Soup and salad with two roll maki lunch
Rose K.

Stopped in for lunch after an appointment in the area. Had the two sushi roll maki lunch specials. Reasonable price. Peter our server was nice. He checked on us twice. The miso soup was good for a drizzly Friday afternoon. The salad was the typical ginger dressing and tasty. The sushi was very good. The restaurant has an outside door and a door into the strip mall area across from stone oven. It is a simply decorated place. Recommend for a quick tasty sushi lunch.

Bento C, Chicken/vegetable Soba noodle lunch

I came here for lunch while the Cleve. Hts location is being renovated. I immediately noticed the menu is different and abridged. I asked the waitress about it and she claims it's a totally "different company", "different owner". Not sure if that is true or whether it was just a misunderstanding. Regardless, I had the Sashimi Bento box. Everything was excellent. It did not have my favorite though...smoked tuna. The Soba noodles I ordered for my daughter was OK, cooked fresh--you could tell--but had the predominant flavor of asian 5 spice which was kind of odd. I added some soysauce to it and my daughter loved it. Overall, a nice place although I miss the other menu items of Cleveland Hts Pacific East.

Although the restaurant is small, the food is fresh and delicious and the staff is wonderful! Everyone was extremely attentive and friendly, they even offered sushi recommendations. They have a variety of rolls that they make fresh and all of the ingredients were great, but could have had a more expansive menu. Definitely a great lunch spot, we will be back!

Bomb roll & Hamachi to-go

I'm from Los Angeles and pride myself on having a good taste for fresh fish. I was told to try this chain and have only visited the Chagrin location but was immediately hooked! Fish was fresh and rolls were YUM! The nigiri was sort of hit and miss, but I understand this is not a coastal city and that means they don't have the luxuries a city in CA might have. I ordered the Bomb roll several times and it never failed. The Empire roll is also amazing if you like spicy tuna (also somewhat inconsistent w freshness but overall really GOOD!) I don't know why the reviews are so low. On one occasion I went with a group of coworkers, the service was fairly slow, but it looked like there was only one server. We were very understanding and still very pleased with the experience. Times are tough right now and this is a business that deserves some appreciation.

We travel all over the country and eat sushi frequently (especially on the west coast) so I have become a bit of a sushi snob--sorry, not sorry! I have had amazing sushi in Cleveland frequently. We ordered 4 rolls and the basic Philadelphia was my favorite. The fantastic tempura roll would have been good without the tablespoon of "special" sauce on top. We chose eel as our fish. --the sauce was sweet and would be good if drizzled. Reminded me of a dollop of sour cream on a potato! The empire roll was OK, it also had too much sauce though and felt like something was missing from the filling for flavor combo. The bomb roll was not bomb. The cucumber was incredibly over powering, this would have been delicious in a traditional wrap. Oh and the calamari was completely over cooked ‍ The service was good, she was very nice. Unfortunately for a $75 dinner, we won't be back.

Sashimi pieces have gotten soooooo much smaller.

This place is just SSSSOOOOO bad nowadays. Based off of the texture of the sashimi escalor, it has clearly been frozen and thawed and frozen again. Maybe then blanched also? So mushy, I immediately gagged it out. I keep saying to not go. Maybe my family will finally listen to me. And even worse, how are they gunna fix this? Offer a credit..? So I can eat more mushy fish? NO THANK YOU.

I love the food and service here! The waiters were very nice towards the customers. They provide great service and I had to leave them a great tip. My favorite food was definitely the crazy tuna roll. It was so fresh and I would definitely recommend others to try it. Overall, I'm satisfied and would definitely come back.

Takeout. Philadelphia and spicy tuna roll

I thought this pacific east would be better than the one on Coventry in Cleveland Heights. Sadly, they are both pretty bad. The taste of the sushi is probably one of the worst I've had. Something just always tastes off, no matter what roll I get. They also use way more rice in their rolls than any other sushi place I've ever been to. It's the closest sushi spot to me though, so whenever I crave sushi I'll still cave because of the convenience of location. I pretty much always regret it though.

