live music, as the dude was playing mostly songs from the 70s. We're full time campers and have stayed at quite a few campgrounds the last few months and this one is hands down the best one we've been to yet! Grace, Eric and Lou are the employees who make this place! All three are amazing individuals who go out of their way to make sure that you're taken care of. We originally planned to stay two weeks but we loved it here so much that Grace worked her magic and was able to secure two more weeks for us in our same spot. Grace and Eric and pulled through for us again on the week of the 4th and got us in for another week. Update Sept 2019: still our favorite KOA in Colorado so far. Been told that there are new owners coming at the beginning of 2020, hopefully the KOA keeps the riverside cabins and the wonderful breakfast restaurant. My only critique would be to improve the WiFi.. as it can be very slow at times, even while right under the transmitter. The WiFi is helpful for those of us who don't have reception in ouray (T-Mobile, didn't have reception the entire time.. sprint on the other hand, seemed to have an extended option that worked). I hope the new ownership doesn't negatively change my view of the property. read more

2 Bad KOA's in a row. Normally I am able to write positive reviews for RV parks but our group just encountered less than stellar service at two different KOA's. The 1st I reviewed separately and here is the 2nd. We are travelling in a group of 3 rvs so naturally we book well in advance. In this case we booked in February for a July 19-22 stay. We simply asked for 3 hookup sites all together as we have our meals together. 2 of our sites are side by side but the 3rd is 10 sites away. I am 73 years old, I have bursitis and it is hard to walk even that far especially in the July heat. After 3 conversations with the office they were unwilling to swap any of the incoming guests so that I could be closer to my group. I for one am getting fed up with the KOA organization. read more

The main reason for our rating is after our stay at this very expensive RV site, after dumping our tanks on our way out they tried to tell us they were going to charge us $15 for using the dump station. No campground ever charges their own paying guests a fee to use the dump station. And this was never mentioned on the KOA website before our booking, not even a sign at the dump station, no mention anywhere. They just tried to tell us they were going to charge us after we used it. And that was just the final excessive added charge on top of an already overpriced campground. They charged $20 (!) to let us choose the campsite location (normally free at other campgrounds), a $6 "resort" fee (WTF this is not a resort, that's just another deceptive hidden fee, just tell us your actual real entire price). And the onsite restaurant charges $16 for a hamburger according to their website, but we missed eating there because the hours listed on their website were wrong and they were closed at the time they listed as open. After walking the kids to the playground shown on the map we found that it wasn't there (they're replacing it). There isn't anything to do in the area, and it's a drive to get back to Ouray. The wifi internet only partially worked because apparently it has a filter on it that blocks much of the internet (I couldn't access my work VPN, or Discord). We found another campground actually located in the town of Ouray for almost half the price because they don't have all the add-on fees, and their internet works fully. On the positive side, the KOA does have tons of staff people everywhere (more employees than we've ever seen at a campground), and the staff are nice and helpful. read more

We tent camped here in 2019 and were given a grassy, large campsite. It wasn't our first pick this year because KOAs are so commercialized but after needing to re book our camping trip due to COVID, it was the only place in the Ouray area with a reservable tent site open. This year when we tent camped here, we were given the tiniest campsite among a sea of other tiny tent campsites- leaving your tent literally 4 feet from your each neighbor tent. We couldn't even social distance from our neighbors at 6 feet apart. We did not have enough room to safely use our fire ring - we could not fit a 2 person tent, our Subaru Outback, the tiny table they provide and the provided fire ring in the site and be able to not catch our tent or the neighbors' tents on fire while using the fire ring. So we couldn't have a fire one single night for a week. Seems like the tent sites were literally cut in half size-wise. They just shoved as many tents and campers into this place as possible. $40/night for that? A joke. As people who live in Colorado & love this state, the worst part about our experience was the amount of trash, food, etc that fellow campers left out. The KOA does nothing to deter or address this (unless you count a sign on the bathroom door that says you're in bear country). In fact, they got rid of half of their dumpsters this year compared to last and tell you to leave your trash at the end of the campsite and they'll come pick it up (shocker: they did not). What did this result in? Bear visits. Every. Single. Night. Also because of the insane amount of food & trash everyone leaves out, the campsite are swarming with ants (listen, we camp a lot - we are used to bugs - this was on another level). For some reason, no one seems to understand that this is the Rockies? There are bears? They aren't afraid to come into a KOA? *Shocking* Take a cue from state and national park campgrounds where they give out notices or fines, and will clear anything you leave out and you have to shamefully for pick it up from the office. Nothing scented is to be outside of your car or a bear bin - it's a fairly simple rule. Just because you're a commercialized campground with amenities doesn't mean you get to disregard simple, but important rules of enjoying the outdoors in Colorado. Also, it's no wonder we have such a human-caused wildfire issue here in Colorado - we saw multiple people go to bed without putting out their fires. Again, no monitoring of this by the KOA. We even texted the text line where you can ask for firewood, explaining there was an unattended fire burning for 3 hours now next door, but no one responded to our concern. Campers have an individual responsibility, but so does the campground. We've seen it at other campgrounds where these issues are a priority, as they should be. Overall, the entire attitude at this place from campers & staff is just ignorance. Incredibly disappointing to witness and experience this happening in our state. Will not be returning to another KOA. read more

