I rarely write reviews but had to for this place. The manager, Tony, is fantastic. The transmission on my 2014 Highlander was going out. I called several places but no one could get me in for several days. Tony said he'd take a look right away. He spent time evaluating the problem and offered a few different options to fix it. He then spent time getting accurate quotes for each option. I compared one to the dealer and his offer was $2000 less. He fixed it in a reasonable amount of time and kept me up to date on the progress. So far its running great. Great work! read more

If you are an avid fan of the SL series that of Mercedes Benz, you already are aware of their conductor plate early failure that to this day Mercedes has yet taken ownership of this. Other than this the transmissions are bullet proof. I have owned several SLʻs and plan to alway have one in my garage. This time around I decided to have Pacific Coast transmission do the repairs. The owner has been in this business for I don't know how many 10ʻs of years now. What I want the readers of this review to know is that the quality of work, attention to detail, critical in transmission repair, will not disappoint. I'm one of the worst types of customer a shop wants to deal with because of how critical I am when it comes to my personal vehicles. Many would consider this a behaviour flaw in which I have to agree. You need to know this now because today I only have the highest respect for this shop's abilities and knowledge. I witnessed a strict and proficient way of mapping the right direction to go as they went through the diagnostic procedures. And the same when doing the physical repairs. This is the shop everyone is always looking at. If you are reading this now you can't find a better shop than this one. I was a little concerned about leaving my truck at any maintenance shop. Pacific coast transmission & automotive repair specialist's convinced me after talking with them they could fix my truck. Andy,Tony and I had an intelligent conversation about my truck issues. They explained step by step the procedure they would perform on my truck, it was a perfect plan and I agreed; 1. transmission slipped on gear shifting 2. high voltage and other issue with the truck. The time I spent in the shop, I noticed it was in order and clean. The manpower was polite and knowledgeable. Andy and Tony are always in contact with their customers about the maintenance performed on their vehicles. I drive a 2015 BMW, had been experiencing suspension issues for sometime. The rear of my car wouldn't rise to normal driving levels. I took it to BMW service and they recommended a complete change of all suspension parts and their invoice was nearly $3000. I drove down to Pacific Coast Transmissions, spoke to a gentleman named Andy who helped me. They inspected my vehicle and the diagnosis was not a complete replacement of all parts but my two air springs, which apparently was leaking air. I took my car in with a broken torque converter. They were able to get right on it. After opening the trans it had worn clutches, and we decided to do an overhaul. Price came in under the maximum they quoted, and the job was done in the time frame they gave me. Trans works great now, and very happy with the customer service. I highly recommend them. read more

Suddenly developed a problem with my transmission took the vehicle to a different place they tried selling me a new transmission saying it had a crack in the housing. Found Pacific Coast transmissions took my vehicle to them they looked at it found the leak and took care of it in a timely manner dismissing the other shops work and starting over and researching the problem and found it I did not have to have a new transmission which would've been very costly instead they took care of the leak and did the repairs for around $200 Anyone looking for a reputable place to have their car repaired I would highly recommend taking it to the shop because of the honesty and the workmanship read more

This is the best place. Our service center in Torrance (on Carson) who does our Prius maintenance referred us here when because we started having an issue with the transmission popping out of gear while backing up! I was working so my mother had to go in by herself, and get the diagnosis and Andy treated my mom like the queen she is. He tested the car and after several minutes of testing, he pulled the mask( I had been storing them on the gear shift, and joila like magic everything worked perfectly again. DON'T PUT YOUR COVID-19 MASK ON THE GEAR SHIFT-YOUR CAR WILL NOT OPERATE PROPERLY! Anyway, he just got out of the car, and said farewell, no charge, and take care! A couple months ago I had my Tahoe towed to Pacific Coast Transmissions. I choose to not deal with the local dealership any longer due to their quality of work and high prices. Andy and Tony were so understanding of my circumstances and quickly repaired my transmission. Upon pick up, I asked if they knew of a shop that could repair my other Chevy truck I own, that had a few very costly repairs I had been prolonging, including the a/c that was inoperable. I could not believe when they told me that they could do the repairs since their sign says "Transmissions". Less than 1 full work day (including them procuring the parts) my truck was ready for pick up! I had researched of the projected cost, and they came much lower than the estimated costs. They have earned the upmost respect and they are as honest as they come. It was such a blessing finding them. I now feel safe knowing that any future repairs that my vehicles are safe in their hands and that they do not take advantage of you. Thank you Andy and Tony for helping me out so much. This wanna be transmission shop has gone to shit ever since Johnny left, andy doesn't know crap about transmissions. I had a bench built 4L70e transmission rebuilt 4 times and still the same result, blows through 3, 4 clutches. Customer service is below the bottom. Andy said my transmission was a stage 2 built transmission good for 750hp. Come to find out you can't make 750hp with a transmission with stock components. Just an FYI this is not a shop you'd want to spend your hard earned money at. Yes, I picked one star because it wouldn't let me post this, but no stars work here! read more

