YAY! I have babied my car since it's birth, taking it to the dealer. Past the 10-year mark, it was high time for me to find a new maintenance home. Well, "limp mode" rushed that process, and I Googled something close to have my car towed. Amen for God's grace and favor, that The Toy Shop ended up being a Godsend. I spoke with Rene on the phone, and trusted that he would know what he was doing with a blind tow. AAA came and got it, and delivered it while Rene ordered the parts: an alternator. It was a Saturday, so I knew they closed at 1pm, and I thought I wouldn't get my car back until Monday. Well, lo and behold, Rene called near 4pm to tell me to come get it. Great Service! I was looking for a mechanic shop around Torrance and this place has to be the best one in terms of service and price. The Toy Shop is located on Sepulveda Blvd and Western Ave (it is hidden behind Jiffy Lube). I got a quote from various mechanic shops around Torrance and this place charged the least and has overall 5 stars on Yelp. I just needed my brake rotors and pads replaced. I bought the parts myself and needed a mechanic swap it out. Since I bought my own parts, I get no warranty. He finished in couple hours since I dropped my car off and the brakes work really well. Highly recommend doing business here. i think you can save $30 by buying gift certificate through Yelp. I didn't buy the gift certificate because he probably does a good job and he did. I used to go to the toy shop exclusively because their work was amazing and the customer service and honesty and work was top notch. I also used to refer everyone I know to this business, that is until my last experience. About 2 months ago, I made an appointment to have my brakes changed on my truck. I purchased all the parts and brought them in to have them installed. When I made my appointment, I explained to Rene that I was bringing all the parts for the brake change and that ai had a large, lifted 4 wheel drive truck with very large tires and he gave me a price to do the work which included a cost for rotating the tires. When I arrived and we talked about the work to be done, Rene (the same guy I talked to about the work originally), told me that the tire rotation was going to be $20 more than expected due to the large size of my tires. That in itself was not a huge deal but, it was a bit annoying given the fact that I explained in detail the size of my tires when we spoke on the phone. Things got worse as the day went on. My appointment that day was at 9:00AM, and was told that my truck would be done by approximately 2:00PM. Later that day I called at 1:00PM, 2:00PM, and 4::30PM, during which in all 3 cases, I was told that the truck work was not completed yet. During the 4:30PM call I very politely asked Rene if I should come in by 5:00PM since I knew they closed at 5:00PM and Rene gave men a sort of annoyed response telling me that I could come in if I wanted, and that they would stay there at the shop until my truck was finished. I'm sure then guys at the shop had a long day but I was a bit taken back by his tone. I arrived at the shop at around 5:00PM and patiently waited in the waiting room. I'm not quite sure if any of the workers (including Rene), knew I was there waiting, and the reason I say that is I overheard a very loud conversation between the mechanic that was working on my truck and Rene, and it went something like this: The mechanic asked Rene how much they were charging me for this brake job and tire rotation and when Rene told the mechanic what they were charging for the work, , the mechanic said something to the affect of " Damn, that's some B.S.....I'm going to charge this guy $500 based on the size of these wheels". This is ridiculous." You could imagine how I felt after hearing this while sitting in the waiting room. I was quite steamed, and as they were finishing up the work, (now almost 6:00PM), I was planning on saying something to the mechanic, and Rene about their less than substandard behavior but, decided, it would be easier to just take my future business elsewhere. That in my view would hurt more, along with the word of mouth that I would be sharing with the many people that I have referred to the Toy Shop and that have still continued to patronize up to this point. The part that was the most disturbing for me about witnessing this indiscretion is that it left me feeling like I had done something wrong as the customer. Like I had deceived the shop and mechanic into getting a better deal on the work they were doing for me than I had deserved. That was the absolute worst part for me but, to be 150% honest, this experience also broke my heart and faith in what I felt used to be a very high quality, high integrity and honest local business. In the past, I would often tell people looking for an auto shop that you won't find a better auto shop than the Toy Shop. Based on this last experience, I'm definitely not feeling that same way. To be fair, the work that the shop did on my truck was good and don't have a complaint about the work, rather, the way they treated me as a customer. At any rate, I thought it necessary for the owner of Toy Shop which may or may not know this is going on to be aware of how his business is being run when he is, or is not there. read more

Overall, I think I got pretty good service on my new brakes and they ride well so far but it wasn't clear to me the additional cost of $100 for the brake fluid flush required to install the new caliper, that was unexpectedly needed during the replacement. It would have been nice to receive the updated estimate in print or email form to avoid verbal miscues. They did replace the tail light free of charge due to the unexpected caliper issue, which was very nice. I'd recommend using them but make sure to get updated estimates for each step to avoid any confusion. read more

I honestly don't know crap about cars and I was always worried of going anywhere and getting overpriced but my buddy recommended this place to me and I don't regret it. I needed my valve cover gasket replaced and they made sure everything was was set and even kept my car a bit longer to be sure the silicone dried completely! I honestly didn't mind them holding my car longer because hey rather be safe than sorry to avoid any car problems. I moved to South Bay about 4 years ago and just recently found the Toy Shop. I brought my 2012 Civic Si and my wife's 2017 Lexus NX in for oil changes and routine checkups and have had nothing but the best experience. Jeremiah and his team are excellent at what they do in providing quick service at great prices. I love that they email easy to understand, comprehensive diagnostic reports after bringing the car in, in case I forgot when I brought the car in for the last oil change or need to address any mechanical issues. Also, their text and email updates about upcoming appointments not only helps as a friendly reminder but shows how organized they are with their schedule. Appointments are required but well worth it. Most importantly, I feel that they are honest in all aspects of their business which is a rarity in itself with these types of businesses. I have a 2021 Tacoma (TRD OFF ROAD) and it was making a very annoying squeaky sound from the rear. I took it into the toy shop not sure what to expect, but came out very happy! I saw Jeremiah this morning and had him check out my Scion XA for some weird rattling noises I've been hearing lately when I drive over bumps or potholes (so, basically, anywhere I drive in LA). These guys are amazing! They helped me install an auxiliary battery system and refrigerator for an overlanding trip. I literally showed up at 1p with 5 boxes of stuff from the internet and rolled away at 4:30 with a fully working system. They reverse engineered it, ran the cabling and were super friendly.
