Yesterday I saw this market and dashed in for a quart of milk. The first thing I see is the meat counter with its gorgeous array of fresh fish and meat, all neatly covered with a clear wrap. What other butcher counter does that? Hello to the fresh sturgeon steaks that called my name. My favorite fish is very hard to find and super expensive. These steaks per pound seemed way cheaper than any other meat or fish since this economy jumped into the handbasket. The sturgeon was delicious grilled and seasoned with a little duck fat oil amd lemon. I also got some enormous thick loin lamb chops and some veal stew to make my mother's fabulous veal saute (on the stove as we speak) recipe. They had real almond macaroons and an amazing assortment of Ukrainian, Russian, and Armenian delicacies and staples. I like coming here to find difficult to source products. The deli is terrific. I don't know all the different kinds of soup and hot foods, but I am learning. I am really smitten with the bakery and all the cakes. This is the only place, that I know of, that sell cake by weight. Not all the cake is sold by weight. The round cakes has round cake prices. The rectangular cakes in the lower shelf are sold by weight. They take the cake you pick out and hold a knife across it until you say when. I think the by weight cakes run $10.99/lb. read more

A bit of a disappointment visiting this newly painted store. We were hoping for a more international stock of groceries. We were intrigued to find that it is primarily an Eastern European grocer but only carries a small amount of Asian and other cultural food. Perhaps they will add more as business allows. I had some free time so decided to come by Pacific Coast Foods. They have the most diverse selection of food in the deli section. salads, soups, fish, meat dishes, stuffed cabbage, and starches. They offer 4 different breakfasts here. very affordable 6.99 or 8.99. They have very fancy honey here, ranging from 9.99 to 59.99. Pacific Coast Foods has very fancy chocolates. Some are French, Belgian, and Russian. My friends always ask where did you get the fancy chocolates? There are 3 places where you can get cake. There's a refrigerated section by the deli. There's a bakery and an icebox next to the bakery. I haven't eaten here. There are a few tables. It's very bright, I don't like that. Store is really clean products are faced. My wife and I went to this store very often and bought this salad there. On Tuesday 05/14/2024 we bought this salad for dinner. We were very disappointed. The fish in the salad is not cleaned at all, we got not only the bones, but also the fin! It's crazy! Our guest's bone plunged into the gums, I had to pull it out with tweezers. They have a hot food section, a bakery section, candy section, produce, and more (they do not serve or sell alcohol). It was very spacious, well-organized, and clean on a Saturday around the lunch hour, though the parking lot is a little tight at the entrance. We'll definitely be coming back. (Even more detail on my blog lol link in my profile.) Their hot food stayed hot on the 30-minute drive back! Cabbage Rolls (Beef) - 3/5: Day-of, I had one that tasted a little off, but I was fine. Had one the second day and that one tasted much better. My partner prefers ones that have more of the tomato sauce. I'm no golumpki connoisseur - these tasted as good as any others I've had, and I can't recall any having particularly stood out. Chicken with Tomato and Cheese - 5/5: I have no idea what this is called, but it tasted almost like a Vietnamese-seasoned pork (I have no idea how else to describe the flavor) topped with a thin layer of mayonnaise, topped with a thin slice of tomato and melted cheese. Basically a bun-less burger. It was excellent and I look forward to having more. Chicken Kiev - 2/5: Their chicken kiev was only okay. I felt the chicken was a bit dry and the breading needed more salt (but it wasn't oily on the outside, which was nice). I liked the fresh dill that was inside (along with the signature large amount of butter). I don't think I would get it again, but I didn't have any regrets. Sturgeon - 4/5: I'm still not sure how this dish is prepared or what exactly it's called, but it's basically a buttery baked slice of fish. If you're not super into fish dishes, I wouldn't recommend it, but I love a fishy dish (catfish, usually). I thought this was flavorful, tender (I bet when it was just taken out of the oven, it was cooked to absolute perfection), and juicy. I would get this again. Borscht 4/5: My partner said this was one of the best versions of borscht he's ever had. I would agree, though I've not had that many. It was salty and nicely flavored with beef (that's probably why it was so good - I don't think we've ever had beef in our borscht). The chunks of beef were tasty, but I'd say my favorite part of this was the potatoes. Probably golden potatoes, as they absorbed the flavor, maintained their shape, and were still buttery and soft. Compote 5/5: I was expecting this to be too sweet, but it was actually the perfect "not too sweet" and I 100% will get it again (maybe more next time). You can taste all the fruit flavors mingling on your taste buds. Very fresh fruit juice! I would compare the sweetness level to a good Asian pear. Napoleon Pastry - 3/5: A few online reviews recommended these. We got one that was rectangular in shape (I'm not sure what the differences are). It was flaky (the moisture had seeped into it, so not very crispy) and had some sort of whipped cream in it. I liked it and would eat it again, but would not go out of my way to buy it again. Varieties of Honey Cake (?): Wafers are very popular with Eastern Europeans, as are treats made with honey and nuts. I am here for this. I have no idea what we got, but they were all very tasty variations of wafer-like honey cakes. - (4/5) Flat rectangular bar with bird's milk chocolate on it: The most like a wafer, but more cake than wafer. I would get this again. - (5/5): Tall and puffy/round cake that fits in the palm of your handThis was my favorite. It has your wafer layers, some very granular bits of nuts, and layers of a lightly whipped cream. We're not familiar with Eastern European languages or candies, so picking a one was challenging. However, we chose and were not disappointed! We got some chocolate cubes from ABK (5/5) that are basically hazelnut and nuts (similar texture to a Nestle Crunch, except with actual good quality). I picked some sesame seed / chocolate / honey candy. They are not too different than the other one, but also a 5/5 not-too-sweet. Other than that, lots of good teas and cured meats! I absolutely recommend you come here and go straight to the hot counter. The food is amazing. I can't wait to try every selection they have to offer! Because we travel to the store from Auburn, CA -- we buy in bulk. On my last trip to this store in May 2023 I have bought 2 packages of Lithuanian icec-ream with expiration dates in October of 2022, impossible to eat, disgusting; prepared herring salad with beets ( ) -- spoiled, half of the liver pate cake -- it was sour on the day of the purchase -- I should have tried it in store, but I am not used to doing that, because I trusted the quality of the produce here for so long. A happy place I love this International Market and everything I have tried has exceeded expectations. The Blintzes w/meat, or the sweet feta cheese are amazing. The chicken cutlets, BBQ ribs, Dolmades, Greek Salad, Seaweek Salad, Radish and Cucumber Salad and the Tabbouleh is the best I have ever had. The Deli does not diss appoint. Most parishable food items have no expiration date !! They sale packaged fish and sausages with no expiration date and that looks fishy. So as all candy items either are expired or about to expire. Overpriced and Super expensive. Too much money for expired groceries. I have mentioned the staff twice to mark the expiration date and I've lost the battle. I really love the deli section with all the various salads Plus hot food. There is always a line at this area and I feel like I never can have the time to taste the salads that I want. This store has so many different foods if you just have the time to look up and down the aisles. I've never seen so many different types of sausages in my life. The bad thing about this place is that customer service is crappy. That could be because of the language barrier. I'm not sure. FINALLY! The sweet girl manager returned and the store came back to life. The store is clean and homey. The selections are better than they used to be before, the products are even better, and the best part is NO MORE expired products! The staff is knowledgable and easy to find/communicate with. They know their stuff! Both, deli and bakery, sections are great. They even have the Valentine's day theme in the store right now, and this includes the cakes at the bakery. The last touch that this store needs is an aisle with imported liquor, it would be a great adventure to try. read more

