Our experience with shark fishing was not great. We only caught two - one being very small. Both sharks were caught immediately after anchoring the boat. Our guide made no attempt to move our boat to another location even though it was clear there wasn't going to be anymore action where we were located. He did not check the bait often. I asked about taking photos with what we caught and he said that wasn't an option. I fully acknowledge that sharks are dangerous, but there are photos on the Outside website of people holding the sharks they catch. I've also seen photos through other charters of people holding the smaller sharks they caught. Our guide wasn't unfriendly, but didn't make it entertaining or remotely exciting. We was his last trip of the day and I think he was just ready to go home. It was way too expensive for the disappointing experience. read more

Ferry over and back, along with golf cart and food was an excellent deal. Everything was all set and the trip went smoothly. Food at Old Daufuskie Crab Co was great.....drinks were even better. Entertainment on the beach was a good vibe. Only thing that was a bit overrated was the actual island itself. Lots of junk cars, houses etc. Terrible maps with the carts and places that were blocked off as private property. Beach at Bloody Point would be our highlight. read more

My wife and I own a home on Hilton Head Island (splitting time between New York City). When we have visitors, which is often, we like to take them on planned activities. We've done the Outside Kayaking tour four times, and it has always been great. You now only get to go out into Broad Creek and enjoy the day, but it's also an educational experience about the sea live, dunes grass and the history of Hilton Head. You are also very likely to by kayaking beside dolphins. On this occasion, our guide was Gerard Love. By way of transparency, we've enjoyed all of the guides for this trip, but Gerard was particularly amazing. He is a man who isn't simply giving a tour. He is sharing what he loves about the ecology, the island and its history. Try it....you'll love it. PS. Outside is an amazing company that has a foundation that helps preserve a private island. They educate public school children on the ecology with free tours. Outside is a good organization made up of so many great people! PPS. We went on the 2 hour kayak tour. Michael was our tour guide and he was perfect for us- laid back and patient and very knowledgeable about the local ecosystem, birds, marshes. I'm a novice kayaker and was nervous about tipping over the boat and getting wet since it's October, but they have an easy system to get into the kayak- hop in on the dock and they just push you in. They have it all figured out so you can just relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Oh, and we saw dolphins right off the cove! read more

Today a group of us braved the cool, clouds and wind and hopped on a boat to Daufuskie island, under the command of the skilled and knowledgeable Captain Pete (assisted by the attentive First Mate Tim.) It was a fascinating and memorable afternoon. We learned so much, I wouldn't even know where to begin other than to say that Pete is passionate about the history and people of the area and is possibly the best ambassador the island could have! We learned about the history of the island: the roads, the architecture, agriculture, civil rights, the visit by author Pat Conroy, the preservation of some structures, the Gullah people, their pride and their traditions... it was An honor to visit the church. My favorite was reading from "de Nyew testament" in Gullah phonetics that Pete was thoughtful enough to bring! It was a moving experience that I won't forget. We stopped at 3 little shops - bought soaps and lotions made locally. In the schoolhouse they arduously make clothing dyed with rich indigo -- which was unique and stunning and wearable works of art. (The women clearly appreciated the sales.) I could go on but all this to say that the historic tour of Daufuskie island will be the highlight of your visit to HHI. Be sure to book with captain Pete and don't forget a tip - he's worth every penny! (He even texted those interested a long list of relevant reading!) Towel accessibility & amenities were pleasing. Restaurants were ok, but the surrounding community area off grounds is more than accommodating for foods & needs. Super friendly staff! We biked over from Coligny to spend 2 hours in the water - we opted to go out ourselves to explore. They had plenty of boats to choose from - single and double kayaks. The guys on the dock were good - gave us instructions and helped our party into the boats. The area around Shelter Cove to kayak was amazing. At the tail end of our trip my husband noticed some ripples in the water by a quiet dock area and we rowed up on 4-5 manatees! We were not expecting that so it was an awesome way to end our 2 hour paddle. We hung out with them for about 15 minutes - they were awesome and so playful! Highly recommend and will go out with them again when we're back on the island! read more

We took the Dolphin Eco Tour in September 2024. Our tour left right on time, and we had Captain Tim. Tim was very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. He stopped for us to see wildlife and to tell us about them, and he also showed us some sights from the water, such as the house that was 30% designed by Frank Lloyd Wright before he died. My partner has some mobility issues, but Tim was helpful in accommodating her needs. Bottled water was also provided on the tour. By the time the tour was supposed to be over, we hadn't yet seen any dolphins. Tim asked if it was okay to extend our tour a bit, then we were able to find dolphins in two locations. It was a great excursion, and Tim was an amazing host. read more

