First of all, a cute lil place with plenty of parking for the size of the restaurant, we sat on the patio with the heaters and even though it was still a lil chilly it was a total vibe. We were struggling to use the menu QR code and someone came out to help us before we even had to ask. Once we were situated we ordered some beers (a good selection obviously), the Buffalo chicken pinsa, a build your own (basically meat lovers) and a s'mores pinsa, everything came out quickly and was amazing, no pizza will ever compare to a Buffalo chicken PINSA, I love how thin and light the crust was, usually I regret gluten and dairy in the same sitting but this was way more digestible and totally worth it! It was very busy on a Friday night, but we didn't have to wait too long to get a table for four adults plus kids. We got a table in their heated enclosed patio area. You order with either the cashier or by going to their website via QR code. If you use the website, you can still pay by cash with the cashier afterwards, but you still have to put in your credit card number and process the order. We ordered the jumbo pretzel with beer cheese and Caprese margherita Pinsa. The pretzel was great, the dough tasted fresh and was soft. Beer cheese was warm and tasted great with the pretzel. The Pinsa was not doing it for me, tasted bland. However, I did like that it was crunchy. The Caprese margherita Pinsa had too much balsamic glaze for my taste. Been wanting to try Oval and Ale since I got here mid September. Coming back from Wilmington at almost 2 PM and haven't had lunch, I knew I had to stop in! As with most fun spots they'll let you get a taste of a beer before you try it. Did I mention I'm not much of a beer drinker. They knew that and gave me to to try. I was pleasantly surprised with the Pilsner they chose. In addition to the Pilsner, I ordered an oval! They have some really great choices and I chose the ""white". It was super crispy, creamy, super flavorful! They had some college football on the TVs and great conversation with other people at the bar. First time here has a visitor from CA where we have loads of pizza options and this did not disappoint! Loved the outdoor area as well which I highly recommend for families with toddlers/children or if you just want to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. It was our second time here and we came on a Friday nite! The weather was nice so we knew it would be packed, we lucked out and got a spot to sit. They had music playing so that was a plus. So you scan the QR code and place your order and they will text you when your food is ready! You can leave the tab open so you can continue to order drinks. Keep in mind if you order drinks with your food just make sure you go to the bar to grab them because you don't want your beers to get warm!! So we had Caprese salad, bruschetta, kids cheese pizza, caesar salad, the Greek pizza, the cheese and grilled Roma tomato sandwich and the Margarita pizza with ricotta! Everything was nice and fresh and tasty! No complaints from the kids and everyone was satisfied. The only thing I was not too impressed was they way they did the bruschetta but it was good. The Caprese salad was small and the slices of mozzarella were kinda small! We ordered dessert and that was good. It s a great place for kids because if you sit outside there are games and areas to run around. If you get a bit cold they have a fire pits and also spot where you can burn some wood to keep warm. This was our first time here and I was very pleased with the place. Great beer, very nice and helpful staff! They have order at table service which is kinda nice and lots of selections inside for beer! We went to the outdoor section because it was a beautiful warm fall day! Lots of things for kids to do and games to keep them happy while adults enjoy some time outdoors! There was a big chalkboard hanging up on fence and the outdoor bartender was so nice and wiped it clean a few times for the kids! Just a real nice laid back spot. This place was a complete accident coming by and I meant that in a good way because we were looking for a restaurant by Topsail Beach and I wasn't going to Wilmington so this place had the best menu choices and I was not disappointed. We dined in outside so they do everything more contact less by scanning a QR code and everything is all done on their Toast app... Food is made really quickly but you do have to get your food when it's ready thankful, they let you know. They have a guy that serves alcohol who was very friendly and helpful. Oh! Wow! I'm going to star with dessert because this place has a S'mores pizza that is decadent! Ask them to cook it a little longer than typical so the marshmallows get toasty brown. Their pizza is delicious and they offer a lot of variety. It's seriously one of the oven-fired pizzas I've had. Their salads are also good with the caprese salad being the one to get! ***had to do another current updated review*** This is our favorite place to not only take people when they come to visit but just to go for an evening dinner with our little family. They have artisans pizzas, that every time we try a new one, we have a new favorite. And they literally shipped in their oven from Rome so it is legit Roman Style "pizzas". Our personally favorite at the moment is the Prosciutto, however, one of their daily items was a pesto shrimp option and it was also very tasty. Not only is their food delicious though, but they have a great drink selection and tap choices. The final part, which is really the main reason we love it here, is the outside area. It is fenced in and has plenty for the little ones to do. Jenga, Connect 4, Chalk, Cornhole, etc. Our toddler has so much fun just playing before and after we eat our dinner and it truly is the best place for families to go and enjoy a meal out. Let me start by saying I love everything about this restaurant. The food is wonderful and tasty. Service is friendly and fast. There is basically three different areas you can choose to dine. Inside with TV's and a nice little bar area (great selection of local beers on tap), outside in the yard with all kinds of kid friendly things to do, or out front on the patio with nice fans or heaters depending on the weather and a very comfortable feel to it. The owners and staff are so inviting and attentive. Since our first visit soon after Oval & Ale opened we have become regular patrons, visiting almost every weekend. When you walk in they explain to you that you can either order at the register and they will bring the food to you, or you scan the QR code at the table, order and pay right on your phone. You can even leave the check open and just pay when your done. As far as the food is concerned, this time we only had a couple of appetizers. The hummus platter and the pesto pinsa. The crust is amazing. Light, flakey and chewy. The hummus had a very nice lemon and garlic flavor and was served with flat bread and fresh vegetable.
