I was given along with every person who checked into the Ramada hotel for the weekend a brochure for 2 large cheese pizza $20 or 2 large pizzas for $25 Friday and Saturday 4pm-8pm I paid for the pizza $21.20 and the "head chef" Mr holes in my dirty shirt and shorts "per our executive chef we aren't offering that" I showed him the brochure from the hotel and he just said "I can't offer you that I'll be fired! You can order at full price!" Chelsea who was the waitress was awesome for the record and you could tell she was shaken up because they no doubt were being jerks to her. These were honestly some of the best Fish n' Chips I've had in a long time...I've lived in town here for a while and just never came to check this place out. Just speaking honestly, the outside of the place just always seemed tacky to me so I didn't give it a shot based on that. Shame on me, I guess. one of the WORST establishments i've been to. not only did i find a hair in my food (repulsive) but none of our food was cooked to an appropriate standard. chicken fingers were burnt and basically inedible. fries were salty beyond belief. i got a drink from the bar and i couldn't even take a sip of it due to it being so strong. not only was the food disgusting, i saw the head chef come out to explain what happened and i've never in my life seen someone so gross run a kitchen. he came out with a sleeveless shirt, was very sweaty, and last but not least he smelt strongly like marijuana which ruined all of our appetites. long story short, never eat at this establishment unless you want food poisoning or permanent trauma. read more

PJ Harrigan's has two main areas. The bar area is the area that you enter when you come through the main doors from the corner of the Ramada. The bar area has seating for dining surrounding the bar and a room for more dining just off the bar. The main dining room is located if you walk through the bar area and continue on down the side hall. The dining area is a nice area for families or large parties to sit. Both the dining room and the bar have the same menu available. There is a lot of memorabilia from sports to celebrities throughout the restaurant and I think my favorite is the one of John F Kennedy in the bar area. The bar's clientelle can vary night to night from locals, construction workers, and guests staying at the hotel. During the weekdays the bar can get very busy during happy hour if there are any conferences occurring at the hotel. During happy hour the appetizers on the menu are $5 which is a very good price and the drink prices will be 20-50% off depending upon what is spun on there wheel (except Tuesday and Thursday the drinks are 50% off). The bartenders are very friendly and make wonderful drinks. I enjoy the many different sandwiches that are on the menu from turkey club, reuben, french dip panini, and burgers. They have also added super oversized sandwiches and I always end up taking half home for my lunch the next day. They no longer have the salad bar available for dinner though. Well let me tell you what....first we came here for happy hour at 5:30, it was till 6:12 till our first round came out. The server had to ask us at least 2 times how to split our tabs. Even though some of us weren't ready to check out it was put in one tab. We then ordered more rounds for the people that wanted another drink. Didn't come out till 6:55. First time in State College, so a Penn State staff member brought me here for a "good burger." That being said, you can guess what I ordered. ;) I ordered the P. J. Harrigan's Burger, and coming from L.A., I was very happy that it came with TWO extra toppings and a choice from a variety of cheese! It really became a "make-your-own-burger" with that option. I had my burger with mushrooms, sautéed onions, and swiss cheese. My burger came with a side of fries, and as a fry feind seeking my favorite food in the middle of the night, I was more than pleased. Went to this pub when I checked into our hotel. Went for happy hour came back for dinner 2 hours later after a terrible experience at Happy Valley Brewing Company. Not only was the service incredible but the food was unexpectedly very good. Prince the bar tender was so friendly and kind to us. When we went back for dinner Chris was extremely attentive and kind as he knew we had a bad experience and had not had anything to eat for hours. Our meals were very good. Served with a smile and even sent us over a complimentary appetizer. We would return to this pub anytime when we are visiting state college. Kudos to this great staff!! read more

