My husband and I hired Oye Productions for our wedding last Sunday and are extremely happy with the music and service they provided! We found out about Oye from a friend of ours who takes Salsa lessons in Berkeley from Rebecca, a member of their team. We hired a band with 4 people- a male and female singer, and Rebecca to teach a 15 minute salsa lesson to our guests. We also had a guitarist play the music for the ceremony processional and recessional. The songs he chose to play for the wedding were beautiful- and it was so nice to have live musicians there for the whole time. Rebecca did a great job exciting the crowd and teaching them a little salsa, despite the fact that our dance floor was on a little bit of a slope. There were some huge schedule snags that greatly affected the bands ability to eat on time and they also ended up being outside when they had not expected it. Despite those major miscommunications on our end, they played an incredible event for us that all guests enjoyed. They also learned a beautiful version of our first dance song- The Way I Am, by Ingrid Michaelson. I also want to mention that they invited Walter and I to attend salsa lessons with Rebecca so that we could prepare for our wedding! We worked with Patricio and Oye Productions for the music for our wedding last weekend and couldn't have been happier! Patricio was wonderful to work with, all the way from our initial e-mail, to us figuring out what it was we actually wanted, to tweaking things up to the last minute. We wanted a live salsa band and a DJ, so through Patricio's suggestions, we hired Mazacote and Walter Vela. Mazacote played background music during cocktails, then the full band played after dinner for an hour, and DJ Walter played background music during dinner and a dancing set for the final hour of the event. The dance floor was full the whole night with seasoned salsa dancers and newbies alike, and the transition from band to DJ was flawless. I used Oye Productions back in Feb. 2007 for our wedding. My husband is from Michigan with very traditional mid-western sensibilities and I am a Chicana from SoCal with the typical, loud (and extensive) Mexican familia. I wanted a Mariachi for my wedding but they were far too expensive anywhere we looked. My husband and his family sort of cringed when I talked about it. We contacted Patricio at Oye and he understood the situation completely. He booked us a fabulous 3-person band to appeal to the traditional Latin feel we wanted without annoying the American side of our new blended family. They were a HIT! We started the cocktail hour with them and then switched to a DJ for dinner. My only regret was not booking them for the WHOLE time. They were that good. I found myself tuning into their sound throughout the cocktail hour....awesome ambiance, yet not intrusive. The perfect sound!! Not only that but they saved the day when one of their band members had our wedding song on their iPod (The Best Is Yet To Come- Sinatra) becuase our lame-@ss DJ didnt have it!!!). Needless to say, if ever I have the need for a band, I'll be calling Oye first. Forget the DJ. read more