I heard about this new Russian foods store from a couple of coworkers. Apparently, it's only been open for about 3 weeks. The deli meats section was what drew me. The Kalabosy (hunters' sausage) was my main object, but there were several other sausage items that tempted me. The store is large. It's located in the same expanded parking lot as the Sam's Club. ( There used to be a Big Lots in the building, I think.) Prices are generally good. (A few items were comparably priced like at Koreana Plaza International Market.) There are so many interesting food items! For example: the rose petal jellies, the giant ginger cookies big enough for several people to share, the large boneless hams shaped like a piglet (fully cooked...just brown in the oven and serve), and the chocolates/candies aisle! Not sure what kind of fish "sprats" are, but they seem to be very popular with their customers. One huge section of canned fish was stocked with an astounding variety of canned sprats. I noted that they have a lot of jarred tomatoes there. If someone wanted to buy tomatoes packed in glass jars rather than in cans, this would be a good place to find jarred tomatoes. There are three chest-sized freezers, each with a different stock of frozen hand-made raviolis: Beef & pork, chicken, and veal and pork.. We took home some of the veal & pork raviolis for dinner. They are delicious! The fillings are very lean. Even the cold leftovers tasted good the following day. The store is still a work in progress. There's a baked goods counter, a produce counter, and a deli meats section, currently. There's a whole wall on the left side of the store that is still being assembled. They stay open until 9PM on most days. read more

The selection of their foods is just endless, really like their variety. There is only one thing, I came across of a few expired foods.

So, I have been here a couple of times to visit their deli. I thought they would find me annoying because I had no idea what most of the food was. They were super nice and helpful, even though their faces didn't show it (but I have RBF so it didn't bother me!) The cooked fish items are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The bass was so flaky and light, the sturgeon was so full of flavor! It was super fun trying a little bit of a few dishes.......then I saw the bakery! OMG! Once again, super-helpful! I explained that I wanted to buy some treats that are solely Eastern European (I can get American treats anywhere) and they explained what they were! The worst Russian store I ever been to. I would love to rate it at zero because 1 star is too much. We've specifically drove to this store from the Bay Area. Spent over $400 only to find out at home: 1. Instead of Russian delicatessen Tongue salad as I asked I found cold cut salmon in the box for $33 !!! 2. Some food items are expired or very close to the expiration date! 3. Prices are higher than in Palo Alto Russian store- Samovar or Kalinka in San Jose My advice: don't go there or if you do make sure to check every single product from the cafe and expiration dates and keep in mind that you are overpaying. read more

I went back as I was next door and heard they were under new mgmt. I found the mustard I liked, checked the date and all were in range. I bought some jarred German Franks as well. Got home, the mustard was still mislabeled but not rotten this time. The franks were within range but one jar was filled with mold!
