Paid to have my air conditioner serviced and repaired. They miss diagnosed the issue and did not properly complete the repair. After paying for a full diagnosis the air conditioning lasted 6 months. Returned for warranty and they wanted an additional $1300.00 I ended up going to another shop and was told that there was no die in the system to track any leaks and the needle valve was not properly installed. Hi. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I have had prior good experience with my service on my truck and have always liked everyone there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It was the first time though I was a little frustrated with my recent trailer service.. I realize though it may be because they don't get a lot of trailers.. I brought my gooseneck for a service check primarily to get the wheel bearings done. It is an older trailer but well taken care of.. The initial inspection said I needed brake servicing and said my brakes weren't working and all 5 tires were a 2016 and needed replacing.. I explained all my electric including brakes and lights have been working good with having used and tested it the night before and the morning before drop off.. they did explain after that maybe it was just something that wasn't hitting right when they took stuff off or the truck they used to check it couldn't read it.. anyways all that stuff works just fine lol. As for the tires, one I had just bought less then a year ago and is almost brand new.. The other ones have good tread and no cracks but I know they will need to be replaced soon. I did ask if they could remove a screw/nail in one but they said due to it being over 5yrs old they could not.. they said they ran water over it though and it's not leaking. A couple days later it went flat from the screw. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I think the worst part for me on the service though is when I went for pick up. They close at 5 but I was told I could pick up if I was there before 530pm.. I got there at 515pm and all the employees were in the front office, they told me it was out back.. I'm used to hooking up myself and getting out of tight situations but I was surprised when not a single employee came out to ask if I needed any help or if everything looked ok/worked.. getting out I actually had to move a large item to make the turn out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Anyways sorry for the novel. Repairer motor seal, did not repair the problem vehicle that I needed. My vehicle ran for 235 miles afterwards then failed to continuing. I returned to report problem, OW stated they would look at it for another $225 diagnosis to see what the problem. This is after spending $2,500 for the first service. OUT WEST did not fix the reason I needed . Now I have a disabled truck and no financial way to fix. I need this truck and now I'm unable to continue. This is my financial end. read more

Do not take your car here. We've had nothing but problems with our car. Took it in for an oil change and they said it needed work. Fine! A week later something else needs work. Fixed it again! Stupid choice! A week later another issue! You can't find these issues at the same time? I believe they fix what's wrong the first time but mess with something else so you keep coming back. Had someone else look at my car and they said the bolts were loose where they supposedly fixed it!! They are overpriced and scammers! If I could give zero stars I would! read more

Patrick at the front desk made my visit with Out West Auto very easy, straightforward, and honest. I came in to get my oil changed and was immediately greeted with a big smile. I am always weary of taking my car to mechanics and felt that this experience was great, they even let me take a look at my car while the mechanic was doing my inspection. They prefer appointments rather than walk-ins. They charge $425. for brakes $425 for back brakes and $425 for front brakes. Their brake inspection fee is $50. But even if you do not need rotors they replace the rotors, even if you do not need them replaced. I asked for my other rotors back and the girl at the desk did not know if I could get my rotors back. They did not ask any questions about my driving habits or when my brakes squeaked which the other places did so I opted to go elsewhere especially since I knew my rotors did not need to be replaced but they refused to do the service keeping my original rotors since I did not need them replaced as this is the only way they do brakes. When rotors do not need to be replaced the price for brakes is less than $300. Be careful of this place! read more

An update to my Original Review: Since posting my original review, years ago, Outwest Auto continues to just knock our socks off with their exceptional service. . Two of our three vehicles are 20 years old or older, When an issue comes up, I call ahead, arrange a time to bring it in, it's hooked up to their diagnostic machine, I'm told the suspected issue, and given an estimate for the cost to repair it (if there are multiple potential causes and fixes, I'm TOLD THAT, in advance... I can't recall a single time when "the worst case scenario" was "the case." ) . My brother, who I unfortunately just lost, was an exceptional mechanic, but sadly lived in another state. Any time we had an outside-the-norm car issue, I'd call my brother, and describe what was happening. He'd ask questions (sometimes he'd LISTEN to the engine over the phone, or have me describe what was going on WHILE I was driving it -- lol -- then he'd tell me what he suspected.) . I'd walk into Outwest auto, describe what was going on, and would be told THE EXACT SAME THING (although they had no clue I had a brother who was a mechanic) EVERY SINGLE TIME. If anything new was discovered during the diagnostic process, after-the-fact, I'd share that info with my brother, give him the diagnostic codes, and tell him what they recommended. And, EVERY SINGLE TIME, he'd say, "That's a good mechanic" or "that's a good shop, that's exactly what I would have done." (Trust me, he didn't praise other mechanics, lightly. When I'd share what the Jeep Dealership we used to take our old jeep to, prior to finding Outwest Auto, recommended, did, and charged, he'd say things like, "Sounds like Jeep's Service Manager needed to make his month-end quota, and MAN did he see you coming..." EVERY SINGLE TIME we took our Jeep to the Jeep dealership. we'd get "the call," where we'd be told something MAJOR was found requiring some outrageously expensive part or repair to fix. Doesn't happen at Outwest.) . In the seven years we've been taking our high mileage, roughly driven vehicles to them, NEVER ONCE did my brother say a recommendation made by Outwest Auto was frivolous or unnecessary or they were "making their quota." . AND, when they say they GUARANTEE their work, they DO. . I can't possibly recommend this shop more highly. THEY ARE OUTSTANDING! In recent years, they've incorporated texts into their communication for updates, and their communication, which has consistently been great, is now exceptional, with text updates, every step of the way. . We are SO lucky to have a shop of this calibre in Valley Springs, and I couldn't be more grateful for the exceptional service over the years. read more

