He has built three different types of decks on my current property and all of them are of top quality and built to last. The first deck Pete built for me was to replace a cedar deck attached to my home. He used Brazilian Hardwood, or IPE, because of its durability and low maintenance qualities. The picture is current of a deck that was built 14 years ago. The second deck he built was around my Koi pond and we chose Trex decking to go over existing structure. This deck is 13 years old and as attractive as the day it was built. The third deck he built was a few months ago. The deck it replaced was cedar and I wanted to replicate what was there because it lasted so well. Pete used pressure treated beams stringers. Any cuts in the wood was painted with a protective treatment that is necessary when such wood is cut and the raw wood is exposed. The cedar boards were stained on all sides prior to being laid into place. I expect this deck to last for thirty years. Pete is also excellent with fence replacement. My pressure treated wood deck was replaced with a metal fence over 14 years ago and still looks new. No problems with posts or material to date. Lastly, Pete built a retaining wall at the edge of my property. It was built to be maintained and corrected, should the ground shift and require adjustments. The crew at Legacy Decks and fence are very easy to deal with and Pete ensures that all work is up to his standards. I can't speak highly enough about the quality of the work. And the test of time has proven the durability to me.

The craftsmanship was corrected, the cleanup concerns were taken seriously, and I appreciated their willingness to own the missteps and follow through quickly. Not every project goes perfectly, but how a company responds makes all the difference--and in this case, they really stepped up. The price was very reasonable for the originally planned work, but in the end it turned out to be a great value for everything they did to get it perfect for us. Jesus is extremely nice and approachable, and he was excellent with communication and check-ins. As soon as they finished the backyard landscaping job today, I signed another contract for them to do our fencing, and we're planning on having them back to improve our sprinkler system next Spring.

They even pulled weeds from plants and pots around the yard. Way above and beyond what I expected. The one draw back is how long it takes them to cash checks. Wrote them a check for the clean up June 8th, didn't clear until July 11th. They still are holding on to my check from June 28th, it's July 20th now. Sinks, old carpet, toilets, couches, construction debris, work orders and invoices with their clients personal information as well as internal accounts receivable reports (also with personal client information), and bank teller receipts were found in this debris. We contacted Noah Mrowczynski on multiple occasions to clean up this mess without involving the police or other authorities. He failed to clean up the entire mess, only agreeing to remove one truck load, when it's obvious there have been multiple trips made out to our property by his company. He stated to us multiple times that this is not his problem and blaming it on subcontractors. Hard to believe sub contractors would have your personal business records. He let us know he was doing us a favor by even sending out one of his trucks to remove his mess. I never asked for him to trespass on my land and to perform illegal activities in the first place. We have filed reports with Clackamas County Sheriffs, DEQ, and Oregon Contractors Construction Board. I can only hope this helps deter him from continuing his illegal activity, dumping on anyone else's land, trespassing and violating his customers rights. Please be wary of this company and his junk removal company operating under Cascade Junk Removal.

It took Frank and Manny 4 days to complete the project as estimated, and they did and OUTSTANDING job! His…read moreestimate was affordable and we felt assured when he came out to see the project as he commented on what was required according to code (apparently our dilapidated decks were not compliant and none of the other contractors we consulted with made mention of this). Bruce confirmed his availability for install beginning in late October at that time and we coordinated via email as that time approached. Bruce and his team do very great, thorough work. They were all very friendly and trustworthy. We are very pleased with our deck replacements and the dry rot pieces they both identified and replaced on our front support columns. Bruce also hung up our new address numbers for us at the conclusion of the project, which was a big help for us! We did not receive an invoice until the very end of the project (after 3 of 4 payments were made), but did receive one nonetheless. Despite this, we don't have any concern about Bruce and his team coming out to repair anything that should arise. Though, we don't expect that to happen based on the quality work they provided. Their focus is on their craft, not the administrative pieces of the business. I highly recommend Shaffer & Sons and will keep Bruce's contact information should we, our friends, or family members require any work completed in the future.

And also for averaging with the little good: The foreman who worked my project, Fernando, was the only person I spoke to, beginning to end who seemed interested in doing anything other than making a sale (front end) and doing as little as possible (Warranty Team). Fernando was invested in keeping me updated, left a clean worksite each night, was kind to his team. He was a pleasure to work with. The rest of the company seems like a nepo organization, starting with the least knowledgeable and trustworthy sales team I've encountered in years. However, I was in need of a security fence ASAP and ultimately was sold because of the timeline, the quality of the fence itself, 0% APR for financing, and the "warranty." Unfortunately, I found out within one day of the project completion that the Warranty Team would be the worst at Cool Cat yet. Negative Stars: One of the locks was put on backward (meaning someone could unscrew the mounting from the outside). Further, because of the direction and function of the lock, it remained locked on the outside when the inside lock was disengaged. This is a significant fire and safety risk if the only way out of my yard is through that gate or somehow over the 6 foot fence. I contacted Dan the morning after the project closed to apprise them (7/30) and I didn't get a response until 8/3. I got the Warranty Manager's number (Joe) and communicated with him. Artur and some other unfriendly person came on 8/7 to fix. I checked in multiple times and when they were finished, I asked about the multiple drilled holes that were now exposed and tape instead of a cap on one of the rails. He said he didn't have anything to fix it with him today and I asked him to come back and fix it. That was one month ago. My $27k fence has eye sores all over the gate and now with the rain setting in, the exposed metal is showing the beginnings of rust. And I have not heard back from anyone. WORST COMPANY EVER. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
