My husband and I have anyways loved PJ's meat pies, but not at all tonight. They tasted like a totally different meat pie and weren't even filled like they usually are. We were so disappointed we were looking forward to them tonight. I sure hope they didn't change their delicious recipe. read more

The pizza here was good 7.1 out of 10. Very straightforward pizza cooked nicely, similar to NY style but a bit thicker. Not the greasy greek pizza you see in Methuen Lawrence area, this is much better! The Calzone not so good. Bread wasn't cooked all the way and veggies looked like they were frozen. I think this is one of the better spots for pizza in the area, and will definitely get more pizza from this establishment! I liked the sauce is very generic. Not super garlicky or overpowered by oregano or anything. This is a nice raw tomato sauce. read more

PJ's Pizza Place is an institution, which has been in business for over 50 years, originally named PJ's Spaghetti House (different location) back in the 1950s. Located across the street from Malden Mills and next to a hair salon and barbership, the place itself is very small with a few tables in front of the counter. The walls are decorated with old pictures and articles/ads of the rich history PJ's and some old menu prices. You could eat lunch for under 30 cents back then. The prices today are still pretty reasonable, most menu items including whole pizzas are $10 and under. They offer pizza by the slice and pie, meat pies, calzones, subs, pasta, and blue plates (served with fries, salad, & bread). A catering menu and baked goods are also available by special order. I stopped in here to grab some slices of pizza for lunch. PJ's Pizza must be very popular since the place seemed crowded and busy with seven other customers standing around waiting for their orders. I did have to wait close to 8 minutes for my slices to be ready since the pizza was in the oven. The pizza slices ($1.57 each) were rectangular and very similar to the kind of slices sold at Tripoli. The pizza slice has a thin and very crispy crust topped with lots of sweet tomato sauce and cheese. This is good beach pizza, which could be messy to eat since the sauce is not thick. Other than the longer than normal wait, the pizza here was great and IMO, better tasting than Tripoli including the sauce. PJ's is the pizza of my childhood. I grew up basically around the corner from this shop and used to stop by frequently on my walk home from school. My whole family knows and loves this shop. The extra cheese is the slice that will forever taste better to me than any other pizza, even better than any pizza I might find in NYC, where I now live. The meat pie is the stuff of dreams. The food/sauce is consistently delicious. Good old fashioned chicken cutlets, meatballs, pasta etc. it's really the best around. This is the first place I've found since I moved here that really knows what a good marinara sauce should taste like. Only thing that sucks are the early closing hours and no delivery - but it's so good, I will eat early and drive to get it! It's just worth it. read more

I hadn't been the PJ's in about 30 years. Got a cutlet sub and it was delicious. The cutlet was crispy and tender with a tasty sauce on a soft sub roll. The pizza slices with extra cheese tasted exactly like I remember when I was a kid. The meat pie was sooooo good! We weren't allowed to get them as kids because they were more expensive than pizza. I remember my parents would give us a bite and it was awesome! So glad I decided to go back. I can't believe it looks exactly the same inside. I recognized some of the people that worked there in the photos on the wall. read more

The pizza is a Tripoli-Cristaldi's hybrid. Like when they cross a poodle with a Schnauzer or whatever. It's great pizza. Had a slice while waiting. We had called in 3 large cutlet sandwiches. We waited our arses off for those cutlets. Broke into 'em on 93 headed toward Logan. By the time we reached the Tewksbury exit, I was ready to declare it, "The best cutlet I ever had in my life". My brother, who's like the Julia Childs of cutlets, said, "Pretty good. I might make it one of my stops". Believe me, that's high praise from this arsehole. Go to this place. read more

I still call my orders in but when I ordered last night the girl on the phone told me it would be done in "7 minutes". Drove right down the and the food was ready on my arrival. When I was a little itty bitty young 'un, we'd visit family back in Lawrence and go to town on the meat pies. They are... UH.MAZ.ING. Seriously. Perhaps it's the 'comfort food' aspect of the pies... but the hot crispy dough on the outside - soft and warm on the inside, zesty flavorful meat filling - yeah, the meat pies are pure love wrapped up in a delicious doughy hug. Parking on the street is pretty easy during the day and the service is quick and polite. Just be sure to ask for sauce if you get your food to go! They make the absolute best Pork Cutlet subs! Thin, crispy, tender with a nice sweet tomato sauce on a soft roll. IMO, the best I've ever had, no other location in the area has anything close and trust me, I've tried them all. Did I mention they are HUGE! My family and I ate here the night of my nephew's graduation from Central Catholic. We ordered a meatball calzone, a chicken parmesan sub and I ordered the "blue plate" chicken cutlet which came with a salad and I requested a substitution of the soup of the day (minestrone) instead of french fries (it usually comes with fries.) I was attracted to come here by the other reviews saying that they had great cutlets. As a chicken cutlet aficionado myself, I strongly agree with the others. To me, it tasted similar to how Cedar Crest Restaurant used to make their cutlets which has always been a lifelong favorite. My daughter had a meatball calzone which was a "10." Thankfully, it was very big and she could barely eat half of it which meant I ate the rest the next day. My own meal was very, very good. The soup I took home because I concede that I couldn't even finish my own meal after eating so much. The only other important note to share is there was only two tables inside the place along with three other stools located under a small counter on the side wall. It was a very hot day and not sure if the air conditioning was broken but it was very hot to eat inside. That should not stop anyone from going there to buy delicious food but you need to think through where to eat it if the tables are full, or especially if it's a hot day. read more

PJ Pizza is a pizza place, but their specialty is the great veal cutlet sandwich. You won't find a better cutlet anywhere. I have been going here for 15 years, and the cutlet sandwiches are always excellent, never fatty. Try it you'll love it. read more

Went there today because there website reviews link said there subs where huge. "The size of two 8" plates .they were not even the size of one plate .there menu shows prices of 6 and change for lg subs I got there and there real menu was between 7.50 and 950 for a steak bomb. .. I bought 4 subs 37.00...ham and cheese mustard pickles. ..they but sweet round pickles on the the sub and onions didn't ask for onion? The Italian sub Mortadella salami and cheese again sweet pickles. Steak bomb "don't know what kind of steak it was Horrible. Finally chicken cutlet didn't get to try this one because it's was so small but the kids didn't complain. There are nice old pictures of what looks like a great Italian family on the wall....I wish one of them had shown the to Latina women at the counter how to make a sub. Ps the bread fell apart and the the ham fell out the bottom with the giant half's of onion. Never again ....sorry to review like this but you need to fix and pay attention to you business. read more
