After eating at several Argentinian restaurants recently, I've been on a chimichurri kick. I have…read moretried chimichurri sauces from Whole Foods and Trader Joe's but they aren't really very authentic. A friend recommended seeing what El Gaucho might have, so I visited the next day. The market is easy to spot with a big street sign out front. There are only two parking spots in front, one is a handicapped space. There's plenty of parking around the back though. When you walk in, you will see the main market with lots of items and brands I've never seen before. Slightly to the right is their deli counter with lots of meats, cheeses, and other miscellaneous items. To the right of the entrance is a dining area, and another counter where you can order sandwiches, empanadas, pizza, French fries, and drinks. I was laser focused on getting the chimichurri and leaving since I was short on time. It is in plastic bottles in plain view on on top of the deli counter. I purchased the regular variety, but they also have a spicy version. I could already tell this was going to be way better than the other two sauces I tried. I've had it on a steak, and on my breakfast scrambled eggs, and it's in a whole different league from the grocery versions I tried. It looks just like a restaurant chimichurri, oil based with lots of herbs and spices. I just had a nice filet mignon with chimichurri at a good Argentinan restaurant last week, and this chimichurri is about 90% as good. I moved it from the plastic bottle it comes in to a glass jar which will hopefully help preserve it longer, and store it in the refrigerator. I now have no reason to look elsewhere for chimichurri. My friend visits here periodically and says the sandwiches are excellent. I'll have to return again to try one, get more chimichurri, and explore the market and deli to see what other goodies they have.

There is also a small diner where you can enjoy the delicious foods or some wine and beer while you sit and discuss who is the most legendary footballer (soccer). There are big screen TVs with murals of all the footballer greats. The people are friendly, the food is good, and the vibe is awesome! Great place to watch World Cup and cheer!

Los he amado muchos años.

I made things a bit worse by grabbing a salad from the bar and joining him, hoping they'd let us stay. In the kindest way possible, the staff gently let us know we couldn't, so we happily moved to the bar for a drink while we waited. Even though we were far from perfect guests--especially on one of their busiest days--the management showed incredible hospitality. They generously bought us a round of drinks and soon after seated us at a beautiful table by the glass. It turned a potentially awkward moment into a wonderful experience. This restaurant has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember--it's been here longer than I've been alive. No matter the circumstances, they always treat you like a valued guest. I truly love this place and will continue coming back for years to come (as long as I'm still in California!). A huge thank you to the manager who went above and beyond to make my dad's Father's Day special.

We watched table after table being served their plates whom were seated after us AND those tables finish their meals before we were even served. When our plates were finally served, the waitress didn't even acknowledge the ridiculous wait time nor did she apologize for whatever reason it took longer than it should. It seemed like our table, for only my spouse and I, was ignored and walked past until we had to alas ask for a box and the check. Also, I ordered my prime rib medium rare, which was served nothing close to what I expected and was told that it's in fact medium rare... Waiting was annoying, but it could have made it better with an apology and acknowledgement from the waitress that it was in fact longer than it should have been, which we did not receive. Even after paying and bringing the check, she never apologized for the dinner taking close to an hour to be served.
