I followed her from another counseling center, so my rate is lower than other people's because she allowed me to keep my old rate. Otherwise I would've had to stop coming. I don't know much more about the center in general, it just seems like a place where therapists rent rooms. It's cozy though, and I like the little patio with all the plants outside. I am an established resource parent in Alameda County, I originally went through the county itself…read more(social services) to be certified for foster care etc and then we later adopted through the county. We now have been finalized with our daughter for 3 years and are ready to expand our family again through fost /adopt, but we decided that we wanted more input than we were allowed to have with the county. My daughters sister (who was also in foster care) ended up in a great home and that all came about through A Better Way, so we decided to look into their program and have begun our pride training classes. Since this is my 2nd time going through pride training (my last training was more than 5 years ago) initially I was not at all excited, but I have to say that I am really enjoying the classes. Being that I have been a foster parent, a concurrent planning placement parent and now an adoptive parent I am quite familiar with how things work, what the kids go through etc... and A Better Way does a really good job of balancing giving out that information (and not scaring people) along with presenting the lighter side of fost/adopt. I am very eager to finish the training and get to the next and so far so good. I would recommend a better way to anyone considering fost/adoption.

When we hug goodbye, we often tell one another we love each other. It is a very unusual relationship for a therapist and client. She actually gives me presents for my birthday and Christmas, ever since my parents died--and prior to that, she would give me presents for "milestone" birthdays. She has given me a LOT of free time, such as when I had my second and last breakdown, in 2006, and she used 30 hours of her personal time to find me a residential treatment facility, instead of going back to the hospital, when I was still depressed, after hospitalization--my parents paid the bill, back then, and they were not willing to hospitalize me once more, which I understand. I first found Soonja, when I was living in Sonoma County, and I saw her ad for therapy for "undermothered" women, at the food co-op I used to shop at, and something about that description of her work appealed to me. Once I started going to her, I realized quickly how much she cares, and that is why I continue to go to her to this day.

The two of them are amazing healers and have been nothing short of a dream team! In my path to higher growth and consciousness, I've had some delays and blockages along the way. To help this, I first worked to get my physical body in order with Lisa in May 2014. Shortly thereafter, by about June 2014, I began my healings with Karen. By mid August, my life dramatically shifted. I had been very stuck in all major aspects of my life - career, home, relationships, finances - everything seemed a mess. I had finally identified that once I left my job, the other situations would be able to fall into place more easily. So Karen and I worked very hard to get to the root of what was actually holding me back from all of this, way way deep down. We worked together very intuitively and openly, and after about 8 or so sessions, I attracted a job in which I get to be the online voice for an international medical skincare company, working directly with the celebrity doctor who created the products (I'm a writer). I had confronted and cleared several other major blockages as well in that time, one being unfinished conversations with an old relationship that had been long holding me back. I can say for certain that I was able to attract this type of change into my life because of Karen's help in achieving higher/deeper clarity. I felt blocked and I knew I needed help clearing those blockages, and she certainly did just that. And she helped build my confidence along the way. I am sometimes so in awe of the work Karen does because it seems like it can't happen that quickly or that "easily" (for lack of a better term). However on the reverse, it makes perfect sense. She's helping you to pull out issues, and once you get there - once you've identified it, you see it, you're aware of it - it's suddenly not so hard to move past it. When the unaware is brought to our consciousness, we can't "unsee" or forget it. And this creates a complete and total shift, an essential "light bulb" moment, that can finally help you get unstuck. And Karen is a complete and total expert at doing so. On top of all that, Karen is a very loving and warm person, and I feel extremely safe and comfortable with her. She is so supportive, and I am just so grateful to know her. She has forever been a part of shifting my life for the better and I can't wait for what's to come from future appointments.

I first encountered Theta Healing work when I moved to the East Bay and attended a Goddess Meet-up…read morewhich I thought would be a good way to meet other interesting women in the area. While there I met a woman who did Theta Healing and I must admit that little voice in my head said, "Theta what?...SIGH...only in the Bay Area." And that is about all of the thought I gave it UNTIL Karen asked me if I would like to experience a session. Since Karen is a friend, and kindred spirit, I thought "what the heck" I will do it for her. HAH! 12 sessions later and lots of old beliefs behind me with more to uncover all I can say is WOW! This work is LIFE CHANGING! As an intuitive once said to me, "Lisa needs to take her big bag of beliefs and dump them on the carpet of life and decide which ones are working for her and get rid of the ones that aren't." That, in a nut shell, is what this work will do for you. BUT, and this is VERY important...WHO guides you is EVERYTHING! I now know why the woman I met years ago didn't speak to me...quite simply, she was NOT Karen! If anyone was clearly perfectly designed to do this work I would say it was Karen. She is kind and gentle yet pushes you at just the right moments. She is sensitive and caring and deeply feels your pain but doesn't get caught up in your "story". She has an uncanny ability to tease out the important words that get to the root cause of the belief and she does it with grace, ease, a sense of humor and all with that absolutely delightful accent that you can't quite pin (South African). Did I forget to mention that Theta Healing works? You know SHIFT is happening, when your friends say to you, "That is weird, I would have expected you to react to that." Ultimately that is what you will find for yourself. At some point you will realize that what normally would have triggered you just doesn't seem to carry the same charge anymore. Why you ask? Cause ACTIONS are based on BELIEFS and when you do the work to change the underlying belief your RE-action changes accordingly. I think the highest compliment one can give is a referral because it means you trust that the person (in my case my client) that you are referring will have a good experience with the practitioner you are recommending.
