The art was incredible, and the staff was so friendly and welcoming. One of my favorite parts was the Andy Warhol room was so fun and such a cool experience! The grounds were truly breathtaking. We went with our clinical group and had the best time walking around and taking so many pictures inside and outside. Every corner felt picture-perfect. The gift shop had so many cute and unique items, and we couldn't leave without stopping by the Wildflower Café. Their lemonade was amazing! Such a wonderful experience. I would definitely go back again if I'm ever in Tulsa.

Gordon days). This exhibit shows his whole range from the 1980s to more current works (like Men in Ball Gowns). There's a dry sense of humor that runs throughout his works. Opening night was crowded so I definitely want to return. A portion of the gallery is remade to look like his studio and I believe he will be painting live there at times. Another world-class exhibition! (Sept - Jan 3, 2026)

Isn't that fascinating?!! I loved all the movies and documentaries throughout the museum. There were two cowpokes with ropes, twirling them throughout the museum and it added to the ambience. I enjoyed walking the sunken garden and exploring the many rooms. I think my favorite was the theater room. I wish I could have spent all day and watched all the available shows you can select to watch on the big screen. Very well done museum.

After paying our admission, we were directed to the beginning of the self guided tour. We met another friendly staff member who provided quite of lot of insight to Will Rogers' life and history. We went through several rooms, some had monitors playing old movies and historical stories. The theater room allows you to choose from several different shows from various perspectives on Will Rogers' life. One show was narrated by Bob Hope. Will and his family are interned on the premises outside and the location allows you to take in the overall beauty of the land. They have a nice resting place. We concluded our tour. You have the option of visiting the gift shop before you leave for any souvenirs you may desire to purchase.

Located right off historic Route 66 in Tulsa, this open-air exhibit offers a nostalgic look at Oklahoma's rich oil and rail history. The highlight is the massive, vintage Frisco 4500 steam locomotive--perfect for photos and a hit with both kids and adults. There's also a historic red caboose, an old oil derrick that towers over the site, and a replica 1920s gas station that really gives you that classic Route 66 vibe. It's a quick but memorable stop, especially for families, history buffs, or anyone doing a Route 66 road trip. There are informative signs and plaques scattered throughout, so you get a nice mix of visuals and historical context. Bonus: it's completely free and open to the public, with easy parking. It's not a full museum experience, so don't expect to spend hours here--but for a fun 15-30 minute stop with great photo ops and some genuine Oklahoma charm, the Route 66 Historical Village is definitely worth it.

For example, they have enough Thomas Moran paintings and drawings to fill its own gallery. Fortunately, the museum announced a multi-million dollar expansion plan last year and the new design is impressive. In the meantime, visitors must make do with some galleries that are incredibly dark and an antiquated personal photography policy that, while allowing camera use, still puts much off limits. (Hey, Gilcrease, if you want more visitors, liberalize your policies.) Luckily, the museum has a good online collection that, once you create a user account, permits you to easily download images for personal use. The depth of this robust collection includes surprises but it would all benefit from a curatorial refresh. Wandering the jumble of individual galleries and reading some labels that are missing relevant information can be frustrating. I look forward to the expansion of this museum that proudly says it 'houses the world's largest and most comprehensive collection of art and artifacts of the American West'. I don't doubt it. The visitor experience cannot but change dramatically.
