Decided to visit this spot because of an Instagram post I saw. You buy the meat from the Carniceria And they cook it for you outside over Mesquite charcoal for free!!! They also sell bomb salsas which you can try before you buy. You have option of trying the salsa with a piece of Chicharron or chips. Salsas tasted amazing! Especially the Guacasalsa. The cashier was also a nice lady! She had a great customer service and made me feel at home . They also have a panaderia which makes fresh bread and cakes. This place is one of the best (if not the best) Mexican markets I've been to, and that is saying a lot for someone who grew up in SoCal. We have been coming here for a while for their chicharrones (MUST try!) but decided to branch out and get lunch here today. Some of the best carnitas I've ever had, and everything is super reasonably priced. When you walk in, the smell of baked goods takes you to another place! I can't wait to go back and try more of their menu items and baked goods! The molcajete salsa and ceviche in the grab and go fridge was also absolutely perfect. Rubalcava's is a small Mexican grocery store located in Placentia. It is actually both a small grocery store, and also a panaderia/taqueria. Inside the the grocery side of the store is a carniceria, where you can buy all kinds of meats, chorizo, and marinated meats. You can buy all kinds of breads inside the panaderia. If bread is not your thing, they have tacos, tortas, and a bunch of other things on their menu. They are most famous for their flour tortillas. They won the OC Weekly's award for "Best Flour Tortilla" in 2012. Their famous flour tortillas must be ordered in advanced. The person who makes it only makes the tortillas a few days a week. It took me almost a month of calling before I finally coordinated my schedule so that I could try their flour tortilla. For me, it was a let down after I finally got them. I didn't think they were that good. Their meats looked good. Most markets use flap meat for carne asada. Rubalcava's uses skirt steak. I picked up some marinated skirt steak. The meat was thinly sliced, so it cooked really fast. The crane asada was good, but, I thought. It had a tad too much of lemon flavor. While there, I had to go to the restaurant side of the market to try some of their tacos. After all, the wife and daughter weren't with me. The tacos were good sized. It was filled with carne asada, onions, and salsa. The regular priced tacos are $1.25. On Taco Tuesday, it is about 75 cents. Along with the taco came carrots and jalapenos. It's a nice little market. I would come here more to get their meats and food. But, since the daughter dislikes Mexican food, I gotta sneak here when I can. read more

When I got home I realize they charged me $53 instead of $23 so I had to drive all the way back for a refund. Don't even bother buying tamales from this place. We tried them at the Placentia Tamale Festival. They were really good, so I decided to order 4 dozen for Christmas Eve gathering. Was trying to find a closer place vs driving to ELA. Waste of money. I was better off going to Northgate. All masa, dry, no flavor, hard and no meat or chicken. We called and complained. They said to bring back and they will make a new batch for us. Only difference is they were not hard as a rock. Was just like the 1st batch we picked up. $35 a dozen smh!! We got robbed. Yummy yummy yummy! The amount of stuff they have here is amazing. More like a one stop shop. I ordered asad tacos, got a side of guac and chips. First the tacos , the meat had lots of flavor i loved the red and green salsa spicy so be ready lol. The chips are made there and nice and crunchy and last the guac, made there but way too much lime flavor. But overall everything was good. Last i got a piece of chicaron that too had yummy flavor but was alittle dry like it was sitting umder the warmer too long. My family has been coming here for a long time to buy cake, meat, pan dulce but that was when it was rubalcavas the store has a new name and new management I'm pretty sure because I was extremely disappointed with the cake they made for my nieces birthday party! We paid $65 for this, and it's awful. When we called to complain the manager was very rude. We took the cake back to the shop and the manager had just "left" after we had been talking to her 5 minutes earlier on the phone. They said they would fix it for us but we would have to wait and we weren't going to get our money back. We ended up getting our money back but we had to return the cake so we had to rush and try to get a cake for the party; since they seemed to have no interest in helping us. A while ago I went on a search for chicharrones because the stuff you get in the grocery store claiming to be pork rinds are barely edible. I went to every Mexican market in my area, purchased bags and bags of pork rinds of all kinds and Raffa's were without a doubt, hands down, the best. No one else's even came close. So ever since then, I have been stopping at Raffa's every time I get a craving for chicharrones, but because I tend to be narrowly focused on the task at hand, I never noticed the rest of their menu. Today my daughter was with me and we decided to stop and get some chicharrones and while we were waiting in line, she noticed the menu board and suggested ordering lunch too. We ordered the Family Pack Carnitas. They were AMAZING. Pretty much the best carnitas I've ever had from a restaurant. And the tortilla chips were delicious. And the ceviche was delicious. And the frijoles were delicious. And the Spanish rice was delicious. And the Molcajete salsa was delicious. Everything we ordered was fresh, delicious, and high quality. My only regret is that I waited so long to try anything else on the menu besides the chicharrones. The service was fast and friendly. I love supporting small businesses like this who obviously care about their product and strive to produce the best. I will definitely be back for more. read more

First timer and I think I will become a regular. This place is definitely a hidden gem. When trying new places I typically get a few things to try. The sign out front says they have the best tamales so I tried 2 pork tamales. I've had many good tamales and Raffa's is pretty damn good! Can't judge if it was the best because I'm not qualified, but I will be coming back for more. Also tried the menudo. The sauce is a little thicker than what I've come to expect and flavors are similar to an enchilada sauce. After adding lime juice, onion, oregano & cilantro, it was also pretty damn good! Lastly, al Pastor burrito. The pork was seasoned well and there was plenty meat inside the burrito. As I was waiting for my order, I couldn't help but notice all of the trays of fresh pan dulce that was being brought straight out of the oven. Sure, it had no A/C and was hotter than hell on a random day in July, but the lady behind the counter was super friendly (brought us free samples of all of their drinks), and the food was tasty and relatively inexpensive. This place is totally new, only been around for a few short months. They finally opened up their Panaderia which is awesome. Their location isn't so great because they are behind weinershniztel, boo! The first time I went there I got the California burrito. Basically that means a burrito with French fries in it. Why oh why is this called a California burrito? Who came up with this? Anyways it was delicious. It was kinda small for the price but I think it is due to their urgency to regain from their start up costs and I dont blame them, it's a tough gig. DIRTY, UNSANITARY, OH NO! I have been here 3 times and have finally decided never to come back. The first time I came here: the people were friendly, the service was quick, the prices were a little high but food and drinks were good. The second time I came: it took two people and 25 mins to get my order of 3 chamurados! They said it would be 5 mins, the lady helped 4 others and when 10mins had passed I reminded her about my drinks. So she said they would be right out and called some other girl to handle them. All they did was stick the drinks in the micro to warm up. But then the girl left and after another 5 mins I asked for my money back and she kept saying "No they are coming". So she herself went to get them but they weren't warm yet. So I said I would warm them up myself and she wouldn't give me my money back or even offer me a discount/free drink to apologize! The third time I went I ordered some food and champurrado to go. Again they took forever just to warm it up in the microwave. Then as I am waiting I see this girl take some gloves out of her pocket and go handle bread to restock bolio. Another customer walks in to pick up food and the same cashier takes off the gloves and puts them in her pocket. She rings up the customer and then goes back to put her gloves on. As she is putting n the second glove she drops it on the floor, picks it up, smacks it against her knee (as if that cleaned it), puts it on and goes back to handling the bread. I WAS DISGUSTED!
