Now this place is GREAT! I love liver and onions. They have great liver and onions. I would really like to try something else on the menu but it is 32 miles from my driveway to this cafe and I just don't want to miss my liver and onion. Every time I go there you can tell that the local's really like this place, too. The price's are creeping up, but that is not their fault. It is a sign of the times. Great little local dive in downtown Mountain View. The Reuben sandwich was very good, though the fries seemed like your garden-variety coated fries. There weren't many gluten-free options for my wife, she ended up getting a bun less burger. However, they did hand-cut fries fresh for her so she could enjoy some fries, which were very tasty. Our waitress was very attentive, and the restaurant itself was clean and well-kept. I would like to see some gluten-free bread/bun option, but understand not everywhere has a demand for provision of GF items. And while the cash or check only policy is only a minor inconvenience, it would be nice to be able to use a card. Otherwise, this place is great and definitely recommend for a low-priced quality meal. read more

It needs some TLC like updating booths floors, tables and chairs, just general refreshing. I love the atmosphere, style and small community feel. The food is alright alright, it's comfort food. I eat the same thing pretty much every time; chicken strips fries and cottage cheese. Very simple and I'm happy with it, but there's been times when I'm with someone else and sometimes their portions are good healthy portions and sometimes an entree will look more like a small appetizer. Sometimes things aren't seasoned well, or not what you thought you were getting. Most always the service is great. Most everyone one friendly, helpful and accommodating. It's really a lovely place, comfortable and welcoming. Just needs TLC, some consistency with the food. But don't touch the ladies "elvis ' restroom lol read more

Last week I ordered the chicken fried steak with white gravy, served with homemade mashed potatoes and gravy, with green beans to balance the plate!. I brought it back to the cabin and enjoyed 2 great meals from it. It was perfect when I added black pepper! Everything they cook tastes just like it's supposed too! read more

Heck yeah! I'd go back. It was standing room only at 12:30 on Sunday afternoon. A man in the corner gave me the nod signaling that he and the wife were leaving and to get the table. We traded places, him at the register and me and my wife at his table. He joked that he left us some coffee, a little hometown Arkansas humor. It's an old building, old furniture, a few flies hanging around. Crowded and noisy, filled with locals and tourists. I knew we were in business when an elderly gentleman with full beard and overalls bused our table. See picture I posted of him.. Wasn't long and we had coffee and our orders in. Not exactly Sunday Brunch in Connecticut. No Mimosa's or Croissants. We did have fast, skillfully prepared breakfasts that will keep going way past lunch! All in all a great place to eat. We had an excellent experience at PJ's. The ambience was just what we'd hoped for in a café. It looks like a place that hadn't changed much in 50 years. My husband chose the patty melt, and I had the chicken fried steak. Both were yummy! And we finished off the meal with slices of coconut cream and chocolate cream pie. The lady who makes the pies insisted that she warm them up for us - and that made them even better! Great food and attentive service. This place was right across the street from where we were staying and was an easy choice for breakfast. They have a made to order omelette where you select on your sheet what ingredients you want. we wanted to eat back at our place so I got to go orders. I was able to walk in, order, and then go back across the street to wait as there is no waiting area without sitting at an actual table. We got a couple of the breakfasts, keeping it simple. The eggs were nice and fluffy and the bacon was on point. However, what brings this review down was the sausage patties. They were pretty over cooked and tasted like something out of the frozen section at the grocery store. Avoid the sausage and you'll be in good shape. Oh ya, and as others mentioned, they do not accept credit cards and are closed on Mondays. read more

I have eaten here twice in three days. The first time, I had breakfast, a western omelette, potatoes, green peppers and onions. The omelette was dry, no fluff at all. While I can't say for certain that it is so, the potatoes had all the earmarks of having been cooked the day before and warmed up. I actually could not eat it. I had breakfast today, two day later, I had two eggs over medium, they were perfect, and fried grated potatoes. These seemed like frozen grated potatoes, heated just enough to put a brown on one side. The had soaked up an amazing amount of grease, and were tasteless. I also had biscuit and sausage gravy, the biscuit was pretty good, the gravy was thin and only had a symbolic amount of sausage. There was only enough gravy for half of the biscuit. The people were nice, and I wish them all the best, but they need to improve the food. read more