I'm sorry to see any bad reviews on this place. I just had a fantastic customer experience! I messed up the back tire of my lawn tractor. I'm new to the area, and asked the people we purchased our home from if they had a recommendation (they lived in this area for years, and so far they've been spot on about every recommendation, and every "you might want to keep away from these people" they've given.) Outwest Auto was highly recommended. I called Outwest, they told me just to come on in. They were friendly, they were courteous, they had a team of guys working on stuff, and they were very busy (if they weren't good, I wouldn't expect them to be busy... Right?) I got there later than I had planned to, 30 minutes before closing. Was I given any grief? No. My tire was repaired, the cost was reasonable, the gentleman behind the counter, who I'm pretty sure is an owner, carried the tire out to my vehicle, and there wasn't a single thing to complain about with any part of the transaction. And something I loved? They have the cutest little shop dog named Frankie who was friendly but not obnoxious. He was a kick! Such a good dog! I believe it's family owned (which I also appreciate), and there was a grand son or younger teenage young man, who was helping his grandfather, as he was being taught. From what it sounded like, they were putting together something for the grandmother. I loved it! No one bugged me with a bunch of idle chitchat, no one served me tea and scones, thank God. I have a Mercedes 280 slk that I took in for a repair. The code ABS/EP. They found the problem right away they had to order a new part for the car. It took two days to get the part. After install the new cable a new code showed up. It took them a little awhile to find out what the problem was but they found it, the wiring above the new cable was messed up. They fix that with no additional charge. So far I've taken my Ford 350, Expedition, and my Toyota FJ in for oil changes with no problems. Fast service and fair prices. And I'm not a family member. Will go back since I'm new to VS and was in search of a new Auto repair!!! read more

Brought my car here from 10 mins away hoping I wouldn't have to return to Modesto to have my car worked on. I came in and said I just had warranty work done and the claim should still be open. I was %100 wrong. That was my fault. Since it was a different part that would have to be replaced I needed to take it back to the same shop in Modesto. Instead of telling me it wouldn't be under the same claim they took the car in... I could have taken it back to the original shop and had it fixed for free. They made a new claim ($100) and said I would have had to pay another $200 for oil change and flush (not covered under warranty) even though it was done at the last shop 240 miles ago (2 days). I had to ask how much it would be to find this all out. Waste of time (told me what I told them was wrong) and $100. I really feel let down by this shop. read more

Took my car down here just trying to support a local business & to get a simple alignment, got a call bout 20 mins later saying it needed $800 worth of parts & work. Couldn't afford that at the time nor did I believe it needed any of those parts. I was right, the simple problem was the loose bolts on my rack & pinion they could've just tightened instead of trying to rip me off. But instead left them loose, gave me the car back and sent me on my way, real safe right? I took it home, found the bolts were loose tightened them & put a $25 tie rod end on, aligned it myself and it's perfectly fine. Thanks for your service Outwest auto! read more

We were told the wait would be approximately 15 minutes for a battery and air filter (the battery was in stock). The wait ended up being 55 minutes. This isn't why I'm writing this negative review, however. The young lady behind the counter has little to no customer service skills. When I let her know (about 45 minutes in) that we made the decision to wait based on the initial time frame, she got snippy with me. Instead of acknowledging our plight, or even apologizing for it, she said "Alright, alright!" as she went in to the shop, presumably to find out what was going on. When the parts arrived she stated, with derision, "See, the parts just showed up." We were waiting on an air filter. Needless to say we won't be returning to this shop. read more