Waited 30 mins for a drink and it wasn't that the waitress forgot about it, she took the order and apologized like 5 times that it was taking so long. This is the 13th year we've stayed at the hotel and ate at the restaurant. This was the worst service and worst food in the 13 years. A group of 7 of us arrived at 5:45 on a Thursday for dinner. We waited forever for our drinks, our food, and then the corrections to our order. We never got refills on our water and one of us never got the right salad dressing. We finally left a bit after 8. It was a 2.3 hour dinner that should have taken 45 min. I ordered nachos and I never found the cheese. The free breakfast buffet was pretty sad as well. Best happy hour in town period. 4 thru 7 Monday thru Friday half priced appetizers, Tuesday and Thursday 50% off drinks, the other days spin the wheel for discounts. Tuesday 6 dollar any pizza, any pizza. Good is very good but not great. Help is always good. I am a regular bar patron after work and often bring friends. I want to like this place so bad. It's close by and there are actually a few good items on the menu. The problem is everything else is not. Had the nachos today. Stale chips, hardly any meat. Didn't even have a chance to tell the server I wasn't happy with them because she never came by to ask. Also ordered a pepperoni pizza to go. A bit better, but not much. Very bland. If this place would work on it's food game, it would be a great spot for lunch and Bar eats. So far, the only thing I've enjoyed here is the club sandwich and Reuben. Both are solid sandwiches. Bad experience...used to come here every week for years until the management, wait staff and cooks all changed at the same time. We decided to try again tonight. The wait staff was slow, we had a large table all came at different times on separate bills. We all got our bills with an 18% gratuity divided and added to all of our bills. A single person ended up with more than 40% on his bill in gratuity, when we questioned this we were told house policy to add 18% to the total and divide it to each bill...what kind of logic is this? I can certainly understand 18% on each individual bill but to charge 18% of the entire table then divide the total on each bill whether it was on a check of one or a check of 4 makes no sense. Stopped into this restaurant for dinner and there was a party of 30 who was here at 5pm and two hours later still never received their food. While my group of 11 came in at 6pm and my whole party received our food. Whether your open 24 hours or at 5pm, you should be prepared to serve any amount of people who enter your establishment. I was very hesitant to try this restaurant after the reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. For a Saturday night after a PSU game, it was just what we wanted. We were met by a hostess who promptly sat us and not long after the manager was there to take our order and offer recommendations. Drinks and appetizers came out quickly and our meal soon after. I was very hesitant to walk in to PJ Harrigan's but was pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere. The service was quiet subpar ordering hot water with lemon and then presented with ice water, the dining experience is not always about the big things like the food but the slight attention to detail. When ordering a simple meal of just pasta and marinara sauce I was given pasta with meatballs, not a big mistake which was quickly taken back and the meatballs were removed. The pasta was nearly inedible and the marinara sauce must have been just heated out of a can there was no attempt to make the sauce their own or to create more flavor. The salads are also soaked in dressings when a Cesar salad is smothered in dressing it takes away the texture of the lettuce. Seemingly disappointing up to this point I re ordered with prime rib and a large basket of fries and they to my surprise were delightful. read more

Walking into the restaurant, there was no host and a couple told us "it's a free for all, sit wherever". My boyfriend and I sat at a random booth. He ordered a beer and I ordered a glass of wine. It took 20 minutes just to get our drinks. I also asked for waters with lemon. The drinks came back with no lemon. My boyfriend wanted a second beer and it took an additional 20 minutes for someone to even come over. The food was TERRIBLE. I did not recognize a word in the description for the shrimp po boy I ordered. I asked the waitress what it was and she stated that it was an aioli sauce. An aioli sauce was already listed in the description and she stated it was listed twice. Little to my surprise .... the aioli sauce was sausage. I also asked for extra aioli sauce and right in front of our table the waitress asked another waitress where it was in the back. 10 minutes later she came back and stated that they ran out of aioli sauce .... My boyfriend ordered a pork sandwich with fries. The fries were very good but the sandwich was absolutely terrible. Neither of us ate our food. The waitress took our sandwiches off our bill and we ended up only paying for our drinks. The service, food, and common knowledge was absolutely terrible and I do not recommend this place to anyone. read more
