My mother with dementia ended up going to an emergency room, and then immediately to a memory care facility. Regardless of the fact that we did not see this coming, extended family home care continued to bill for 2 weeks worth of services which was about 1,200+ only because they were not notified of cancelling services. We had two other home care agencies providing services and neither one of them had this unethical billing policy. On top of that, some of the caregivers did not seem to provide quality care. And also had inconsistent caregiving services, with some cancelling last minute or did not even had the right skill level to care for my mother.

A few days later I saw their several 1 star reviews here on Yelp all disappear and only 2 reviews remained. One 1 star and one 5 star. The 1 stars consistently had a theme of being overcharged or charged for things that never performed. So when setting up the paperwork for their services I made sure it was not on auto payment. To dis-incentivize from paying by check they required some crazy amount upfront as a deposit. Check was the preferred payment but they have a $150 service fee to even start service. They insisted it be paid before anything started, like they didn't trust me to pay it, and offered check and credit cards as payment options. I offered to meet her with the check the morning of the first day of service, but she couldn't meet so i offered to pay by credit card, but to please send me an invoice or request for payment for the $150 (assumably with info of how to provide the credit card payment). After thinking about it more, paying by credit card seemed safer since I saw there were so many issues with others paying for services not executed, but she refused to send an "invoice" and after which she said what was requested is not in their scope. I asked specifically what was not in scope but several months later and still no response. Each Visiting Angels is a franchise so you will get totally different teams with each location. I remember years ago they were so messed up they didn't even return calls for a long time, and when they did they were still super disorganized. I hope if in my lifetime I get a visiting angel some day, that it isn't a revenue driven one, which is the opposite of what an angel is all about. Some may have great experiences with them, but just the upfront process of them being super nice sales people quickly turned into craziness on a dime. Perhaps I dodged a bullet and just saved myself a huge nightmare of a future situation. So perhaps I should feel very lucky. I honestly, with two different bad situations, think this organization is off my list for any considerations ever, and recommend you dig further to ensure they are a "match" for what you are looking for. At $60/an hour for custom care (-at a facility) vs your home) and $47/hr for in home companionship, they seem a bit pricey to me since none are skilled and am sure many are not US Citizens. Wonder if my review will disappear too?

Abandoned the care of my loved one repeatedly…read more When it was pointed out that no call no shows impact people they promised to no call no show more often to teach a lesson that it is "distressful" to say the no call no shows to scheduled hours impact the people being served and depending on someone showing up. Staff have no working phones on a regular basis ( due to not paying the phone bill), do not show up in time (4-5 hours late), leave cleaning supplies all over, will lock themselves in the bathroom for up to an hour "cleaning" and walk out with nothing cleaned. Threw away a working appliance without permission or any logical reason to do so. Staff were told that all the no call no shows of hours were causing a decline in health and remedy was needed and the reasons was "well we are not coming then today since you said that." They decided the appropriate remedy to neglect of an at risk adult is more neglect to tech a lesson to not speak up about neglect. They hired one administrative employee that was so verbally abusive witnesses filed a police report that person is no longer with the company but the issues are persisting. They freely celebrate neglect of clients by the staff they hire and if anyone says hey, we actually need to d are providers to show up, they they say they will cancel hours for mentioning no call no shows of schedule hours impact the people they are supposed to be caring for. One caregiver is so sloppy we came to our loved one's home with dirty dishes in the dish drainer with food all on them. Things were half done and we had to step in and clean up all the messes this person left. There is no management of this company. It's staffed by mean girls being mean and caregivers that do whatever the hell they what because no one is giving oversight. One time they sent many texted to our sick and disabled loved one arguing a week is 8 days long not 7 days long. No one understood the point. Poorly managed and operated company.

Michelle is likely your first point of contact since she is, I believe, the Director of "Sales and Marketing" (?). Kara I believe works for her and fills in for Michelle when needed. Both are fabulous, but Michelle really knows her stuff and understands what needs to be done if you are thinking of being part of their community. The place itself is really nice and elegant, with lots of energy and positive activities. Beautiful walking area outside for memory care residents. Trails right outside to walk, are abundant and also very nice as you walk thru the park right there/golf course. Different sized Rooms make up assisted living (AL) --studio, 1 BR, 2 BR. Memory care (MC) only has 2 sizes of studios--385 and 520 sq feet. The views you have contribute to the price as well. They also have Assisted Living with their Essentials support, provides a bridge between AL and MC. Food is pretty nice. Heritage week was being offered where unique foods from other areas around the world were being featured. Service was pretty great. Kind, compassionate when talking to residents. Beautiful set-up with dishes being offered on display as you walk in. Love the front desk team. All super nice and energetic. Very knowledgable and helpful. A nice sized theater for movies. Arts and crafts room. Library space. Outside deck/seats and tables with a very calming and beautiful view. Exercise class in the morning and other activities throughout the day. The team at CHAL went above and beyond to help her settle in and feel comfortable in her new home. They were patient, kind, and always took the time to make sure she was doing okay. They have been of service while she was at Libby Bortz Assisted Living (awesome facility) and now as the Manor on Marston (another awesome facility). Dealing with end of life isn't easy and emotions run high. Moving loved ones into and out of assisted facilities is stressful on everyone. Managing everyone's expectations isn't easy. The staff from Agape has done and continues to do an outstanding job balancing all these things. Yes, things go a bit wrong, someone may forget something etc, but it's how you handle and correct the mis steps that speaks to your true intent and here, Agape, is excellent. They have been honest if they miss something and they appropriately and mindfully push back when needed to the family when in the best interest of the patient. The staff from nursing, personal care, PT, volunteers, Chaplin's, visiting animals, etc have been amazing. My mom has nothing but praise for each. She looks forward to each of their visits as they are way more than just medical visits. Please keep in mind the difficult situation when thinking about an evaluation. When I place myself in their shoes or my moms, they are an outstanding, dedicated team of caregivers who truly care. What more can as for?
