Lynda did a complete design and managed the installation of my new back yard sanctuary. Working with her was a true joy and I am so grateful to have found her. She is extremely talented and creative, aside from her deep knowledge and expertise with plants, hardscape, furniture, lighting, etc. From the very beginning, she had excellent ideas and recommendations, while she was never attached to the outcomes and always supported my decisions. We worked together through every step of the project, and her experience and thoughtful input were critical at many decision points where she knew more than the actual project manager and many of the contractors. Aside from the overall design, Lynda also designed the custom fountain, the finish on the concrete, the custom side table for the spa, and the finish on the deck. She also recommended several contractors including the amazing muralist, Mo Wakili, who painted the Mediterranean scene on the side of my home. Her resources included the sculpturist, Philip Glashoff (the two metal women sculptures) and a source for the furniture and many of the beautiful addiitonal pieces. I could not be more delighted with the result that started with a yard of dirt and broken concrete. It's a miracle and I owe it all to Lynda. We used Lynda for our backyard landscape project last year. Upon our initial meeting we asked her to think outside the box and have fun while designing a modern backyard. However, we wanted to veer from typical modern design softscape to include drought tolerant plants that attract bees, butterflies, and hummers (we wanted flowers and lots of color). We gave her several hardscape and softscape inspiration pics and asked her to incorporate them into the design. She listened to all our ideas, gave us her thoughts and presented two designs. We wanted to complete redo our front yard which included replacing our driveway, walkway, and porch along with removing all of our lawn and replacing it with drought tolerant plants. Our experience with this landscape designer is through our neighbors. She has caused a fair bit of grief for us by selecting a tree that will be 25 to 35 feet wide at maturity and then planting it in their yard only 3 feet from our fence in an area where the houses are only 20 feet apart. In addition, the tree is planted only about 8 feet from the neighbors house and foundation. (Recommendations for the type of tree are 15 feet from any foundation.) I don't know if she doesn't think through how the yard is going to age, but it seems highly inappropriate to recommend a planting scheme where the garden you are designing is going to encroach as much as 10 feet into the neighbor's yard (which is not very big to begin with). When we raised the issue, our neighbors said they were willing to move the tree but the landscaper was going to charge them to fix the issue - which is not right since they are not the ones who chose the tree. If you use this designer, just make sure you review all the plant selections and understand the long term impact to you and your neighbors. Do not assume that she is taking care of it. read more

Lynda was recommended to me by a good friend. I had a backyard that had been hastily done when I moved into my new construction house. I wanted low maintenance, and it was, but it was uninspiring and ugly. When Lynda came out to meet with me, we spent time walking through the backyard seeing what we could reuse and how it could be redone. Lynda totally understood that I wanted a pretty oasis to look out on and to use. Lynda's landscaping crew (Misael is great!) transformed my yard over the course of a couple of weeks. It's now interesting, tranquil, and a total bird magnet! I've seen robins, hummingbirds, and warblers on a daily basis bathing in my fountain and enjoying the flowers. Our experience with Outer Visions was decidedly less than pleasant. While the design itself was beautiful, Lynda failed to take into account some issues that were requirements. She produced a design that: - Failed to design the pergola in such a way that it would shade the requested window - Placed our vegetable boxes such that they would only ever receive sun on half of the area - Designed a gate that would make it a complete hassle to move our trash bins to and from their location - Recommended plants that will not grow in our area After looking at the design and consulting with our landscaper and realizing that changes needed to be made, she was a bit put out at having to redesign some of these failings. And then, despite being given the exact changes we requested to the pergola and trash bins, failed to incorporate these into the new design. And finally, when we asked for the PDF so that we could give up on her and modify it ourselves, we were informed that the giant unwieldy paper versions were the only versions available, as she does not do any work digitally. She may be a fine designer, but we expected someone that would understand the finer aspects of the results of those designs. If we had not double checked her work, we would be struggling with serious sun issues at this point. read more

I am so very glad we chose Outer Visions Landscape Design to update and redesign our front and back yards! We have a challenging piece of land to work with. It is almost an acre, with areas of steep slope and lots of California native oak trees in the front and quite a bit of hardscape and a pool in the back. Lynda used her extensive knowledge of vegetation along with her artistic eye to select just the right plant for every spot. She knew which plants were deer proof, how big they'd get and how well they will look next to one-another and was able to create our dreamscape! She also has a lot of connections for high quality subcontractors that do excellent work (it's obvious that they respect and like working with Lynda too). Lynda redesigned our backyard and side yard several years ago. Her creative vision gave us a backyard that is beautiful and we enjoy everyday. I wanted a water feature and she and her crew were able to give me more then that, they were able to designed a waterfall which I thought would never be possible and is just beautiful and such a visual appeal. We contracted Lynda to design a completely new entrance to our house and new front/side yard (we have a corner block) to replace expansive grass. We had some pretty challenging requests: a bird/bee/butterfly friendly, low water/mediterranean climate garden with all year interest incorporating some specific fruit trees. Lynda did a fantastic job with the plant selections, particularly, and the overall design of the garden and hardscaping in general. The plants have been very thoughtfully selected so we do indeed have a low water garden with all year interest including spectacular winter blooming grevillea that burst forth at Christmas time much to the delight of the hummingbirds. We had monarch butterflies flapping around during the late summer and bubblebees and hummingbirds throughout the entire winter much to the delight of our kids. Our water bills dropped substantially in the first year even though we were watering the plants to get them established and we expect to further reduce our water usage this year now that the plants are better established. My wife and I get a lot of pleasure from the garden and regularly wander around to see what is happening and appreciate the plants as they grow and flower. People driving/walking past our property frequently stop to comment on the garden as well. What a difference great landscaping makes to a house and the neighborhood! read more
