Overall, I'm pleased with work performed. They installed a drain and sump pump at bottom of bilco steps. The initial installation crew was horrible...and did not install system correct. However, I contacted office (Karin) to inform them of my displeasure with the work performed...they sent out a different crew the following week. The second crew was excellent...corrected the job and was extremely professional. I would use them again...only if they send the crew that corrected the work from initial crew. read more

Like the other reviewer, I cannot speak on the quality of their work, but the inspector came out and without even looking all that close, told me we had toxic black mold. It's amazing he knew this considering he never took any samples of anything. He calculated the square footage for dry ice blasting the mold, and it would've been $6500! I picked up a mold test kit at Lowe's for $40 and turns out it's not even "black mold" but rather a very common fungus that is basically no more harmful than toenail fungus. I advise you to be VERY cautious if you decide to deal with this company. read more

We have had an issue with water in our basement ever since we moved in to our house. PA Basement Waterproofing installed a waterproofing system with a sump pump in order to resolve this problem. They also remediated the mold issue, and tore out all of the old paneling and drop ceiling in preparation for refinishing our basement. (we are using another company to do the refinishing work.) Dave Socko, the salesman who met with us initially, did a great job. I appreciate how he took the time to educate us on the pros and cons of different waterproofing methods, and explained how their approach was different from some of the other companies out there. The whole process was very simple and hassle-free. They got the job done quickly (despite a snowstorm that happened in the middle of the job.) They kept us informed as to their progress, and they did a good job of keeping the area clean at the end of each day. It took them less than three full days of work to get all of it done. (Tearing out all of the carpet, paneling, drop ceiling, and some of the walls, and installing the waterproofing system, and getting rid of the mold growth) I would definitely recommend this company to anyone who has issues with water in their basement. read more

First, I can't speak to the quality of PA Basements' work because we never made it that far. I can however speak to our opinion of the nastiness of the salesman we dealt with and questionable company practices. Upon completion of the inspection and pitch we decided to sign on with them for mold remediation. The next day we found out our insurance might take care of it for us. My girlfriend contacted our salesman to cancel our contract (within the 3-business day cancellation period), and let him know that we were very happy with their service up until this time and were more than likely going to contact them again for services but we wanted to wait and see what the insurance company would decide. Instead of acting like a grown man and professional, and attempting to keep our business which we honestly intended to give them, on our time table, he screamed at her for a half hour and we believe lied numerous times in an attempt to deny our request to cancel. We eventually had to go through PA Basements secretaries (who actually seem like wonderful people) to get our refund from the "president" of the company. I put president in quotations since we never actually spoke to him about our issue as we were promised we would, so who knows if he was even advised of the issue and how we were treated. They couldn't simply return our check because they cashed it before the cancellation period was over, which doesn't seem right to us. Our insurance adjuster related to me that he called to speak with our salesman about the quote (forgetting that we told them we would no longer be using this company) and he was apparently rude to our adjuster and he even felt as though he was trying to dissuade him from approving our claim. Nice, right? Long story long, IMHO, don't use them. Stay away. Run! We really dodged a bullet on this one if their workmanship is anything like their customer service. AND, I'm happy to say that contrary to our salesman's insistence and best efforts, our insurance claim has been approved and we are taking care of the issues with another company. read more

If you are looking for professionalism and a company that shows pride in their work, DO NOT hire PA Basement Waterproofing inc. After hiring this company it has been endless headaches for 5 months now dealing with their unprofessional work and owners. I had hired PA basement waterproofing in April 2018 to install a sump pump, fill cracks, and remove mold in my basement. As a first time homeowner, I read reviews and saw that this company seemed to have a good reputation. Boy were we in for a surprise. On first arrival, the crew that was sent was not on the same page as to what needed to be done and what was initially discussed with their salesman. I had a bad feeling right there and wanted to cancel the whole project, but still had confidence this company could do a good job so we continued. After the sump pump was installed, it rained a day later. While we were away from home, water and mud were thrown from the pump all over our basement. Luckily we had a family member stop by and they were able to shut it off and make us aware of the issue. If our family hadn't checked it, our basement could have been flooded. In inspecting the "work" we discovered the check valve was installed upside down. From a company that's only job is to waterproof basements this was very pathetic. They are so unprofessional that they obviously didn't even run water through the system to test it before they rushed through the job and rushed off. With the help of family and friends, we bought new parts, spent extra money, and fixed the sump pump to a professional looking and more important, correctly working sump pump. In addition to this, there were many cracks that still weren't filled in and we had to call the company several times to have them come fill them in. And even after returning, all the cracks still weren't fixed. We had to even make a checklist for them to follow since they seemed to not quite understand what we were paying them $6000 for. We initially asked for a sealed system, but the lid they installed had a huge jagged U shaped hole cut in it. The entire job looked very amateur. It was not clean work, and not work that I would be proud to call my company. In inspecting the sump pump also, there was no stone put under it. When confronting them about many of these issues with the owners, I was mocked and called a "perfectionist". For $6000, I would have hoped this company would have strived for perfection. I believe this company felt we were young and wouldn't know any better, but as someone who installed a sump pump myself before, I knew what a correct job looked like. 3 months out from the job and at my last meeting with the owner, he shook my hand and said he would make this right and possibly take some money off for our hassles. He said he would call at the beginning of June. 3 months have passed, and my calls are being screened and messages aren't being returned. Their secretary says she passes the messages and still no response. I just hope this review helps any other home owner, first time owner or fifth time. This company took advantage of what they thought was a young couple with little experience. They were difficult to work with, unprofessional, and did an overall unprofessional looking job. Shady practices. Sold my mother a basement sump without even attempting to locate the source of the water. Turns out the underground drain pipe that the downspout runs into was clogged causing the water in the basement. It was this simple. The basement didn't start leaking after 40 years in this house and she didn't need $4249 worth of work. I would expect that with all of these years of experience Jim would have seen this. It was too obvious to overlook as it ran along the driveway in full view. I unclogged the drain and attempted to cancel the work but they refused and would not refund her deposit of $2000. My mother felt that completing the project could help the value of her house and did not want to walk away from the $2000. Part of the quoted work was to tie in the downspouts and run them away from the house. They did not tie in both drains and now have left the drain that was originally blocked empty at the corner of the foundation next to the drain they extended! I could not believe they actually extended one drain and not the other!!! To top it off they only extended that drain 6 feet and not 10' to the road. It now flows across her sidewalk which has caused icy conditions that were never there before. I called them monthly to address the drains. I simply wanted them to connect the other drain they blatantly missed and extend the drain the remaining 4 feet to the road. They would tell me they would have someone out to inspect it but this never happened. They eventually stopped talking to me and would only speak to my mother who was named on the contract, and again was lied to when they said someone would contact her about coming out. I do not recommend this company. A professional company would have determined the cause of the water and not taken advantage of an older couple. Again, the work was completed but not finished. The water enters the basement and the sump works but that is because the drain empties to the corner of the house and was not extended like the one next to it. read more