I had my car towed 225+ miles to Johnny's shop Pacific Coast Transmissions / Xtreme Performance Transmissions because I know he does the best work. In the past, I had gone through several "built" 4L60E transmissions (they seem to melt like butter with my car's power/traction). Johnny built my last one ages ago and it truly was a tank. He quoted me a price for repair of my transmission and a few other items and I felt the price was fair. When dealing with some repair people sometimes you get the feeling that they are taking advantage of you, I definitely didn't get that with him. Pros: Johnny is a nice guy. Cons: Shoddy workmanship, completely slammed with too much work-takes away from his concentration, doesn't call you back, uses deception to cover his tail when he's falling behind, shop is a complete mess, pricing isn't even competitive. Johnny is not an honest guy. You're dealing with a guy that's so busy, he has to lie to you, just to cover his butt! He's inundated with vehicles that he's not able to address, or finish. Not cool. Not cool at all. If the shop was clean and clear at one point, it's come a long way from that, and is not the case now. There's parts all over the place... the shop is a complete cluster f*ck. Here's the reason for the 1 star (there should be a choice for a negative rating). They installed an overdrive transmission in my 1977 Chevy K20 at the end of last year. It was a conversion from the factory 3 speed. When I got it back the truck vibrated really badly on the freeway. The reason being; the rear driveshaft, which had to be shortened, was installed backwards, and the wrong universal joints were used. AND, the front driveshaft, which had to be lengthened, was not put back together correctly. All the slop at the slip yokes were really bad. My truck is a factory AWD, so the front wheels are always driven, ergo the bad vibration at hwy speed. I brought the truck back for them correct these issues back in 1/07. of 2013, I picked up the truck on 3/21. The whole f*cking time the truck was there, it was parked. Johnny told me that it was being worked on since the day after I dropped it off. After about the 5th time he told me that he would have it finished, I finally went and looked at the truck myself. NOTHING WAS DONE! He removed the front drive shaft and that was it. As of writing this, the driveshaft is sitting in the back of the truck. I took the truck home as it was; the front driveshaft not installed, and the rear driveshaft still installed backwards. Johnny apologized for all of the "inconvenience", and stated this: "I just don't know what to tell anybody, anymore". Wow, buddy, how about telling them the truth that you're too busy to get the vehicle back to the customer on time? Feel free to try this shop out, but you're lining up for a crap shoot on service and honesty. read more

The 4L60E finally bit the dust at 242,000 miles. Instead of repairing/rebuilding/upgrading parts for the 4L60E, I upgraded to pay a little more and have PCT install their performance rebuilt 4L80E. More likely and overkill for my needs but worth it in the long run. Johnny took care of the PCM programming to accommodate for the 4L80E. The install took about 2-3 days. The transmission temperature gauge was reading higher than usual after the install and Johnny gladly addressed the issue ASAP and fixed it. Johnny has integrity and stands behind his work. Good honest service. Check engine light came on. PC transmissions was recommended by my normal mechanic. I was fortunate it was only a speed sensor. I will say that PCT/Johnny is a very honest and reasonable shop/person. I have never been to his shop so I cannot comment on the facility, however, I have shipped him a number of valve bodies to rework and the parts are turned around very quickly and packaging is very good. Every valve body has worked well when installed. I can also say that PCT is very good about honoring their work./warranty and if problems do come up they are very fair about resolving them. There may be some isolated issues others had, also transmission work at times can be very tricky, so if you have issue, suggest you follow up with Johnny and I would be surprised if PCT did not work out some sort of reasonable resolution. With smaller shops it is hard to keep everything running as a well oiled machine, but also realize with larger shops also come problems. read more

