So chef Katherine and crew did an absolutely perfect event. The food was superb. We also did a ukulele player for the cocktail and dinner time and that's a must do. After dinner we had a fabulous Hawaiian show. And chef Katherine arranged it all! We did a dinner for 8 adults and 2 kids at a house we rented. The kids has a different menu and they loved it. Not only were our meals scrumptious, each meal was uniquely prepared whether it had an Asian, Italian, Mexican, French, and Hawaiian flare, and beautifully presented. We throughly enjoyed every morsel. Her attention to detail is evident in everything from ascertaining our likes/dislikes, creating the menus, to perfectly executing each meal. We were totally blown away, and she and her team far exceeded our expectations. Only the best local and fresh products were used, whether it was fish, lobster, prawns, lamb, beef, pork, and a variety of fruits. Her team members, Jacqui and Jennifer, also did an amazing job beautifully setting up the table, and assisting Chef Katherine serve us in a seamless manner. They were professional, while extremely personable and warm turning every meal into a special event. We felt as if we had been friends for years. They lovingly made our granddaughter the center of attention. Although, it's impossible to pick a favorite meal, the highlight was the interactive birthday dinner for our granddaughter's 3rd birthday party. This is the second time I've had the pleasure of eating Chef Katherine's food and it was even more remarkable than I remember it being the first time. From boldly flavorful yet delicate appetizers to tasty Mai Tais served in copper pineapple glasses, this was a dining experience I won't soon forget. Prawns drizzled in truffle oil and topped with blue cheese accompanied with the mai tia was a perfect start to the meal. We then moved to a mushroom egg roll that you would think a bit heavy before dinner, but turned out to be a light crispy treat that I could probably eat 12 of if Chef Katherine would let me. The main course was a sesame encrusted ono with amazingly flavorful coconut rice. It's at this point in the meal that you start to question why you haven't been eating coconut rice with every meal your whole life. The fish is incredibly fresh and topped with a ginger and Tahitian sauce so good it leaves you with the face a child has after discovering ice cream for the first time. The meal ends with a chocolate lava cake with brown sugar and bourbon at the center of it. Perfectly rich, light and moist. Though there were other incredibly delicious bites, these were by far my favorite. My husband planned a wonderful dinner for my 40th birthday in Keauhou Bay with my closest friends in a 2-story beach house. Initially, we contacted Chef Katherine but she was already booked for my birthdate in January, so she recommended her partner in Outrageous Gourmet, Chef David Paul. He is the most patient and personable professional my husband pleasantly worked with to put my birthday dinner together. (Sometimes my husband is not the easiest person to work with.) My husband and I planned a vacation to the big island of Hawaii to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. I envisioned a Hawaiian ceremony on the beach for our vow renewal, flowers, a photographer, and a gourmet meal cooked at our rented town house. While she is busy, she was always available immediately or within a day of when I called. She was very patient answering any questions or concerns I had. Our 50th anniversary was everything I asked for. The flowers were lovely, the ceremony was wonderful with the conch shell, chanting, and the explanation of Hawaiian traditions. While I haven't seen the pictures yet, the photographer took charge, was patient and when we asked for poses, he was happy to accommodate us. Now, the food was exceptional, 5 stars. We had a family trip at Kona Beach Bungalows in late January 2019. I contacted Katherine about one week before our arrival. She was amazing. She organized a Luau with all the bells and whistles. My wish was to have a luau the wasn't "cheesy", authentic entertainment and gourmet food. Katherine delivered on point with everything. The food was absolutely delicious and creative and the service was outstanding The luau entertainment was awesome. Multi-generational family including young kids doing the hula, fire batons, singing, dancing etc... Katherine arranged for lovely eukalele play and singing during cocktails and dinner. my fiance and i had to plan our destination wedding with family/parents coming from broad and it was super stressful - neither of us had ever been to the big island before. the first wedding planner/caterer did not work out --- in fact it was a horrible experience -- i turned to the manager of the house we'd reserved via vrbo asking desperately for a local reference and she (a professional catering biz exec from LA herself) 'unequivocally' vouched for katherine louie @ Outrageous Gourmet. she said "she will customize whatever your needs are within budget & time constraints." And it was true. We can't agree more. Her facebook page has tons of pics of events she handled/coordinated/catered and she has sample menus etc. just to inspire ideas. Then she tells you what questions you should be asking etc. so she took the anxiety of not knowing what i don't know out of the equation altogether. Her prices are very copetitive also compared to other highly visible wedding planners in the area. katherine and her team are very courteous, professional, patient, communicative, and above all, dependable and trustworthy. on the day of the wedding, my DIY process encountered all these unexpected obstacles that we were already complete wrecks. she stepped right in - filled the vacuum - so i gave her 100% authorization to use her executive discretion to run the entire wedding however way she saw fit. l am glad I did. and I have foodie friends and family from Japan, my fiance has die-hard soulfood fans from Detroit... and guess what, EVERY SINGLE PERSON raved about how yummy (and beautifully presented as well) the food was. all the staff were extremely capable, professional, and courteous... and the day after the wedding, since we were too braindead to pay musicians and tips etc. that we had originally planned, she made a trip out to handle all that remaining business for us with consistently positive engagement. she has nice taste, too.... the house we reserved turnd out to be a complete dump, SO poorly appointed i cried... but on the day of, she filled the gap and just made sure overall it was beautiful and directed my DIY team and wedding party. if her team ever expands to the bay, i'll definitely work with her again. she respects relationships and integrity and i tend to want to do business with someone whose personal integrity i respect and in her case it was that PLUS serious experience and competency. she also has really talented people (chefs, coordinators, etc.) on her team. wedding is seirously stressful but all our families were SO happy with our wedding, and they're picky & snobby and yet they were satisfied - katherine also brought in the best reverend EVER who did such an amazing officiant job as well as the later fire dance performance. my one minor feedback would be i wish she were more directive about my photo shoot, (since photographer was her guy), taking veil off (which i totally forgot to do the entire evening), going around tables to say hello, getitng the "pupus" tray to reach every one (some never came around my way) - but they're kind of minor and not entirely her fault... 5 stars hands down because my 'husband' and i, as well as our entire family are ALL 100% happy and feel good about it all, and that's what matters. she executed flawlessly and so gracefully and we're so deeply appreciative of just so much that she and her team put in for us. totally worth the money. catering, wedding planning, and day-of coordination. i say if searching for caterer or wedding planner give her a ring. it's not a linear intake process she has - very talkative, but it's her way of assessing your pesronality and traits that all inform the detailed profile of each client. she knows what she is doing. read more
