I was not expecting results but I was expecting some kind of communication. A simple -"The test is complete. We cannot disclose result but you will be contacted." -"Thank you for coming in you will receive result by mail." By chance the principle came out and I asked if that was all. She said "yes." This was after she made the comment "is your daughter from Mexico." Yes this came from the principle. I was in shock the principle of a elementary school would be make such a comment. I did respond "No, we are from Riverside but I would like my daughter to learn Spanish properly. Not broken the way I would teach her." The principle replied "yeah, read and write." There was another Hispanic family enrolling there children into the school when I was there. I really hope they did not mistreat them or make racist comments because I sure felt as if this school is not the best fit for my daughter. Instead of my daughter coming out of the test excited the way she did at RUSD test this morning. She came out to dead silence. My daughter is very friendly and not shy at all. When she came out she had her head down and was upset. I now understand why they have such bad ratings. I went to inquire about enrolling my child into this school and received very rude treatment from…read morethe front office (Cassandra). I was completely turned off by her unprofessionalism, lack of eye contact, and the way she treats children. The front desk/office is the face of an establishment, the representation of what is the come. After talking with different parents I came to found out the following: * HIGH turnaround on teachers/staff. * The area is bad. * Homeless are constantly within feet of the school and the police don't always clear them out in the mornings. * Restrictions on taking your own child out of school during after hours!? * Over capacity of students. Most often times they need to eat lunch in their classrooms. *During the summer, the air conditioners don't always work, and the children are forced to eat outside with no shade. *Every year, at least 1 teacher leaves the school. Sometimes mid-year! Do yourself a huge favor and do your due diligence. Talk to other parents there and drive around during business hours and you can see it all for yourself.

I wrote an earlier review that I want to comment on. This first year of school was definitely a…read moredifficult one for our daughter and our family. After the school finally got our daughter tested she was diagnosed with dyslexia and a comprehension disorder. In order for us to be able to get this done we hired an educational advocate. Now the school and all teachers and everyone involved has definitely shifted their course.. they are now fully on board with helping her achieve appropriate educational goals, and respect our family structure and effort's to help our daughter and son that attend the school. I am a firm believer of working with people even when things are difficult- I am sad that it took so much effort for us to get our daughter tested but I understand that there is due diligence and a process to getting these things done. My best advice to any parent is to be persistent and know what your rights are. When she started receiving speech therapy and other one on one instruction her understanding and abilities to do her school work great increased. She is still not at grade level but I AM RELIEVED THAT WE NOW HAVE A PLAN TO HELP HER AND ARE SEEING THE BENEFITS OF THAT PLAN. The teachers are wonderful and we truly appreciate All they have done. I've had to work with several of the administration during the process of having an IEP and have come to point where I know we see eye to eye. We look forward to many more GOOD years at Magnoila Elementary.

Anytime I have needed help and or assistance he sends someone else to do the work for him. I was concerned that my child was not grasping basic phonics and words, I wrote a letter to the school asking that she be tested so we could help her and give her the proper resources if needed. (Mind you this is 2021-2022 school year and she didn't have a "proper public school education" in 2020 like most children, even though I hired a private tutor who also expressed concerns regarding her reading and phonics) I had to ask them a few times if she had been tested before she was actually tested!! And guess what!!?? she did have a reading and phonics issue like I had informed them. she was behind in her reading skills and was at risk for falling even further behind. So they enrolled her in a 3 day a week reading program.. we have yet to see if this will be effective. They called a meeting where we went over an educational plan, I expressed my concerns that I think she might have a learning disability.... It was presented that we need to rule out all possibilities. I am happy to comply and do what is needed for my daughter to be successful. However warning to all parents, they are going to invite a trained therapist into any parent meetings. After we discussed an educational plan the therapist said we'd like to also understand your home life, and see if there's any contributing factors that might be keeping her from learning. She asked me and my husband very personal questions about how we handled Covid with our children, was there any trauma in our lives, how is My daughter sleeping at night because her teacher says she is tired, the list goes on. When I finally felt so overwhelmed thinking and talking about all of these things.... It was clear they where looking at us like WE ARE THE PROBLEM!! I can't believe that they would look at us as we came to them for help and turn it around as if we are causing the problem!! There is a underlining culture that parents just show up and drop your kids off and shouldn't say or do anything else. How dare I ask for help!! How dare I hold them accountable to test my child when that's their job!! All children are struggling because of Covid and they should be ashamed of themself for ever making a parent feel like that.
