We brought our puppy here for three visits, for a round of normal puppy vaccinations. TL;DR - the vet accidentally gave my four-month-old puppy a double yearly rabies vaccine within two weeks of receiving his first one. These vaccines are supposed to be once per year. Not happy. Will be changing vets. First Visit: Our first visit was 3 days after getting a 10-week old puppy from a breeder. At this visit, Dr. Teferi noticed the puppy had a yeast infection in both ears, which the breeder had kind of warned us about but made it sound like it was resolved. So that was a good catch on Dr. Teferi's part, the puppy had been scratching a lot and apparently had ear discharge which I had not noticed in the two days we had him. On this first visit, the puppy also got a Bordatella and DHPP shot. Second Visit: About a month later, the puppy got a second DHPP and an annual rabies shot. Dr. Teferi gave us a rabies vaccination tag for his collar. Third Visit: Two weeks later, the puppy got his final DHPP vaccine and... another annual rabies shot, for some reason??? At the time, I didn't realize the rabies shot was supposed to be one-dose thing -- when Dr. Teferi said he was doing another rabies shot, I assumed that it was like the DHPP vaccine which requires multiple doses over a couple months. However, after the shots, Dr. Teferi gave me another rabies tag for his collar and I thought "wait -- he already gave us one of these." And so I did some research to find out if my puppy had just been accidentally given an extra rabies shot. I can only conclude that, yes, the 3 month old puppy was given two annual rabies shots within two weeks of each other. From what I can tell, it shouldn't affect the puppy in any way but I'm still not thrilled that my puppy was given a repeat vaccine by accident. The experience makes me feel like I cannot trust vets to know what routine preventative procedures are needed & I must do the research on my puppy's medical needs myself before going into the vet to have them performed. Maybe I was being naive for thinking that "the vet is an expert so of course the vet will know what to do for my puppy" and not reading up myself beforehand. I thought, someone with a medical degree should be able to know what their patient needs more than the patient's guardian, or otherwise why doesn't the guardian just get a medical degree themselves??? So, I guess I am grateful for this apparently harmless mistake, because it has now transformed my entire approach to veterinary care. I must say Dr. Teferi was very good with the puppy and the office was always clean and orderly. Although, on the third and final visit, a smoke detector was chirping every other minute because i assume the battery was low. This went on for the entire hour we were there, and made my puppy flinch every time it went off. I chose P St Pet because it had so many 5-star reviews, but I have now switched vets. Although the duplicate vaccine was a seemingly harmless mistake, I would never forgive myself if a second mistake occurred which actually caused harm. I would blame myself forever. I am grateful to Dr. Teferi for catching the ear infection, however I cannot tolerate basic mistakes like a duplicate vaccine or I will feel responsible if any future mistakes occur. read more

Wow! If you want good service and a vet who seems to really care, then go here and meet Dr. T. The dental cleaning, full package was very affordable and once done, we discovered some problems with our puppy. Dr. T took care of everything and it was very inexpensive. When we left, Dr. T told us his philosophy of individualized service for each pet and not leaving anything for the next day. I recommend this vet highly! Took my cat here for a rabies shot, and an ear infection. I am very picky about my vets, and was looking for a vet in DC for my 11 year old cat. Dr Teferi was so gentle with my cat, and genuinely cared about making him better. He gently cleaned his hot spot (infection from scratching his ear infection--two infections :( ), to make sure both infections were fully treated. I noticed their $199 dental special and immediately called to schedule an appointment - which was available the next day, a Saturday. I took my dog Daisy there and Dr. T was SO friendly and nice. He explained everything I needed to know and I felt very comfortable leaving her with him. The place was also 100% brand new and super clean - I was very impressed. When I came to pick Daisy up, he had photos of her teeth during the cleaning process and showed me where the gingivitis was so that I knew what to watch out for. The price was AMAZING and super reasonable, and Dr T even texted me the next day to make sure Daisy was doing ok. I will DEFINITELY be taking my business to Dr T and P Street Pet Practice from now on! read more