Dollars and even told her again was she sure of the quote it has a 392 Hemi she said yes..... So the appointment was made took it in at the scheduled appointment time, signed the form to have the work completed gave them the key came back in a Apx 1 hour to Pick up the Vehicle was told that my car was going to be $124.88 not the price that we were QUOTED when appointment was made, he said that was the best PRICE they could do. That was the COST to do the oil change that the oil was $ 12.99 a quart !! trying to support the local place of business I guess I will do business out of Valley Springs VERY DISAPPOINTED in this Desk personal that representative at OUTWEST AUTO Have worked with Donny for many years. I had an unrepairable flat tire. My husband called the shop and Don answered the phone 5 mins to 5 and told my husband to bring my tire to their shop. They took their time to look at the tire and to order new tires (they all needed replacement) for the next day right then. The next morning, I went to get my new tires installed and they were there at the scheduled time and the new tires were promptly installed. This is a great business and great customer service not to mention the adorable French bulldog mascot, Frankie that makes the waiting room time go by fast. I tried to get a quote from them several (4 times) times, and each time I was told they needed to call me back to give me my quote. i never received a call back. After the first time of no call back, I called them again to see if anyone had finished my quote (catalytic converter install), and no one knew anything about it. So I called again a bit later when I as told to, as the person who might know wasn't in at the moment. Still nothing. i kept trying. It appears to me that they do not desire whatsoever to earn my business. All in all, I made 4 calls just needing a quote. I still have not received a cal back or a quote. read more

Let me explain something. I do not give bad reviews. In fact..... This is the first one. Donny and his team treated me so poorly that I am leaving a negative review on as many sites as I can find to do so. Let me explain. I took my truck to them for an alignment job. They worked on it the first time, and the alignment was still so off I couldn't safely move down the road. This caused me to have to spend my thanksgiving alone cause I had no vehicle to drive down south to be with my family. Taking it back to them I was treated rudely, blown off and then they sat on my truck for a week before even putting it on the rack to fix the problem. I tried to be polite and appreciative of these guys. Even gave them a 20 to grab some beer cause my truck was a little extra work. but when I finally got the call to come pick my truck up the second time, Donny flat refused to talk to me when I got there, and one of the other guys in the shop just handed me keys and told me to get it out of there. This was hands down the worst treatment I have ever received in any service environment. What is worse...... after two different times in their shop, the alignment is still not right. But after their treatment of me the last time..... I'll take it to Rick's in San Andrease. I would be afraid they would sabotage my truck if I took it back now.... Needless to say, my car deciding not to start was not what I had in mind when I was visiting my dad in Valley Springs, CA. My home is in Oregon and we were 2 days from needing to head home when my (fairly newish) car didn't start. My dad told me to call Outwest which I did. The only other option was my husband driving down from Oregon to try and repair my car. I called and spoke with Danny who said to bring it on in and he would take a look at it. After getting it started I drove it over to Danny and his team, handed him my keys and asked him to call me when he had a diagnosis. My car decided that it needed a new alternator and battery ($$) which they fixed in 1 day in time to get us on the road back home. I looked up comparable pricing online and they charged me what seems to be a fair price. I made it home safe and now feel comfortable if anything happens to my car when I go down to VS there is someone who can fix it. read more

I wanted to support a local business so I took my car in there the first time for an oil change. Everything was fine with that experience and they ended up selling me two new tires. They were very nice people and seemed to be customer service oriented. The second time I brought my car was because there was a rattling noise underneath my car and I suggested to them that it might be a loose pan, they took the car back into the shop, never test drove it and then came out and told me that I needed both my axles replaced And it would be close to $1000. I always get a second opinion so I took my car to Pep Boys in Lodi which is where I had normally taken all my cars. They took it for a test drive assessed the problem and discovered that it was in fact a loose pan underneath the car that had lost a couple of bolts. They zip tied it up charged me nothing and out the door I went.... haven't had a problem since. read more

I went in for a simple tire rotation and they tried to con me into two new tires and said my front tires were unsafe to rotate to the rear due to a little outside ware. The service here is pretty rough. I'm blown away after reading a previous review stating they're smoking in customer's cars. I'm not exactly sure what planet these employees are on that they can think in any way that is acceptable behavior. That is absolutely disgusting and disrespectful behavior. You have no right to choose to smoke when sitting inside a vehicle that is somebody else's property! Anyways, personal experience is these people treat you like an idiot. If you have any work done that requires your tires being removed please be sure to tell them not to over tighten the lug nuts. They have done this to me on two separate vehicles and two separate occasions almost a year apart. One of them actually had to have the studs replaced because the lug nuts were over-tightened and cross threaded so the studs broke upon removal of the lugs. When we brought this to the attention of the shop, they basically blamed it on us and made a whole situation out of it. In the end, we still had to pay them to fix something they pretty much damaged and destroyed in the first place. I can guarantee that I will never bring my vehicle to this shop again and I will definitely never recommend this place to anybody. read more
