Many places in the hallway and room had bad areas on the walls, paint peeling and bubbled up, that looked like water damage. The window in the room had two locks on it, one was broken so the noise from highway 35 was louder since it wouldn't seal completely. Carpets had stains in places. Chair in the room was worn. Bathroom had a water leak. Easy to tell because the bathroom vanity was swollen and missing the finish in places from what appears to be water damage. The tile in the bathroom must of come loose and repaired badly. The bottom of the bathroom door looks like it has suffered from water damage. No body wash in the dispenser in the shower. Voicemail still on the phone from 3 months ago. The WiFi didn't work. The furniture and fixtures will get worse if there is no reinvestment to replace and repair. The housekeepers could start to lose interest in doing a good job if everything is falling apart around them. Would choose a different place next time.

First impression this time did not go well. The complimentary coffee in the lobby was cold when we arrived at check in. The room was as expected with the following exceptions. First, I had to fix the toilet handle. The locking nut in the bowl was not attached to the bowl. It's a simple fix but it left me wondering if the toilet had been cleaned. In order to clean the toilet, one must flush the toilet. Secondly, the seam on the couch arm was busted. The hotel is nice, but when small things start getting overlooked, they eventually become big things. We will stay there again as we are frequent visitors to Winstar. This hotel is close and a nice change from the expensive rates at the resort.

When we checked into the Veranda Inn, everything appeared clean. We all went to sleep until 5:30 am when my children called me to tell me that there were bugs all over their beds. This was in Room 126. I went and picked up one of the bugs to take to reception. They agreed that it was a bed bug and said Monday morning the regular desk person would give me a refund. She swore that in the year she'd been there they had never had an issue like that before. Based on the fact that the mattresses were in zippered bags and there were tiny bed bugs and big bed bugs I doubted that was true but I let it go. I went and gathered our things to inspect them and placed our luggage in trash bags. We left at 7:30 am unshowered and exhausted. I didn't cause a scene and left thinking they were going to handle things. Instead on Monday I had to call them at 2 to ask what was going on and the receptionist said that they weren't going to give me a refund since they weren't going to charge me a $500 fee for smoking in the room. A blatant lie and the cameras can show him going outside to smoke. He refuses to throw his cigarette butts on the ground and instead brought them inside to the trash can. There's no fan noise in bathroom so you will hear everything that's happening in there, which might be uncomfortable. We had a mostly positive experience, however, a few negatives. If you have chemical sensitivities, steer clear of this spot. Air quality in the room was fine, but the common areas were INTENSE. We were in the midst of a 2 day trip with refrigerated items, we made sure when reserving that there was a fridge in the room. The mini fridge in our room was not even slightly cold. I asked the staff member at the desk about this and he said it may be frozen up, unplug it for a few hours and then turn it back on. I said, but i have things that need to be cold. He did not have a solution for that, which I think was not the best customer service. My solution was to fill bags with ice from machine to put on food. They do allow pets which was a bonus for us.

This self service hotel which has been remade from offices and a Lions Club has five rooms - each decorated differently and perfectly. You enter the front door with a passcode and proceed up a wooden staircase to Grandmas room or The Bunkhouse (a rustic favorite) or the Country Room. There are no TVs here but wifi speed is good and strong. The property is under new management when I visited recently on my second stay- and they are helpful, eager to please and friendly in every way. The housekeeper even emailed me to see if there was anything I needed special in my room. They have a large saloon room outfitted with a full kitchen, pool table, leather sofas and a bar. There is plenty of good quality coffee and tea for your morning routine here. But if you wish to reheat some leftovers or your cup of morning joe-bring a coffee mug or a plate as there are only styrofoam cups or metal mugs here that won't go in the microwave. That being said everything else here is pretty much spot on just right! Beds are comfortable, rooms are spotless, spacious, fun and well thought out. I have stayed here twice- once in Grandmas room (which had a washer dryer ) and once in the Country Room. The rooms have ample closet space (more than I have at home). Some rooms have multiple beds and sitting rooms or foyers - all decorated in period Victorian or rustic style depending on which room you are in. Definitely make this a pit stop when in the northern hill country of Texas. Tip: the only breakfast place in St Jo is the Dairy Queen- so bring some breakfast items for yourself when you check in.

Beautiful wood floors, big screen tv, pool table and kitchen with a huge bar. This is a perfect hotel to rent for family reunions, bachelor/bachelorette parties, hunters and fishermen! We were there during the week and had this hotel to ourselves.. what a pleasant stay! St Jo is a small Texas town almost 1.5 hours from Dallas and located in the country with beautiful Texas you "expect" to see. There are lakes for fishing, private hunting lands for hunters, wineries and quaint mom and pop restaurants and shops within St Jo and neighboring towns. What I also learned is that it is located in a heavily travelled bike route! It's a great place to stay the night. Texas Kings Hotel is located on the town square. There is a tattoo shop that just opened up next door to the hotel and the wife is adding a grab and go deli, which is going to be great for the hotel guests. I suggest getting out of the city to experience small town charm. We loved it and can't wait to see what the locals do in this small Texas town. Cant wait to stay again!

I travel for work and I've been to some bad places but this is up there in the department of offensive experiences in terms of modern conveniences. I don't want to sound dramatic but when I go to long term stay accommodation places there are certain expectation I uphold and one of them is a working functioning washer and dryer. When I found out the dryer was out of order I asked if there was another on premises. I was told no, I kind of debriefed her and asked if this was an extended stay hotel! She replied yes. Then I said why is it that you only have ONE washer and dryer on site for over 200 rooms? She did not know which means I have to NOW go OFFSITE and find a Laundromat and do it there. I was not happy. She apologized ( I wasn't rude but standoffish to the point I was driving home) To continue my drama... the rest of the evening goes like this. I Yelped the location of the laundromat, find out there is only one in the 10 mile area... I hurriedly zoom to the place & secured two washing machines then something tells me I need to check the change machine before I unpack. GASP... No change... I collect my stuff and head back to the car towards Walmart which should be able to accommodate. I get there, go in, head to the service desk. They do NOT give change... UGH! But the manager was nice enough to share with me that there was a car wash port next door and I could probably scrounge up some change there. Bingo! Brilliant! I thanked her and off I went. Got the change headed back to the Laundromat, unloaded my clothes put the change in only to find out that I forgot to pack my laundry pods. I just stood there, dumbfounded... I couldn't do anything but laugh... What is god trying to tell me??? I asked the fella next to me who's using the same detergent I do if I could get two swirls of detergent. He was happy to do so... Finally, two hours of this I head back to the hotel room. Put on the game and nodded off to sleep. Some days are just what they are silly and insane. Chalk it up to travelers miscues. And then move on! Lol
