Black owned. Husband and wife. Lovely couple. Very passionate about the role they play within the community. The gallery itself is expansive, well-lit, and features a considerable amount of paintings and sculptures from people of color from throughout the area and country. I was attending an event here so I really didn't have much time to browse, but what I saw was impressive. Some fabulous pieces to consider in decorating a space in the home, office or a business. Unique stuff. Parking is limited out front but there is a large Macy's parking lot 25 yards or so away from this location at the end of one of the streets within Bowie Town Center. read more

I bought 3 pieces from OR, and they framed them for me on later dates. Each time I made a purchase, I've had the same consistent great service. I thoroughly enjoy my pieces and the overall shopping experience to get them. I look forward to purchasing more in the future, and it's good to know that they will order what I want if they don't have it. I purchased a beautiful piece of art from OR through Artsy l, a third party website and I couldn't be happier with the quality of the painting. I was pleasantly surprised OR is a Black owned and operated art gallery. The place lovely. It's located in the least likely location. An outside mall. My only criticism the length of time it took for me to receive the letter of authenticity. The owner was very responsive and apologized on behalfOf the artist for the delay. read more

I can't give any stars at all this place is horrible just due to the people that work there. When walking in they didn't even greet me or my children but referred to the gentleman that came in 20 minutes after us as a customer and immediately helped him. When letting them know it was an issue my concerns were made a mockery and the owner was smirking and didn't care. It was discrimination from the beginning. Do not come here as they think they are elite but the place wasn't even clean. The only thing that was nice is that the artwork from the artist. I am forced to give one star but they deserve none! read more

I love the mixture of Black artists and beautiful art at various price points. The Gallery is unpretentious, and really focuses on growing an appreciation of Black artists. I was a silent customer walking around Overdue Recognition Art Gallary gazing at the beautiful and sometimes emotional African American Art, and while gazing I noticed a female who introduced herself to another customer as the owner. Hearing the word "owner" got my attention, so I secretly started listening to her conversation with the other customer. I overheard her explain the meaning of the art and the personal background of the artist. I was so impressed with her in depth knowledge about the art, that my art shopping became an art experience! This review is for the framing services only. The gallery is lovely but beware please do not take a piece of art on canvas to be framed. They caused considerable damage to an original canvas that I brought to be framed, including mounting a painting that was a perfect square on stretcher bars that were not square. Thereby staples were placed onto what was the face of the canvas. It cost me $800 to have the damage corrected, let alone the cost of subsequent framing. The gallery saw nothing wrong with the job they did and refused to correct their work. read more

I'm new to the area. I deliberately researched black-owned galleries for art framing services. I found the gallery and was impressed with the venue. Unfortunately I had a horrible experience. I ordered framing and was told verbally that due to the Pandemic the order would take 3 weeks to complete (on the receipt they wrote 3-4 weeks to complete). In the fifth week, I contacted the gallery to get a status update. I was informed that they weren't aware of the order status and I would receive a call back. I waited and upon not hearing from the gallery, I called back. I was told that they still didn't have info, but the piece should be ready to pick up during the coming weekend. I was assured that I would receive a call to let me know when it was ready. On Saturday, I was in the area and decided to check on the piece. I was told that the piece wasn't ready and would take another week. I wasn't offered any compensation or apology. I was only offered excuses. The service was very disappointing. All businesses must uphold a certain level of customer service, especially black-owned businesses. Poor customer service makes it difficult for consumers to trust and reduces the number of return visits. I don't think that I will visit or do business with the gallery in the future. We must do better. read more