I'm very particular about where I take my dog, but this veterinarian exceeds all expectations. He spent 45 minutes examining her (for a UTI) and explaining to me what symptoms to look out for, etc. And the next day, he sent me a text message to see how she was doing. With this kind of service, you'd expect to pay a lot more than traditional vets, but that wasn't the case either! He charges $59 for the office visit, about half the price I've paid elsewhere. He was also very gentle with my anxious dog and seemed to genuinely care about animals. Ill definitely be back and encourage others to check him out as well! read more

I used to take my two cats to an animal hospital in Adams Morgan. That animal hospital was high-volume, a bit unkempt, and a bit chaotic. It was a very stressful environment for my hypersensitive cats. Both of them are extremely affectionate and have friendly temperaments, but every time we would take them to this animal hospital in Adams Morgan, they would react very poorly to the doctors there, become very difficult to handle, and wail as if they were being murdered. We couldn't even get them weighed because they would be so stressed out. Now I take both of my cats to Dr. T. at P Street Pet Practice, and it's a WORLD of difference. The environment at P Street is calm and clean, which is extremely important for cats, as they tend to be very sensitive to their surroundings. Dr. T. is like the cat whisperer. Not a peep from either of them when Dr. T. handles them! They don't try to wriggle free or claw at him, and they definitely don't hiss at him. Dr. T. is very communicative, and I appreciate that so much given that I'm a blubbering mess any time one of my cats gets sick. He has always thoroughly explained treatment options and consulted with me before taking any course of action. For example, I took both of my cats in for routine teeth cleanings, and during the procedure, he found that one of them was exhibiting signs of periodontal disease that could potentially worsen and cause an abscess. He called me as soon as he discovered it and explained my options and the basis for his recommendation. Over the past year, I have taken one or both of my cats in for eye infections, ear infections, a scratched cornea, and gastrointestinal issues. I trust Dr. T. completely, and I'm very grateful to have him as our veterinarian. read more

I must have called several times with follow up questions and he was very reassuring. The Dr and staff are professional and knowledgeable. I have brought my cat there both for routine check up work/vaccinations and for illnesses (respiratory infection). Each visit, the Dr knew exactly how to treat him effectively and help show how to administer medicine. The location is super residential and easy to get to either by metro or car. I have gone here for both my dog and my cat's dental cleanings, and for a recent scare with kitty. If you don't want to bother with the rest of my review, just know that he is knowledgeable, kind, and less expensive than other area practices. The most important thing in a veterinarian, of course, is for them to be knowledgeable enough to help your pet get better. Dr. T is definitely that. I am an annoying, neurotic over-researcher, and his advice has always been consistent with what I find online and with what my mother's veterinarian co-workers recommend. [Note: they work at a leading veterinary university, but I can't take my pets there because it's 11 hours away]. Price is also important, though none of us want to admit to being so mercenary about our darling furry friends. But we all know that veterinary care gets really expensive really fast. I won't say Dr. T is really inexpensive, but he's definitely not overpriced. Services are about the same or less than other practices in the area. The dental cleanings were particularly affordable. Kitty had to have full blood and urine analysis, and the tests came to about $400 - a bit steep, but again, nothing more than I would expect from other area practices. There are just so many other positives about this practice. Convenient hours, fast replies via email, and his staff is just lovely! read more

Wow. Today I got into a car accident and unfortunately my dog was in the back right where someone hit me. She exhibited signs I've never seen before so I panicked and googled vets near me in dc. The Veterinarian was able to see me shortly after and offered so much compassion to me and my dog. Today was super stressful but at no point did I feel like a fool for worrying so much and he reassured me about all the medical stuff. Dr. Teferi is wonderful! I am a first time pet owner and was a bit nervous going into my first appointment. My pup is around 6 months old and is a rescue from City Dogs. She suffers from parvo from her pre-rescue days and I was nervous about her treatment needs. Dr. Teferi walked me through the whole process and reassured me that she would be fine. I sent him all of her medical records from City Dogs a couple hours before my appointment and I was thoroughly impressed with his knowledge of her background.