I remember when I had my transmission built by Johnny about 2 years ago that it took a while, and we missed a couple deadlines on it. The price was very fair however, compared to some other builders, and the parts still seem to be of high quality. I had a GM TH400 built for my racecar. I am writing this review because the transmission is still going very strong. The car recently ran a 9.20 in the quarter mile, and has dynoed over 750hp to the wheels through this transmission. Needless to say, I am happy that the transmission is doing so well. I would recommend Johnny. read more

I was given my options and price ranges. Unfortunately, my transmission needed to be rebuilt after 174k miles. I am happy to say it was done properly, professionally and in a timely manner. Excellent shop ! I took my 1998 Nissan Maxima here after a ridiculous amount of confusion at a auto repair shop across town. The prior shop had mis-diagnosed my transmission failure, thought it was the clutch and once they tore it down realized oops they were wrong and then quoted me a really high number to fix it. At this point I called Johnny and explained the scenario. He was very calm, professional and factual. He arranged to have my car picked up from the other auto repair shop and repaired my transmission for almost 500.00 less than the other shop quoted. It is an old car with a lot of miles but it feels and sounds brand new now. I could not be happier. He made it convient, affordable and excellent quality. PCT and Johnny Rock! He quickly sent me an 09G valve body that was packed well and very clean. I put it in and had some problems and Johnny took my calls at every turn. He was willing to do most anything to help sent me some parts that weren't even the problem at no cost to me. Turns out it was a frayed wire that connects to the pressure monitors he sent me. I went to Pacific Coast Transmissions and spoke with Johnny after seeing an ad on Craigslist for "Performance Transmission Rebuild $750". My cars transmission is a common item, a Ford AOD automatic transmission. I got the usual upsell and was told $1000 to rebuild the transmission with performance clutches, bands, and an upgraded torque converter..... this was the price if I brought him the transmission, meaning this price did not include removing and re-installing the transmission in the car. I put it off for a few months and when I went back the price had risen to $1175, but I went ahead anyway and had a local shop remove the transmission from my car and deliver it to Pacific Coast Transmissions for a "Performance Rebuild". When I got the transmission back and had it re-installed in the car it behaved EXACTLY the same way it did before it was removed (poor shifts, unresponsive to varying load or throttle position, always in the wrong gear), almost like nothing had been done. I took it back to Johnny's shop twice, and one time I left it there the whole day so he could check it and make adjustments....... no difference. Now 1200 miles later its still behaving the same way, but its noisier and leaking oil. I took the car to a reputable Transmission shop in Gardena and had them check it out. I told them about the problems, and I also mentioned that the trans seemed weak and probably could not withstand any kind of spirited driving or hard launches from a standstill. Well, the mechanic took it for a short drive and proved me right. At 3/4 throttle all the clutches and bearings self destructed. They took the transmission apart and did not find a single upgraded or performance part inside. $1175 to Johnny and $300 to the shop that removed/re-installed the trans, $1475 gone up in smoke or down the drain, or whatever! This shop sometimes sells rebuilt valve bodies on ebay. I bought rebuilt valve body, part was defective as it was not adjusted properly and gave hard shifting on transmission when cold... Bought off ebay, owner of shop waited to send part till i could not file complaint on ebay or paypal. Numerous calls to owner Johhny, every time i was informed that he would send me another part and swap out the defective part. Never sent any part or gave any tracking information. They never sent a part to swap out. So now i have a car that shifts worse than before and no help from this shop. Got dealership confirmation the part was bad and Item was stated to have a 12 month unlimited mile warranty, this rebuilder does not honor their warranty and will give you a run around till you give up trying, Avoid at all costs! read more
