Smith's is my gold standard when it comes to hardware stores. It's been here forever and for good reason. The staff really makes the difference, as they are extremely knowledgeable and will go out of their way to help, including giving recommendations on how to handle a project if asked. They're the best thing about this place. The space itself is pretty large, and they do a great job of packing in everything from paint, to power tools, and seemingly everything in between. Not much in the way of housewares unlike some hardware stores but that's a non-factor to me. Technically affiliated with Ace Hardware which helps for their rewards program. Parking is also not bad in the Saugerties area which is helpful too (since they are on Main St). I come here whenever I need a serious hardware store for a project, and they've never let me down. read more

This was an excellent hardware store experience. I knew from the moment I walked in this was a traditional family business, with each member taking part. Every employee was extremely helpful and friendly. The prices were also amazing and competitive compared to big chains. This is my second time reviewing PC Smith & Son. The p perfect hardware store- They stock everything and if they don't have it they can probably get it. They also always help when you come in with some broken item - they make suggestions and they always know what to do or what you need. They repair screens , sharpen tools , mix paint , sell everything and do just about everything. Always go there before you go to a big box store. They aren't any more expensive than you driving to Kingston to go to Home Depot or Lowe's. It's a great store.They probably have what you need! read more

Just visited July 9, 2021. Immediately floored by the service. I had 3 things on my list. As I walked in the front door, the guy at the counter asked "Can I help you find something?" I had all three items within two minutes, and with his knowledge of the inventory to guide my choices. I took another five minutes to walk the store since I hadn't been there in two years, and marveled once again at its splendor. I am 40 yrs in biz. I LOVE a great hardware store. Smith is the real deal. Can't wait to go back. ..p.s. - what brought me up there, 20 miles north, and past a bunch of hardware stores and big boxes, was that Smith was the only place in the area that I could find Webpatch 90 - the only place. read more

This is a great little hardware store. I am very picky about my hardware stores. At Home Depot, I get people asking me and bothering me about what I'm looking for and then don't know where to find the stuff I am looking for. I can use my hands trying to explain a thingamajig that I need, and they never misdirect me. The people are really nice and helpful. Parking is great. I just wish they had room for a few plants to buy. read more

Had some keys made at Lowe's and they screwed it up. Neither key worked. I then tried Smith Hardware and the guy made perfect keys. While there I looked around and found some things "I couldn't live without." It's a great store. read more

refill your propane tank ...no problem music wire to build a ham radio antenna..no problem.. every other place had no idea what we were even looking for. sharpening your chainsaw and getting maintenance tips...no problem any problem, any item Smith Hardware is the best hardware store I been to. the staff is friendly, fast and knowledgeable . read more

A gem in the heart of Saugerties' Main Street! Their staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They are far above the big box stores in terms of customer service and quality products. I have had only good experiences in the 10 + years as a customer. I just bought a new trimmer from them and they could not have been more thorough or patient. Highly recommend! read more

I love this store so much that I had to take the time to write this review First off their prices are very good and I must say they always have what you are looking for even obscure parts Every single person who I have ever dealt with there is friendly, knowledgeable, and goes above and beyond If you order an item, it comes lightning quick and you are called the day it comes in In addition to hardware there are many other items sold Have you been in a Home Depot or Lowes lately? No one knows anything about the department they work in of you can even find someone ! Family run, Main St, hardware store. For hardware, they have EVERYTHING you need and they have what you can't find at the big box stores. Drill bits in numerical or metric sizes? "Sure. What number (or mm), how many?" Lamp finials? Boxes of them. Porcelain power drop attachment on your house? Two sizes. Their employees know how to actually do things and will give you hands-on, experienced advice. And they offer the same or better prices than the big box stores. They will get you in and out faster than anybody or you can join the local conversation at the counter as you sip your coffee from Bluestone down the street. Delivery? "Sure, when?" Cut and thread a length of 3/4", black iron, gas pipe to 29 7/8" "Sure. Drink your coffee or go have lunch and I'll cut it for you." Match 4 gallons of wall paint to my dogs fur color? "No problem. Here doggie." And, if you live here, these folks are your neighbors. They sponsor and coach the Little League. They collect money for a neighbor who suffered a fire or an illness. During summer break, the local kids are waiting on the counter. They are hard working, courteous, friendly, knowledgeable, very decent people. read more

Best hardware store in the Mid-Hudson Valley. Reasonable prices and the staff is terrific; they are not only very nice and knowledgeable, but will go out of their way to help their customers, whether it's explaining the best product for the job or going above & beyond to locate an item, no matter how obscure. They once refused to charge me for an oddly shaped item until I could return and assure them that it worked properly. I can't imagine too many other businesses that treat their customers so well. read more

Like the hardware stores I grew up going to. Friendly, helpful staff and pretty much everything you could possibly need from getting a key cut to power tools, bird seed and even cast iron cookware for the grill. I haven't made a trip to Lowes or Home Depot since setting foot in here. read more