I would not return to this KOA, it feels like a place where jeepers crash at night, only to return and kick up dust around the camp by day. We were in an RV, but I also felt sad for the people I saw in tents, surrounded on both sides by dusty roads of traffic in and out....Hopefully ownership will invest in landscaping, improve privacy, pave some roads and improve overall quality. We've been coming here for 10 years now. The facilities are very nice and clean. The owners clearly take pride in this place. The sites are well cared for and spaced nicely, unlike the one In town one that's a glorified parking lot. The location is perfect for all the area activities, and it's a nice distance off the highway so it's peaceful. On our last visit we wound up next to a loud partying group, but the staff did a nice job of keeping them quiet during quiet hours so we could still enjoy ourselves. read more

This place is quiet, it has a stream and a pond, and really nice shower and restroom facilities. It's not far from Telluride or Ridgeway. I can't say enough about this place. So my husband made reservations back in December and had gotten confirmation from one of the owners about having two sites right next to each other. So we show up, 4th of July week and the sites aren't next to each other. They said there was nothing they could do and we even walked up to the office like 5 different times trying to talk to the owner who was never available. We went ahead and just set up on one site and left the second empty. Well then they started renting that second site out so we went up and asked them if they were going to give us a refund and they said no.. what a scam. So they are making double on a site for a whole week. So ridiculous. I would double confirm any reservations you make at this place and if there is an issue I wouldn't leave that office until you speak to the owner otherwise you are gonna get f'd. read more

The camp is located at a beautiful spot and the amenities like playground, dog park, cafe and eateries seem to be accommodating and fun for the guests. We were there during our road trip in October, 2020 and while liking the place, it rubbed our nerve with adding charges for the extra 2 people last minute during check in claiming that what we got quoted and paid over the phone for incorrect (Airbnb total would have been cheaper) then the cabin was underprepared with completely lacking bedding in the bunk bed. The upper bunk bed was filled with a dog hair from the previous guests and upon informing them then the housekeeper came over to do the beds and bringing bedding to the cabin without wearing mask. I asked her to wear her mask then she had to drive back to get her mask. Not sure if this place is following any safety regulations during the worldwide pandemic. Also there was no mattress cover on the vinyl bunk bed mattress and the linens were cheap polyester material and only thin polyester blanket was provided and the housekeeper's response was, turn on your heat which didn't work at all in the second bedroom. It felt cold from the vinyl mattress, polyester linens and lack of proper cover and didn't want it to get bother us by ending our rather much needed fantastic vacation during the pandemic but the owners or operators lack of heart and care for their guests experience and attitude towards these issues during their slow season were concerning. My advise is take your business elsewhere or simply camp in your tent during the midst of the winter which could have been warmer than sleeping on mattress with polyester linens and no cover. I imagine it's probably worse during their peak season if the care and attitude towards their guest experience is this poor. read more

We were in town on vacation on 07-08-15 and decided to stay at the KOA. It is located about 5 minutes north of town. The people were very friendly. The campground is large and has cabins available for rent, along with spots for camper trailers and tents. The campground is very quiet during the evening, but in the morning there is a bit of traffic from people coming and going with their jeeps. We were in a tent, so a camper trailer may be a lot quieter. The campground has a small country store for groceries, supplies, and souviners. They sell homemade pizza for take out. There is also a kitchen around back where they serve burgers in the evening and breakfast in the morning. There is a hot tub located near the office. Also laundry, bathrooms, and showers attached to the office building. The campground is in a scenic area with a small stream running through the campground. My only complaint was that the bathrooms were a bit messy when we had used them in the morning. They usually clean them around noon, so they hadn't been cleaned since the previous day. They also had Jeep rentals available for those looking to explore some of the mountain trails. read more

When looking at reviews I am always curious on the low ratings because I think they say a lot. I mostly give great ratings when I have extraordinary experiences but sometimes I feel it necessary to give low ratings when you leave so sad and disappointed by your experience. This is one of those times! We have been camping at the Ouray KOA every summer for 17 years. The live music and BBQ on the weekends, the playground where our kids could play, the game room where they could hang out and meet other kids. Everything was perfectly executed; clean bathrooms, friendly staff and spacious spots. This last trip was a HUGE disappointment; the playground has been removed, the game room (changed to a 'bar-like scene - with TVs?) and the once spacious and somewhat private spots have been squeezed into more spots. Our tent spot was so close to the next space it was uncomfortable. Every nook of the acreage has been made into a spot. The bathrooms were NOT clean, I felt it necessary to wear my mask into the private bathroom. During these Covid times, the effort to clean the bathroom multiple times a day should be a must! Why fix it, if it ain't broke. I miss the former owners and I will sorely miss the yearly camping trips to what was once a very magical place. Greedy new owners didn't think before they made these renovations. I am going to quote another yelp review that I totally agree with: "Truly heartbreaking how these new owners have destroyed this once lovely getaway into a dusty, crowded, and unhealthy money machine." read more