We enjoyed our group Moonlight Kayak Tour, led by Sebastian. He provided us with lots of information about the ecosystem while we kayaked in the area outside of shelter cove. We even saw two dolphins! I suggest doing this tour after you've already experienced a daytime tour, or have some experience kayaking (since it's dark). We wore leggings and jackets since the sun is down and got a bit wet from paddling. Overall, this tour was a cool experience and we appreciated our great guide, Sebastian! read more

We did the Outside Hilton Head Dinner Cruise. They charged $145 per adult and $93 per child for you to eat a burned mini crab cake, smoked sausage that was undercooked with corn, potatoes and a few shrimp and by a few I mean 2, they added a cook (calling it dessert) while advertising it as a chef curated 3 course meal. Gave you a tray to eat your food off of that did not include a plate... and the topper, your table was your lap. While the staff wa extremely nice, this is a rip off calling this a dinner cruise.... It's more like a dolphin cruise with a few items to eat but calling it a dinner cruise.... Extremely misleading.... Do the vegabound cruise for a white table cloth dinner with servers and a true dinner cruise. For the cost... I expected a true dinner cruise and I would never recommend this excursion. The captain was nice and the staff was very nice.... So this review is not to say anything bad about them but the owner and management who think it's fair to advertise this as a dinner cruise is almost conning. read more

The low country dinner cruise did not meet my family's expectations for the cost. It was instead a dolphin cruise with sightings of exactly 2 dolphins. The menu was not as advertised- 3 course and chef curated. There were no tables to eat off, the food was below par, we were offered a cookie for the dessert course. The only highlight was that the staff was friendly. I would not recommend this event for the cost. read more

Had a fantastic time with Captain Dean on the sunset dolphin cruise. He was both funny and extremely knowledgeable about the area and the local marine ecosystem, and while it's not within his control we were able to see plenty of wildlife on the trip. We booked the Shark Island private 4-hour boat tour with Captain Tim. He was very knowledgeable and professional. It was the experience of a lifetime! We found six shark teeth! I have taken two tours of Daufuskie Island with Outside Hilton Head, both with Captain Pete. While the island and artisans have changed slightly from the first to the second tour, both were absolutely incredible. If you're on the fence about deciding to do the Daufuskie Artisan and History tour, I cannot stress this enough - DO IT. It is well worth the cost. Not only is the boat ride to the island one that's very informative, we saw quite a bit of wildlife like a deer swimming and dolphins along the way in mid-December. Honestly, it's like you get a dolphin cruise (sightings not promised though - it is nature and it is unpredictable after all), an art buying and history tour where you get the opportunity to support local Daufuskie businesses, and an amazing history lesson of Low Country, the Gullah and Geechee, and the island's past. Overall, both tours were incredible, Capt. Pete deserves whatever raises and praises Outside Hilton Head can provide, and I cannot wait to head back to the island with OHH again! Thanks for two wonderful day trips! A few notes: You're on the water and it is always cooler, especially when the sun goes down. Pack layers. You'll be gone for 4 hours+. Pack snacks, water, etc. There are a few options on the island for bathrooms or a snack but not many. Take SPF/sunscreen or apply. You're outdoors for the majority of the trip. It was a beautiful day for a kayak adventure. It was so easy to kayak in this area since the water was very smooth. We toured up some waterways, saw lots of birds, and got to know so much about HHI from our tour guide. We had such a great time kayaking with JC. She knew so many details of the island. She was also very passionate about a non-profit that helps to bring kids out on kayaks, so they can better understand the fragile eco-system and learn to care for it. The two hour kayak tour is excellent. The tide was going out so we went north on Broad Creek coming out of the marina. Dylan, our guide, gave a quick, easy to understand talk about paddling. Equipment was clean and in good shape. We boarded our kayaks on the dock and then Dylan pushed us into the water after showing us how to adjust the footrest. His talk was interesting and informative-he fielded questions easily. He was loud enough to hear unless you chose to be away from the group a bit. He was easily able to coach the group to stay out of the active marina channel. We saw many interesting birds and oysters and Spartina grass. The tide is about 8 feet (a lot) and seemed to move down about 3 feet over the course of our 2 hour tour. On return, Dylan pulled our boats onto the dock. Getting in and out of a kayak IS the hardest part of kayaking. The outfitter was well set up to make it easy. read more
