After getting through rehab from the injuries, I was able to get an appointment at Cardiovascular Experts. After a thorough exam including echocardiogram and heart catheterization we attributed the loss of consciousness that resulted in the bicycle crash to that valve having failed sufficiently and was now "bad enough" for corrective surgery. A TAVR was arranged for, and afterwards several weeks of cardiac rehab. Now, at nearly 80 years of age, I'm back to nearly "normal" activity, including riding the bicycle. I have generally then waited about 15-20 minutes to be seen by a practitioner, which is very reasonable. This week I visited the clinic on Monday and again on Friday for a follow up. Everyone was kind, patient, good listeners and clear with Instructions. I was seen by a nurse during my first appointment and by a doctor for my follow up. Both were excellent and had great bed-side manners. The only reason I can not give 5 stars is because there was one nurse who came into my room (while I was being attended to by a nurses aid) and she started rummaging through the supply closet and complaining about missing items. She then ordered my nurses aide to come over to help her. I felt her behavior was rude and distracting to my treatment. Overall I feel confident in coming to this clinic for urgent care and believe I am treated appropriately and efficiently.

I don't think we should ever have an urgent care that does not have their own lab. I think a controlled drug should only be prescribed when absolutely necessary (couldn't be necessary, if an OTC is the substitute) Update: I have the flu and the doctor told me to discontinue using the amoxicillin (I never opened it, but now it's $11 down the drain because CVS won't do a refund)

Three weeks later. What a blessing and I have no problems whatsoever with my knee. Two weeks ago, Dr. Beurk performed a rotator cuff reversal on my left arm. What a difference already. Dr. Beurk and his staff give excellent care, compassionate to needs and waste no time providing excellent services to give patients relief. I'm done with Geisinger Orthopedics. There were so many patients there all the time, I seriously felt like a number. I don't ever remember anyone calling me by my name except for the one who was calling me back to a room. I went to them complaining of severe knee pain. It was so bad that i could barely drive, i couldn't sleep, i couldn't sit too long, i couldn't stand too long. I was miserable. "Let's get x rays of your back" which totally confused me but, okay, you're the doc. I left there a little confused. The x-rays don't show much. So, one MRI of my spine later, I got a call to set up physical therapy. I said, "for what?" That poor girl didn't know. I told her that I in fact, had an MRI on my back but no one talked to me about the results. So now I have to schedule an appt. It was with a physician assistant which I have no issue with because I always have good experiences with them, except this one acted frustrated that he had to explain anything to me. The MRI showed I have arthritis in my back, bulging discs, etc. That appt lasted exactly 6 mins. I left with more questions than answers AND a bad knee. I went to physical therapy which was a complete waste of time. There are so many people down there getting PT, that I would have to wait until my therapist was done with 6 other people before I knew what to do next. I went 3 times and gave up. I should note that every time I went there, they would say, "oh you're here for back pain" I would say, I don't have any back pain. My knee is the problem, and it still is. They continued to tell me that it was because of my back. At my follow up appt, They gave me a cortisone shot, prescribed me meds and sent me on my way. Now I have to schedule another follow up, for what exactly, I have no idea. I get the PA again. This time, I sat and waited for him for 24 minutes, For the first 14 of those minutes, outside my room, I heard him talking to the nurses and joking around about what they were getting for lunch. (They decided to order pizza in case you were wondering) He came into the room and asked how my back was feeling. I said, "it's fine, it's been fine. My knee is still killing me though." He told me "Well, surgery is just going to make everything worse" (surgery? on what? I didn't even know what was wrong) I just stared at him. At this point, I knew this was the last time I was coming here. He sent me off with "Do you know any good chiropractors? If you don't, I know a few" I said, "no thank you" and I left. Ill wrap this up by saying, I went through my insurance to find another ortho doc. At my first appt, I was amazed that there were only 2 of us in the waiting room, and the doctor I saw could not have been nicer. He HEARD me. He said, "I don't think this is coming from your back" after we discussed the problem and he examined me. "Lets get an MRI of your knee" well finally. Turns out, I have severe arthritis under my knee cap, two foreign objects "floating" around, and my meniscus is frayed and torn. These doctors are paid an astronomical amount of money. They aren't all bad, but at the very least, please just take some time to listen. Call me by my first name. Pretend I'm not inconveniencing you. That office is nothing more than an assembly line. So, Mr Physician's assistant, I didn't find a good chiropractor, I decided to find a good doctor.

I would have thought a follow up appointment and my first full screening would have been scheduled asap after the surgery but they didn't seem to think it was necessary. Months later and with no further reminders or outreach, I had an appointment with a nurse practitioner who was okay, but after another appointment the following year with zero reminders I decided to look around for another practice. I'd also say their patient portal isn't the greatest. Coworkers were going to Dermatology Associates of York and liked it, so I was able to schedule an appointment at their Mechanicsburg office with an actual MD dermatologist and have been going there for the past couple years. That's where you want to go if you need serious dermatology care, they're great, great patient outreach and response, great patient portal. I realized I hadn't had a complete skin cancer screening before I went there. Oh, and I one point I actually tried to schedule an appointment with the family practice that's connected to the Penn State specialties office, but similar issues, they didn't have any actual doctors who could see me for months, just physician assistants or NPs- I'm sorry if this sounds "elitist" but I'm over 50 years old and now with a history of cancer so I wanna see a real doctor, not an almost doctor who has to have their work checked and approved by real doctors. I was referred to the main Penn State mohs office after testing positive for basal cell carcinoma on my face, after a couple more weeks of waiting for a response I received a call from this Camp Hill office telling me that my surgery was scheduled for almost 6 months later and was given no other options for an earlier time other than calling every day and asking about cancellations- there was no cancellation list I was told of, the reception person just said that a lot of it was probably removed during the biopsy. What?! After my wife took over and checked with her own primary care doc along with the the main office of Penn St mohs and our insurer, she was able to get me scheduled with Dr. Cartee at Penn State Hershey. He was great and would recommend him, but only after an extremely stressful situation for someone who had cancer for the first time. I now see a dermatologist MD at Dermatology Associates of York, they have an office in Mechanicsburg and they're great. Highly recommend them.