This place had a very "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" feel to it. Definitely a locally owned type place where the locals eat. We stopped for lunch: my friend had the chicken fried steak plate and I had the meatloaf lunch special. Neither one disappointed. Bonus: mashed potatoes were REAL. I would love to have been there for breakfast because their menu looks amazing. Definitely would stop here again and would recommend to anyone. They had a slight fly problem it seemed, but it wasn't a huge deal..oh, and what could easily be the largest collection of cookie jars in Arkansas. read more

The soup had no flavor and I told the waitress. She told the owner. He told me not to eat it, then he sent my waitress out to pick up my bowl. I got charged anyway. We piled in here with a ton of kids early this evening. Everybody was just awesome and the service was 100%. We got everything they would bring us, burgers that were perfectly on point for the kids, and we had some of the best chicken fried steak I can remember, and we put it with fried grits (!) and over-medium eggs for a well earned breakfast-for-dinner after a trip to the caves. Huge sundaes that looked like they were from the 1950s. Pie with meringue 5" high. Good, good, good hot coffee. I would be a regular in this place daily if I were local. Oh, the coconut pie. Hoo boy, it was magnificent. And the chocolate. I mean, I revisited my childhood. Epiphany-level diner kinda food, here. And the people, just super friendly and kind, the way we remembered from college (went to school south of here). Fine dining it's not... but it's super great. Try it out. read more

What a great find. I haven't eaten here in years. It was good back then, good, local home cooking. Friendly, popular local hangout. Never had fried grits before, so had to try them. Quite good. We are here for lunch while visiting the area. The people were friendly enough and the service was good. We ordered a bacon cheeseburger, chili cheese fries and the cheese sticks, at first. The burger was good, we will most likely choose other sides next time. However, we will be back. While dining, they brought another customer a piece of mixed berry pie. Omg. If for no other reason than to have a photo of, we had to have one (forgot to take the photo so you will have to see for yourself). This was hand down the prettiest piece of pie and the best tasting piece of pie I have ever eaten!!! 3 stars on the food, 5 stars on the pie!!! read more

Decided we would come here after passing it so many times. First impressions: the place is fairly cramped with two large tables in the back, booths for 4 lining both sides of the walls, and smaller tables in the front. You simply pick a place you want to sit and sit there, you are not guided to a seat. We waited about 10 minutes before we were served, with the people that came in after us being served before us. Our waitress seemed friendly, but talked with us very little. She was more friendly with the large group beside us. I ordered water because they don't carry Coca-Cola products (they carry Pepsi), but the water was distasteful. I had coffee instead, and enjoyed it much more. I ordered the BBQ pulled chicken sandwich with Monterrey jack cheese. My mom had the beef stew, and my dad ordered the "bigger and better" burger. My mom's food arrived without cornbread and no spoon. She described it as "alright" and "Not like [her] mom's." The sandwich my dad ordered he said was good, although despite saying mustard and pickle only, it came with onions. My BBQ pulled chicken sandwich came with a warm bun, but the chicken and such were cold, which was not how it was supposed to be served. I had the waitress take it back and warm it up. Despite being listed as a "Special," the flavor of the sandwich was actually very bland and not what I would consider special. BBQ sauce helped it none, and chunks of chicken were rather large for "pulled." My family and I will not be back. read more

We ate here 4 times during our 5 day trip to mountain view. Once for dinner, once for lunch and twice for breakfast. I had the open faced hot roast beef 2 of those times. It's so rare to find a hot roast beef sandwich anymore, especially a good one. I just couldn't pass up having it twice. The beef was so tender, gravy was good too and the mashed potatoes were real and a little lumpy, just the way I like them. Breakfast was amazing. The "rainbow minnie" was excellent. Diced country ham scrambled up with eggs. Had home fries on the side, which were real sliced up fried potatoes. Delish. My boyfriend had the country fried steak the first time and loved it. Had a mushroom burger the next time which he said was alright but not nearly as amazing as the country fried steak. This place is what a country diner should be. Not sure what all the fuss was about. We had a rather long wait for a very average burger. The restaurant was extremely busy, so the service wasn't great. The prices were good. Not a fan of the cash only policy either. To me, this is a sign of a business that doesn't want to pay its fair share of taxes. read more

My wife and I had two meals here while visiting Mountain View. On the main drag near the square. Definitely a locals hangout, and very friendly and lots of Elvis around! For lunch I had a Patty Melt - kinda plain - I've had better, but "OK". They overcame that mild disappointment with their banana cream pie - yummy! We also had a late weekend breakfast - "pecan" waffles, coffee, sides of bacon, and wife had an egg. A "Pecan" waffle means a regular waffle with a few crushed pecans scattered about the top of it - but tasty nonetheless.
