A bathroom. Very simple and understated, yet has all the necessary parts so that you can take care of what you came in to the room to do.

Had lunch and two tastings and a glass today (a Monday around opening time). Very friendly, knowledgeable staff who had recently moved here from Oregon. Ox-Eye has 25 acres of vines and grows "cold weather" grapes that are closer in spirit to NY State or the West Coast, compared to the "hot weather" climate in Charlottesville. Beautiful venue with lots of seating, and upstairs they have an art gallery with some really tasteful and affordable artwork. Great view out the windows in the quaint, small town of Staunton. We loved the wines, bought two bottles to go. The BEST part of the experience was just how affordable the wines are! Ox-Eye is like half the price of more expensive (and not much better) Charlottesville wines. Definitely will be back again soon. Probably the best winery West of Charlottesville.

Every time I come through Staunton, I make it a point to stop through here - whether it's with friends lounging in the chairs, enjoying a glass upstairs in the lovely lounge, or splitting a bottle sitting outside in the lovely red chairs. The wine here really is amazing! The tasting room (no vineyard) is in a lovely renovated historic building, that always has lots of revolving local artists. Today, my twin sister and I did the tasting and we really enjoyed the wines. Andrea was great and really worked us through the wine lists. Some of our favorites were: Gruner veltliner 2018 (I fell in love with this when I lived in Austria, seems to be a bit rare on the east coast), Traminette 2016, and the full bodied Lemberger 2015. Overall, a lovely tasting experience and a nice break in the middle of a fun Staunton weekend.

My wife and I stopped off at this tasting room on a Saturday afternoon on our way home from Charlottesville. It is located in the downtown area of Staunton. There is some street parking and there appeared to be a paid parking area across the street from the tasting room The main floor with the bar area is small but nicely decorated. We did a tasting of wine that did a combination of red and white. Several were very good and we ended up getting a glass of one of the whites. The lady at the bar said that the vineyard is actually a few miles outside of Staunton. There is also an upstairs area but it just has a few tables and chairs. Not a bad place to hang out for a bit. There was no outdoor seating at the time we were there. We have been to several wine locations and done tastings and, IMO, the amount you get for a tasting here was quite small compared to other locations. Overall though, we would go back next time we are in the area.

This is a hidden gem! The tasting was perfect, the service was amazing and the wines are worth the stop!

Heavy pours in the tasting room-- always a plus! This quaint, homey tasting rooms offers a wide range of great wines in a super comfortable setting. Unlike many other vineyards in the area, Ox-Eye is just a tasting room in downtown Staunton, not an actual vineyard. There is an outside patio but it was too hot to sit outside during my visit. Despite these things the wine was so good that none of these things mattered much.

This is a tasting room, not a winery (although the vineyard isn't that far away). But the owners loved the space in town, so this was an excellent pick for them. Their nearby vineyard does have 28 acres of vines, and their wines are almost entirely estate. The prices were also very reasonable. The Shenandoah is a great place for grapes, so Ox Eye had several varietals I rarely see elsewhere (Pinot Noir! Lemberger! Rielsing!!!). The room is also wonderful; it had a rich history of its own, and it makes me wish I could just live upstairs. They also sell art from local artists. My wonderful server joked if she had thought about it, she would have purchased it years ago as a personal property, and I totally agree! What I tried: 2015 Chardonnay: Little buttery but overly so. 2014 Riesling: Crisp, nice complexity. 2014 Traminette: Bold, leche notes. 2014 Semi-Sweet Riesling: Not bad, but liked the dry better. White Ox white blend (Riesling and Chardonnay): I think I liked it, but my notes fail me. 2014 Pinot Noir: A rare grape for Virginia! Light, smokey, almost Rose color. Slight cherry notes; bought a bottle. 2014 Lemberger: German red varietal I rarely see. Bigger body and more cherry forward than the Pinot. 2014 Cab Franc: Green pepper notes, but not especially full bodied or spicy.

Very cute 2-story tasting room with friendly staff and convenient location. The wine is good too! It's also always nice to support a locally-owned family operation.

This was our first visit to Ox-Eye. I am not a fan of red wine, however I LOVED ALL the reds on their tasting. There are three different tastings. Two are $7 with 4 whites and the same same three reds. The third tasting is $10 and includes all 8 whites, the 3 reds, and the port style. We were also also able to taste the mulled wine. We left with a bottle of red and a bottle of white.

My wife and our neighbors enjoyed a wonderful Sunday afternoon sitting on the patio enjoying a bottle of White Ox. We haven't been out much during the pandemic but the table spacing was safe, everyone wore a mask when moving about and the outdoor setting was delightful. A little noisy at times on the patio due to the traffic but a wonderful location to relax and visit on a beautiful autumn afternoon.

Really nice wines and very pleasant tasting room experience. The cozy tasting room is in the town's old coal-weighing house -- a historic slice of Staunton. We lucked out with the vintner's wife pouring our tasting. She was knowledgeable and totally unpretentious. All the wines are quite good, with the fruity German red varietal Lemberger (aka Blaufränkisch) being our favorite. Both the 2013 (bright, high-acid cherry) and the 2014 (velvety berry) vintages are on offer now. They also just released their first sparkling vintage in collaboration with Claude Thibaut. Bottles and wines by the glass are reasonably priced. Grab one of each, sink into one of the leather armchairs, and relax to the light jazz tinkling over the speakers. Worth a stop!

Five stars all the way. Great wine, great owner (we met Susan, the wife of the husband and wife team), and a great location in the wharf section of downtown Staunton. Their vineyards are about 8 miles from town, off winding country roads, and the owners decided to open the tasting room in town, which is great for those who visit the Saturday morning farmer's market (Ox-Eye opens at 10 AM for those folks...wine at 10 AM. YES). I had a hard time choosing a bottle to go...every wine is a winner. Yes, the Lemberger is peppery. But it's a highly unusual varietal for this part of the east coast. And at $17 a bottle, a steal. The Riesling is incredibly refreshing, the Gewürtztraminer is perfect for Thai and Indian food, and the Pinot Noir--well, don't expect Oregon or California. This Pinot is mineraly and different. The patio behind the tasting room is something out of Europe. The sloping hills behind us, the clocktower pealing every hour - shut your eyes and you're in Germany. A great discovery in Staunton.

While Ox Eye isn't located in the most picturesque location as far as wineries go, I loved the wines! I had a glass of the Chardonnay, my boyfriend had the cab franc, and I ended up buying a bottle of the cab franc-- so good! Thank you :)