I should have known when, while on the phone placing our order, I asked if she would include a Takeout Menu to our bag & she said they don't offer that. She suggested I can always look at the online menu.....you know, the online menu with no prices. The seafood entrees clearly state on the menu that they come with soup, salad, vegetables & rice. There were no salads in our bag. Our teriyaki shrimp was in a sauce the consistency of water. We were told pickup in 25 minutes but it was not ready until 50 minutes after our call & there were only 4 occupied booths. We ordered shumai, shrimp teriyaki & shrimp tempura. It came to $56. For an appetizer we tried the hamachi nigiri, which did not disappoint. For entrees we had shoyu ramen and chicken tempura curry. The broth of the ramen was authentic and warmed our bellies. The curry (I ordered medium spicy) was delicious and mouth watering. While they do not serve alcohol, you are welcome to BYOB, which I prefer since restaurants don't always offer the type of alcohol I like and it takes me forever to decide! The Cab that we brought paired nicely with our meal. If you get there before 6 pm and want alcohol, Miles Market is next door. Also the Shell gas station sells beer and wine. The restaurant is family owned and operated. Very knowledgeable and if you're like us and know your Japanese food, they have a Japanese menu! We will definitely be back to sample some of their other dishes!

Very nice. Service is swift and helpful. We had young Leo and he most attentive, regardless of our very slow ordering was... it is a lot to take in... they have a full menu with a la carte, an All You Can Eat menu, a hot pot menu and a drink menu. I also found the paper ordering system a bit inconvenient, and using tablets like other restaurants might make the process more efficient.

Where else can you get all-you-can-eat sashimi, sushi rolls, hibachi, and other appetizers for under 30 bucks? I went here for dinner, and for $28.99, I got a whole lot of sashimi, sushi rolls, hibachi scallops, shumai, strawberry ice cream, etc. Everything was delicious. The sashimi tasted great, and the sushi rolls were filling, though thankfully, Kintaro doesn't go too heavy on the rice. I thought the hibachi scallops were better than a lot of non-AYCE hibachi restaurants. They were tender and flavorful, and if I wasn't absolutely stuffed from the sashimi and sushi, I would have gotten another order of scallops. Like always, the service was great, and the staff was friendly. Our server frequently checked up on us and refilled our waters. Pretty amazing since it had been less than a week. Most of the menu was missing, our waiter seemed clueless, nice but clueless. I've never been to a hotpot that didn't have quail eggs all day. All the grill meat came out frozen, the cuts were thin and bad. The green peppers tasted like the blade that cut them, dry and metallic. I don't know that was way too wild a swing in quality we won't be back. We can't win with hotpot in Ohio it seems, for how much hotpot is in the US, I expect better than this. Kpot is still the worst but this last time at Kintaro is up there. Guess I'm looking for another hotpot place. It was clean and organized, the floor is in bad shape in the dining area but other than that it didn't feel dirty or unkempt.

If you're in the mood for something more classic, their bento boxes and combo deals are a solid value. The vibe is casual and easy--perfect for takeout, but there's dine-in seating too. Bonus: they even have a Japanese claw machine inside, which adds a fun touch. But this place gets great reviews, I went in there hungry, and I couldn't bring myself to finish my food. I got the lo mein, the pineapple chicken, and the coconut shrimp. The portion sizes were roughly comparable to Panda Express, or maybe a bit smaller. The prices were roughly comparable as well, maybe a bit smaller there too. The noodles were overcooked, the chicken had a different texture than any chicken I'd ever had before (not necessarily bad, but definitely different), and the coconut shrimp, which I was most excited about, was just bad. I probably ate the most of the chicken, but I only ate about a third of the food on my plate. Maybe I hit them on a bad night.