DO NOT HIRE... PA Basement Waterproofing Inc. After hiring this company in January 2018 it has been endless phone calls for almost a year now dealing with their unprofessional work and owners. It is now December 2018 and the calls and the untruths continues. Jim Horton the owner finally came out on November 6th 2018 (10 months later) to look at the finished work in the basement that was done in January 2018. 8 Kevlar straps on 1 wall to support it that doesn't have enough epoxy on them to support correctly, uneven, rough concrete and also paper thin concrete, the whole way around the basement floor where the inside french drain and 2 sump pumps were installed, white waterproof liquid that is thin, uneven and applied badly. I told him his own contractor agreed with the unprofessional concrete work. The one contractor told me when they fixed the ruts in the yard where they got their pickup stuck, that he knew they would have to be back. I told Jim that day that my mistake here, and I knew better, was to give him a check for 10,000 for the completion before it was done. Total in all $13,557...Jim should know better too, but he WANTED the check 4 hours before the guys nearly ran out of the house and left 2 inches of solid mud, slush, and mess on all the basement steps (11 steps) for me to clean. I called him on the phone as they were traveling back to Harrisburg barely able to speak. The check was cashed the next day. I have so many pictures and videos of when and how they left the basement and since then. I also have video of their messy work each day they left. They even used my hammers, ext cords because there was concrete all over them where they used them. They put a weep hole from the drill in the good part of the floor and also left their concrete bucket and trowel by the hole. The basement is stopped in time since January. Jim said that day (November 6th) when he was out that he would talk to Jim Shadle the other owner and call me the NEXT DAY on what can be done to fix it right. He knew it was going to cost them some money. I believed him. My son did not. No call. I have been calling ever since November 6th. He lets his voicemail fill up on his cell phone with my calls and doesn't return any calls. The office number is automated now so they screen calls and don't return them. He accidentally answered his phone and I caught him off guard...This was Thursday, November 29th. He said he was going to have a meeting in the morning with Jim Shadle the other owner the next day, (Friday - November 30th). I was to call him at 10 am. Very insistent. I did. Went to Voicemail and I filled up the Voicemail box. No calls back and since. This is December 3rd. As a homeowner, I read reviews. My son who lives down past Harrisburg contacted them first and then I took over. We saw that this company seemed to have a good reputation. Boy was I in for a surprise here. I had a bad feeling when my front wheel drive van came up and down the driveway freely, even backing up and going forward real slow and they were stuck at the end of the driveway and the whole way up, multiple days...Stuck in the yard, pushing. Oh my... Right there and wanted to cancel the whole project and get someone else. I still had confidence though because of the reviews that this company could do a good job, so I continued with the project. A company that's only job is to waterproof basements was very unprofessional when they don't know how to finish concrete and do straps and use waterproof liquid. My dad built his own 3 car garage stone house. I know what is professional and unprofessional. Their manager of getting crews scheduled, Karin who freely talked to me before, screens the calls for the business. Her husband works for them I believe. No returns from her or her cell. They are difficult to work with, unprofessional, and did an overall unprofessional looking job. They will take your money and your contract doesn't mean much. I will continue each day to call Jim Horton the owner till he returns my calls and fixes this...( I know they were down South trying to get business with all the flooding down there). I was told that by another gentleman that works for them, that he was going to hang up on me and to call the owner. Jim Horton the owner told him the basement doesn't have water in it and it is OK.).. I am so sorry I didn't put anything up till now and people went by the reviews. Very pleased with the six man team that worked at my house for a two day period. They worked hard and with a lot of integrity. My house was built in 1936 and working in my basement can be "complicated". They did a great job, so far so good, and with the warranty I am sure I will not have any future issues. I can't speak for anyone else, however when I had Pa Basement out to my new home for water in my basement and mold on the drywall our inspector was very informative and gave us the best solution to remedying our problems. He even gave us a first time home buyer discount because we had only lived in our home for 2 months. The crew leader that came out was very knowledge also, he went step by step through the whole process, even sent me pictures of the work as it progressed.
