We always enjoy the food from Oakland Ave Pizza but lately, something seems off. The last two times I've placed an Online Order, they had not even begun to prepare it when I arrived for Pick Up, 30 Minutes after placing the order. Both times, the guy at the counter was very apologetic and assured me that the order would be ready quickly. Both times I sat and waited in their sweltering shop for another 30 minutes while they prepared the food. I ordered the shrimp Alfredo pasta which is literally the worst thing I've ever had. The sauce tastes like ragu and there is barely any there. The shrimp smells awful like it's old like I'm actually afraid because I ate a piece and almost threw up right after. The garlic bread with cheese was just a piece of bread slapped with a piece of cheese and thrown in an oven for 2 seconds because the cheese ain't even melted. Oakland Ave Pizza & Subs is a little neighborhood eatery located across the street from Thwaite's Market. There is a lack of onstreet parking nearby and only 2 very tight parking spots behind this pizza place, one space already occupied by staff. The place itself is pretty old school with only one booth and a takeout counter, lighted menu boards, beverage cooler, and a freezer stocked with frozen treats. The menu offerings here include pizza, subs, salads, appetizers, seafood, and pasta at fair prices. They also sell ice cream bars, candy bars and snacks too. Currently, they have 3-3-3 deal which is 3 small one topping pizzas for $3.33 each and they also have churros too. I decided to stop here for a quick bite for lunch over the weekend. I ordered a large Chicken Cutlet Sub ($5.29) with lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, and American cheese (add 50 cents). The sub took about 10 minutes to be ready and there were no other customers present. The guy in the kitchen did apologize for the wait, which was actually no biggie since I've been to other places with longer waits. The chicken cutlet sub tasted pretty decent, which had the standard breaded white meat chicken patties and condiments, but I didn't care for the bread used. The white sub roll used was on the soft side with similar texture to untoasted Wonder Bread. I do enjoy my sub rolls on the soft side, but dense and chewy as well, like the Fantini sub rolls used at other local sub shops. If I happen to be in the area again, and there's parking available, I will have to give the pizza a try. The 3-3-3 deal for pizza sounds pretty good already. read more

Pizza: we ordered the honey barbecue pizza. It was okay. I've definitely had better. The chicken was good but it didn't have the same punch that you often find with bbq pizza. Delivery: TOOK FOREVER. Literally took 2 hours and arrived cold. We had to basically recook our pizza which ruined the meal. I even called twice and both times they said it was on the way. My break was already over so I had to leave and purchase a bagel at dunkin donuts for something to eat. After it arrived, I realized the salad dressing I paid extra for was not in the bag. I planned on having the salad for dinner at this point. I called Oakland. They said they would send someone with the dressing. 12 minutes later they arrived and handed me a bag with dressing. We decided to try this place because we craved a pizza. We're very particular about the crust and sauce. Their pizza did not disappoint! We ordered a medium with onion, sausage and green pepper. Very Good!, We also bought a Greek salad which was fresh a very good. We've lived in Methen for 8 years and just discovered this restaurant. We will be back and will recommend it to our friends. The reviews for this spot are great so I have figured we ordered on "off nights". We have tried a Tuesday, Monday and Sunday. Every single time the pizza was undercooked. Last night it was disgustingly undercooked. I put it in my own oven for 10 minutes to cook the dough. The cheese on top was browned when it arrived but it was like bitting into paste. The garden salad was shocking, it included one slice of an onion, on slice of a tomato cut into two, a hot pepper and about a table spoon of carrots. I have been coming here for the last five years and they never disappoint. Their subs are made just the way you ask, the chicken fingers are to die for, but my absolute favorite is their chicken broccoli Alfredo pizza. It has always been my go-to since moving to the neighborhood some years back. Elvin, the owner is wonderful. He truly cares about his customers and the quality of food he provides. His staff is great as well. The fact that the cooks open the pizza box to show me the result BEFORE I pay for it makes me happy and shows that they take pride in what they do. Solid pizza--great crust, cheese to crust to sauce ratio is spot on, and food is always warm when delivered. The crust usually has a slight crunch (slightly thin crust, not exactly New York style, but close to it). Their Buffalo chicken pizza is also delicious-always a lot of chicken and extra cheese! BUT, occasionally they have some pastelitos in the warming case and, while not exactly a pizza joint staple, these Caribbean delicacies are a welcome addition.
