Out-U-Go! in Oak Park has been a lifesaver on quite a few occasions! My mom sometimes has to work late and the Out U Go team comes right over and takes me out. (I would be mortified if I ever had to go in the house!) When mom goes on business trips, they make it possible for me to stay at home instead of going somewhere where I have to spend my time in a smallish wire box with too much noise... The team is always friendly -- they give me lots of loving, and throw in some treats! They don't mind feeding me my special food and giving me medicine when it's allergy season. They are always amazed at my energy...how fast I can run the stairs, how I talk to everyone...absolutely everyone! And are even understanding when I have to tell the big dogs on the other side of the street that I am every bit as tough as them. Sometimes I get in the first word AND the last on that topic! They always take care to make sure I get the right amount of exercise, that I have plenty of time to take care of business -- they always check my water, and scratch my belly. One of them even said that I have "buff buns"...must be all that agility work I do. There were a couple times my scaredy cat hid from the sitter and couldn't be medicated. It pains me to write a bad review about Out-U-Go because I really, really wanted to like this place. Mostly, because I travel quite a lot both for business and pleasure, and a reliable pet sitter is crucial for me to have at-hand anywhere I live. With that, I have to also point out that I have used two other sitter services for my cat in the past in other locations I've lived (one in Palatine and one in the East Lakeview area of Chicago, both of which I've reviewed here on Yelp with 5-star ratings). The disclaimer to this review is that I hired a sitter over Thanksgiving, so the holiday may have caused a few of the issues that irked me in the end. 1. Similarly to what a Yelp reviewer also posted for Out-U-Go, I too had several sitters come in to care of my cat while I was away (at least 4). The only difference with myself and that Yelper was that I was out of the country, not just out of state, and I was at the mercy of whomever was in possession of my keys at the time. This made me very unhappy. The other services I have used gave me a dedicated sitter during my entire time as a client, not every single visit. 2. Out-U-Go does not provide text message or email updates. Again, I have to compare it to the other services I've used where I would get text messages in addition to notes left on the counter after each visit. This ensured that the sitter was coming at the time promised and gave me an instant sense of calm and relief wherever I was in the US. When I went out of the country last year, the sitter even emailed me with pictures each day! However, when I asked the manager about text/email updates, she informed me that they do not offer those services. 3. Cost. The cost for each visit is astronomical. I even had to send the manager a comparison shop of other sitter services in the area. She eventually agreed to taking a small amount off per visit (no more than $2) and although I appreciated the gesture and the call to explain that they charge more because they're bonded and insured (etc.) what I really wanted to say was, "So!". The other two pet services I've used (including the one in one of the trendiest parts on Chicago) cost nearly $10 less per visit, cost less for surcharges like holiday visits and waived weekend fees and were also bonded and insured. 4. I know it's a little thing, but this year I got a Christmas card from the Chicago pet sitter, personally signed by the manager and the sitter who used to care of my cat. This year I got an e-card from Out-U-Go that wasn't personalized at all. Kind of a bummer. Quite honestly, I will never use Out-U-Go again. I know they probably mean well, have dedicated staff, and are working to make their services exceptional, but they're missing key elements to make them competitive in the market. Without small gestures like text messages, lower prices and dedicated sitters for each client, I don't know who would want to continue to use their services. Wonderful service for my furry family members. We were going out of town and didn't want to board our cats since one of them gets seriously stressed out when he has to be away from home. I was excited to read the notes when I got home, it was a fun way to hear about how everything went. It is a bit pricier than other services I've used, but it was not too much more and worth it to know my cats were in good hands. I'd recommend the services and use it again. I thought this service was excellent. My RVP's (that's a long story) took pity on Izzy and I (my dog and I) while I was recovering and could not walk her. At first I didn't want to trust anyone with my girl but forced myself and I was not sorry. They are professional, kind, friendly and obviously they all love dogs. This last time Rich and John did most of the walking and it became a ritual for Izzy to wait for them at the front window. Everyone you talk to via phone is courteous and helpful. I would not trust any other service to take care of my dog. The staff is extremely professional and accommodating. Out-u-go goes above and beyond what I have asked. Oftentimes I am called to attend last minute meetings and they have always been available to accommodate my requests. The dogwalkers are very friendly and I love reading the report card that my dog gets after every walk. A disappointment. This service was recommended by a friend who has used them for years. However, when we hired them to pet sit our cat while we were away for a week, it turned out to be a disappointing experience. I have asked them beforehand, whether they would be able to come at the same time every day and was assured it was not a problem. However, it turned out they were visiting at random hours and not the same person, but five different people! During one of the visits they set off the alarm system and the police came, and we had to deal with the situation late at night (via cell phone) from another state. Another time they forgot to arm the alarm... Out-U-Go apologized to us for the problems they caused and reduced our fee, but really, who needs this kind of stress when you are trying to go on vacation? And they are not cheap! I really expected a much more professional service. read more

We have had repeated issues with Out U Go. Their sitters lack basic problem solving skills which make it difficult to trust them. One set off our house alarm but rather than calling us or OUG, they just left our dog with sirens blaring and never giving him his walk. On other occasions when they couldn't find his food, they left without feeding him. The final straw was when they no-showed for a scheduled visit, resulting in the compromised health and safety of our pup. Two thumbs way down. read more

These guys are very well organized, flexible and reliable. They leave a note after each walk with details and my dog (who is quite timid) seems to have adjusted to them well. I use the office in oak park and they are extremely responsive--always call back and double check dates, etc. My only disappointment is the lack of consistency in walkers. In a month there have been 5. Weekends have a different group. I'm a nurse, so I work an odd schedule but my old walkers used no more than 3 people (with 2 regulars). Maybe it will shake out over time. I did mention it to them and will update this later. read more

When we started using outugo a few years back, they were ok. Never really liked their uninformative, not believable notes at the end of visits, or the lack of electronic notification after a visit, but they seemed to do the job. Not of late though. Our dog has medical issues, of which they are well aware. On multiple recent visits, they failed, for example, to feed him despite painstakingly clear instructions. Never acknowledged our complaints or offered any sort of explanation. Today, despite confirming a visit, they failed to come at all. After being away 12hrs we came home to vomit on the floor, and a seriously freaked out dog. We will find a replacement for this service. If you care about your pet, you cannot put your trust in these people or this business. read more

I've been using Out-U-Go for years. It's very convenient, once you have an account established. I just send them an email to request dog walking, or feeding. My dog is a big fan of playgroup. They pick her up in a van and take her to a play area with other dogs. She's usually pretty tired after that so I know she's been running around a lot. The dog walkers have all been great, too. Originally, I did not sign up for regular visits, and found their reservation system (by phone, email or web-form) to be very easy and convenient to use. The deadlines for scheduling a visit are reasonable, and it's easy to do day-of reservations. I love the "report card" messages we get for each visit, and I never worry when I've arranged to have them come in and get Heidi out for a walk, or even feed her when we have evening plans.
